Help with furniture restoration

Hi - I have created a gofundme.com account to ask for help restoring antique dining room furniture. You'll find more info here: http://www.gofundme.com/furniturerestoration. But the long and the short of it is that I would greatly appreciate your help as I try to restore my Grandma's dining furniture. It would be a lovely surprise to have my family over for the holidays this year and have the furniture just as they remember it from years ago! I'd really appreciate your help raising the $3,000 to restore beautiful furniture, support a local small business that focuses in furniture restoration, and continue to get benefit from wood resources that have already been used.

In addition to a year-end Annual Recital, LBP students have the opportunity to perform in two full-length, professional-style ballet performances each year, including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and an annual spring ballet, such as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet or Coppèlia. Quick note for you mom's and dad's, music lovers and just good ol' fashion neighbors;

Sad about summer coming to an end and all the fun (not too mention outdoor activities) that come with it and was wondering if anyone would be interested in starting some sort of discussion around a library themed evening event?

I realize beer will likely not be sold at the library (d@mn) but my Fall might be a lot cooler if I could slide into Winter knowing that there would be something community oriented to take my daughter too during the Winter (outside of Wiggle Worms, Swim Class, etc.).

1.) Has this ever been discussed? (Hosting something at the Library - )
2.) Who else feels the same?

Personally, the thought of not having one or two nights a week to "plan" for stuff in the face of bitter cold and dark skies would go a long way towards breaking "Chiberia".

(I apologize in advance if that's too many cold winter references, but hey, it's coming.)

Best!

The PD is doing helicopter patrols over Rogers Park nightly, in an attempt to reduce the gang violence. After the arson of a gang members vehicle, and then a street murder a few days later, there is fear of an escalating gang war. So, possibly it was quicker and more advantageous to divert a copter to the park to flush out the perpetrator? Good move, if so!

Police helicopters patrol just like squad cars do, and will get involved in car and foot chases when necessary. Sometimes the beat officer will see someone wanted for whatever reason, and will call for dogs and helicopters to help out when the guy takes off. Fairly common. A few years ago there was an incident in the Bucktown area, where a film crew was filming scenes for the TV show, Chicago Hope. During the filming, a junkie jumped into one of their vehicles containing expensive equipment. in an effort to steal it. The film crew chased the stolen truck, and eventually the CPD were called and became involved in chase. The guy was eventually caught after abandoning the truck, and following a lengthy foot chase. He was dodging in and out of alleys, gangways and vacant buildings, and with the help of the helicopters was found on a rooftop of a building at Maplewood and Division streets. Occasionally both worlds collide. This may have been one of those rare occurrences.

It is a police helicopter searching for someone. They are NOT filming. 45 minutes ago I spoke to a 311 operator who mistakenly said they were filming. Apartment burglary

My friend's second-floor apartment near Damen/Lawrence unfortunately was burglarized during the day yesterday. Her laptop and jewelry were stolen, as well as a backpack to haul the stuff in, apparently. Thankfully her cute little cats were unharmed. The doors were bolted when she came home and no windows were broken, so they're not sure yet how the thief got in but they think he must have had a key somehow, possibly from/as a previous tenant.

That uncomfortable theory might raise questions of security and safety for all us renters out there. It also underscores the importance of having renter's insurance.

I hope karma bites that guy right in the a**.

  • b in edgewater/andersonville interested resident and business owner

I wanted to address the issue of always making sure you have renters insurance. People tend to think the builidng they live in is totally secure and they " don't really own anything". Break ins are traumatic and the last thing you want to deal with is worrying about who pays for what. Get renters insurance. Barbara Janusek State Farm agency on Broadway and Bryn Mawr will get you coverage for less than $12.00 a month.

  • Agree with b, renters insurance also covers your personal property in your car if you have a break in. Your car insurance doesn't.

Anyone have a garage space for rent?

I just moved up to Lincoln Square, but my apartment only has street parking and my car is a plug-in hybrid (Chevy Volt) that I would like to be able to plug in at night. Comcast internet outage Lincoln Square...?

My internet has been balled up since last night around 3 AM, my line speed is all over the place, jumping from 0.1 MB/sec to the 50 MB/sec that I pay for and back again second-by-second. DNS seems FUBAR.The DOCSIS config file bound to my cable modem looks wrong, which has my cable modem saying "IPV6 ONLY" which doesn't really seem right either....

Comcast is acknowledging a problem on their Customer Account - Support page, I wonder how widespread it is.

How widespread is this COMCAST internet issue today ?

We've been out (or barely running) all day over here near Lawrence & Rockwell.

Comcast first said it had been going on since last night and would be on again a 2:30 pm ... and then that time came and went.

Part of me feels that things have changed in the last 2-3 years.

The thing I always heard about RCN was that they had anti-competitive habits, like signing deals with landlords where once they signed up one customer in the building, they had to stop providing competing services or something. Not sure how true that was, or if it's still true.

Recently I received a letter from a debt collector on behalf of the Chicago Tribune. The company claimed that I owed $32.25 and that I needed to pay them immediately--or I could call them to plead my case.

Naturally, I called them. They refused to produce evidence of the debt or explain where it came from --other than to direct me to Chicago Tribune.

So I called Chicago Tribune. They claimed that I had signed up for a Tribune trial from a door-to-door salesperson/kid asking for a donation for their education. They said that I had been receiving newspapers for months (I hadn't) and they had been sending me bills.

I have no idea what they were talking about. Neither does my wife. We'd never seen a door-to-door Tribune salesperson, much less signed up for a subscription. If the Trib had sent any bills, we probably assumed it was unsolicited junk mail.

The customer service rep eventually credited the account, but not before admitting that there were others like me calling in about their own mystery bills.

My suspicion is that this door-to-door "salesperson" put us on the list without consulting us. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Twice in my life I have signed up for subscription deals through salespeople at my door or on the street, and twice have indicated I want it to be non renewing, and have been assured it won't renew. (I only use it for coupons, and I have a bad habit of letting them pile up rather than using them, which then reminds me why I don't subscribe in the first place!) And both times, they have renewed, won't stop delivering the paper, they keep sending me bills, when I call I have to call multiple numbers to get it taken care of. Both times I've been sent to collections over it too, and have had to call to resolve it multiple times. It's a huge time waster and it makes me really angry.

We were on Wolcott Ave. The dog jumped and bit our dog on the face and wouldn't let go. The owner acted like this has happened more than once and our dog had a swollen mouth for a few days and now has scarring / scabbing. We were so upset that we tried to get away and didn't get the person's name/number. We had never seen them on our street/neighborhood before but if anyone seems them please be careful. The guy did say afterword that the dog was not friendly. We are not sure why he was even walking the dog in public. If you see them or know who they are we would love to get their information for our dog's sake.
