Lost dog by Western Brownline

Just saw this posted in a Facebook group and re-posting here in hopes that the dog is found and returned to its owner.
The dogs name is "Zeus" and it's described as a "very calm pitbull"
Not sure if it's possible to upload a photo here, but the dog is a golden tan color and has a white blaze on its chest

Contact 773.870.5798 with any info

  • Could it be the tan pit bull found near Bryn Mawr and Western(see "Pitbull Found"posted in Budlong Woods )?

  • JM

Thank you! I checked it out and it sounded like the same dog. I forwarded the info in the post to the friend of the owner, and they are passing it along. I do <3 EveryBlock for these kinds of things :)

Absurd and Humiliating Dress Code Policy at Chappell Elementary School

If you are considering sending your child to Chappell Elementary please be aware that the Principal has a ZERO Tolerance Policy for not wearing a clean white shirt. If you are considering sending your child to Chappell Elementary please be aware that the Principal has a ZERO Tolerance Policy for not wearing a clean white shirt. Even if you have a note saying your washing machine is out of order and you send your child with a light gray or navy shirt - your child will be forced to change into a dirty, smelly shirt with writing in huge letters front and back - "LOANER". Even if your clothes are totally appropriate and you are in 1st grade. When I went to an LSC meeting to just bring this up - the Principal called 911 on me. That started to give me concerns and my suspicions were confirmed in May. My son is gone from the school so we can now speak up without fear of further retaliation. I am happy to meet with anyone personally to show all of the evidence I have. Please do not send your child to this school until the Principal is replaced. He is a threat to children and he has been manipulating the LSC. It is very difficult to even find out when the next LSC meeting is and how to contact anyone on the LSC or even get the minutes of the meetings. The Alderman and School Board have been contacted but due to the privacy of the children involved we all do not want this to have to go to court. Please help this school and the families that are really suffering from the fallout of his actions.

The best way to voice your concern is through Alderman O'Connor at ward40@cityofchicago.org. He is aware of the situation but says the more parents that can email and stand up against this absurd policy the easier it will be to remove him. There is no way to contact LSC members via school website or even find out dates of the meetings which are always during the day. Compare transparency of Waters Elementary to Chappell Elementary Website so you can see how hard he makes it for parents to complain about this.

  • So just to clarify - Sherri, you are confirming that Ald. O'Connor told you to rally people in his ward so that it would make the Principal easier to remove?

  • I personally don't think Alderman O'Connor would say that...

Shots fired 2:55 am!!!

We just heard 10-12 shots fired. Scared us to death and woke up our son. Trying to figure out where exactly they came from. Somewhere near Manor and Lawrence. Getting fed up with all of this stupid gang related stuff happening in the neighborhood. It's been so much worse this last year. What is going on?

  • Those gunshots on Saturday morning were real and terrifying. My building was hit. My understanding is that two factions within a gang are fighting and some alleged members live in a specific building. If you live along Sacramento, I am sure you know the building. I have been told by...

Those gunshots on Saturday morning were real and terrifying. My building was hit. My understanding is that two factions within a gang are fighting and some alleged members live in a specific building. If you live along Sacramento, I am sure you know the building. I have been told by police officers, after witnessing a shooting right in front of my building, that they know of the involved parties and where they live. I was told by Deb Mell that the building has been sold. Neighbors advised me that the new owner was around this weekend talking to the tenants about vacating, supposedly by the end of September. My main concern was that after I and my neighbors called 911 on Saturday morning, no police showed up. I am following up with both out CAPS officer and the alderman's office.

Is orange and white cat found in Lincoln Square yours?

I apologize for linking to a Facebook post (wish I had a still photo I could share), but there is an urgent need to find the owner of a cat who is close to being euthanized at Animal Care and Control. He was found near Lawrence, Western, and Lincoln. Please take a look and see if you recognize him or know of someone who is missing a similar-looking cat. Thanks!

My wife and I found a Nikon 3100 in a black camera bag (with additional contents) last Friday around Ravenswood and Foster intersection. Please reach out to me if you believe it's yours.

P.S. I'm going to ask several questions about the contents and photographs as Craigslist has only produced scam artists to date. I won't let go of the property easily.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF THE DOG BUT A PRETTY CLOSE MATCH. His ears and tail are a little longer.

Hi neighbors,

Sorry I have posted a couple of over times but no luck yet. There is a little tan/light brown male terrier (about 10 pds or so) who has been hanging out in the alley at 2600 W. Catalpa. He showed up there on Thursday night, is scared, extremely skittish and won't stay still long enough for me to get a picture of him to post. So far he looks to be in good shape but I'm worried he is going to get hit by a car or attacked by one of the many wild critters in the area.
He does have a collar, I am not sure about tags because he won't let anyone get close to him. I've been checking IL Lost Dog and craigslist, also asking around the neighborhood but nothing yet. He also won't come near anyone, with or without a dog. I've tried both approaches and I've also tried to lure him with treats like hot dogs.
I've been leaving out food and water for him and saw him this morning so at least I know he is getting the food. If you could spread the word or ask around, I would appreciate it. I only hope he wasn't abandoned. :(

  • I looked for him in that area (all the surrounding blocks and alleys) today, 8/21, to no avail. I hope he's safe. So worried for him!

  • I'm hopeful, Imtired, since it seems from the photo and description (also of his independence) that he may be a Cairn. Cairns are so capable that my imaginary one even has a pilot's license! :) My primary concern in addition to cars is that he may eat a poisoned rodent.

Small Condo Building Management Company Recommendations?

This group has steered me right before, so looking for more wisdom! Seeking a Condo/Property Management company that handles smaller buildings (6-12 units). Looking for strong knowledge of condo laws/governance, financial aspects/budgeting, solid vendors/bidding process, and most of all good communication with the owners & board. If you live in a condo building where there's a good management company, would appreciate the recommendation -- thanks for your help!

Before and after school care needed

We are in need of a child sitter for before and after school care for a 7 year old child. We would need someone to watch him before school and drop him off at school, then pick him up from school and watch him until one of us gets home. We're in north Lincoln square. This would only be necessary when I'm out of town for work. Please inquire if you're interested. Thank you.

We would also need a sitter on days that he's off from school when we work, or if he's sick and home from school.

He heard a hand saw start up and immediately went outside to confront the man. We are assuming that man was trying to steal the catalytic converter and/or other car parts.
The man came out from under the car and got into a black SUV on the passenger side and drove away.
My father could not provide a description of the man other than he was male, light complexion and was wearing dark clothing.
He described the SUV as a later model Explorer or Toyota Highlander with silver trim and bumpers, along with a spare on the back.
Keep an eye out.

  • Hi All, I had the catalytic converter stolen from my CRV on Francisco and Cullom. I got it replaced and then got a device called the cat clamp online. The Honda dealer installed it for me for $140.00. It was a couple months ago - so far so good.

Sherri, gangs generally rely more on crack cocaine than they do on Pot. Crack is highly addictive and very cheap, unlike pot. Besides, in places like Colorado where pot is now legal, illegal sales are still continuing since legal pot is taxed and much more expensive than from the streets. If Chicago made marijuana totally legal, it would benefit so much from the tax. One could hope it could provide for more police as well.

Sorry, that was off topic. But I don't know that the theft of the converters are gang related or not. Not all thefts are gang related.

What I am wondering is if certain types of cars are being targeted for catalytic converter theft, or is it any make of car?

Childcare in Ravenswood/Lincoln Square

Hello!
I recently moved back to the area and I'm desperately searching for full time child care for my three year old twins. I am open to all care options, but price point (twins!), is a concern. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Most daycares give a small discount for a second kid. We are at Ladybug and Friends and love it. I think there is supposed to be a good one in Swedish that is reasonable but I think the wait list is long. You could also post this to any of the local mom groups on Facebook to get other suggestions. Good luck!

  • We send our kids to Rainforest 2. It's not in the immediate area, but we love it. So unique and creative. Big open spaces, art shows, performances, wonderful caring teachers and healthy organic food.

Harassment at Damen and Lawrence.

Walking to the train going South on Damen on the East side if the street. Right after I passed through the crosswalk, a man at the bus stop yelled, "I HATE YOU!!!" Then he lunged at me and screamed, "I HATE YOUR UGLY QUEER A$S!!!"

I yelled that I'm calling the cops and he ran across Damen to get on the Lawrence bus going east.

A woman in her car rolled down her window and asked if I was ok. I continued to walk to the train.

He has blondish reddish hair, fair skin, and a mouth full of rotting teeth. Was about 6 feet tall.

If I had mace he would have really gotten it.

Beware. It was terrifying.

How much to pay part-time childcare providers?

Brought to you by your friends at The Ravenswood Community Council and Midwest Pesticide Action Center.

Also, invite some food trucks or engage the neighboring business so people can have food handy.
