Oriole Question

Can anyone enlighten me as to what kind of construction they are doing on Oriole by Edison Park School? Also, why is it taking months to finish (besides the fact that they chose the worst time of year to do it)?

  • PattyM Concerned Citizen

Our daughter lives near there. The city started sewer repair and found the original pipes from the 20s so they decided to do a more extensive job.

  • our church has flooded ever since they did a "more extensive job" Good Luck

US Post Office Delivery Stinks

Our mail on isham street arrives after six most nights and some nights is not delivered. I understand its a difficult job but us mail get more people to do the job so we can get our mail in a timely manner

  • CWCEdisonPark Olympia Park

Great suggestion for those not receiving bills in the mail. Pay on-line or at least receive your bill notification on-line and pay by check. Save a few trees in the meantime. It works well for me.

  • We don't care what time we get our mail as I mentioned in the above comment. I'm a senior that doesn't sit in my window and wait for the mail, but if I wasn't getting my bills ( I pay most on line) I guess I would. With that said, I am truly grateful for our mailman and I do let him know verbally and with a little, "token" at Xmas.

Good Bye Edison /Norwood Park

The final build out is schedule for 2020 will put an estimated 1.1-1.5 million flights over the Northwest side per year. No one is getting sound insulation except for Ebinger School. The Alderman and Mayor could care less about the quality of life for the people living on the NW side. Nothing will beat the money O'hare makes for the City. Edison/ Norwood Park is a great area filled with great people. Thank for a wonderful three years .

  • Teresa Groat Resident of Old Norwood

My major complaint centered on the classroom size when my sons were attending Norwood Park. Old news since they've long graduated and are in community college, but I was wondering whether the average class size still approaches 40?

  • The noise doesn't bother me much. In fact you could consider me a contributor as I fly out if Ohare at least 30 flights a year. I've lived in EP for decades as have a lot of my friends and no one really complains about aircraft noise. The newer aircraft...

I've lived in EP for decades as have a lot of my friends and no one really complains about aircraft noise. The newer aircraft have quieter more fuel efficient engines which lowers polluting emissions.
What bugs me most about EP is the lousy Snow plowing, speeding motorists cutting thru the hood, inattentive Alderwoman (just as useless as the former Alderman) and the ridiculously expensive parking on Northwest Hwy.

Orthodontist Recommendations

Looking for a good, yet reasonable ortho.

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

It's a bit of a haul for you, but we love Dr. Andrianopoulos!! When my daughter's former orthodontist became ill half-way through braces, we switched to her based on numerous recommendations (including a neighbor who is a dentist); her price to finish the work was very reasonable. We also like her office staff. My daughter's braces have been off for four years, and people often tell her how beautiful and straight her teeth are (this always seems odd to me, but her teeth are beautiful!) http://www.yelp.com/biz/andrianopoulos-efi-dds-chicago

  • Dr. Steven Marshall, he's on Avondale (corner of Harlem, in the same bldg as Peryam and Kroll). He was great and significantly less expensive than most in the area. You see the orthodontist on every visit - as opposed to many practices where you see only the dental assistant. He spends ton of time with each patient and you can usually get appointments outside of school hours. Loved him.

Blue ribbons to support police in Norwood/Edison Park

I like this idea and will be taking a cue from the Southwest Side initiative. Sharing here if anyone else would like to comment or participate:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-mount-greenwood-police-ribbons-met-20141230-story.html

  • I googled DNA Mount Greenwood and the article came up. If you don't go through DNA, the article comes up under Chicago Tribune and you can't read it unless you subscribe as you discovered.

  • @grammarcop The tribune work around is...Copy the link and paste in google. Click on the tribune link in Google and you can read it.

No one is giving away blue ribbons. You can buy blue ribbon at a craft store or a blue tablecloth and cut it into strips.

Hawk Sighting.....

Keep an eye on your small dogs. I spotted a hawk on my neighbor's fence at Devon and Oriole. I have seen these things take a small dog and carry them off. It is a rare sighting in the area. Be on the lookout. It is black with a white neck and grey face.

  • Herecomestheman Character assassin.

Hawks aren't all that rare in the Chicago area.

  • ls

I see them often around Brooks Park and the area.

  • No at rare as you think. This summer there was a flock of three flying around our part of EP. We see them now and then. These are brown.

We watched out of our front windows as thr strange young man got out of his car & was questioned & searched. Then, his pick-up truck was also searched. He ended up in one of the police vehicles & a policeman drove the pick-up truck away. This was a very unsettling & weirdly unexpected experience where we live. We live across from Brooks Park, so for a moment, we wondered if he had a dog or something related to the park or somebody looking for one of our 3 adult children. We have lived here since 1979, & we never experienced this before.

Senior Living Recommendations?

My father (79yo) has dementia and is currently at home, being cared for by my mother (76yo). My sister, mother and I are starting to research senior living facilities in the area that also offer memory care as his condition is quickly worsening. Any feedback or personal experiences with these type of facilities would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • i agree with the others, norwood crossing is very good. we used it for a year and a half and had no issues. you may return there after a hospital visit which is nice. it has much to offer including programs to stay busy and keep up with current events, physical and speech therapy, music therapy. transportation to doctor appointments and dental visit. they made the best for a difficult situation for families.

  • Norwood Crossing's Memory Unit is excellent. Individual rooms, hotel like. Staff is wonderful and caring with many activities for the residents. Highly recommended if you can afford it. Expensive but worth very penny. My aunt was their until her passing.

All very different depending on if the person is social, active, reserved ect. Not an easy rode ahead of u. Good luck

We asked for the last appointment of the day so that we could have our privacy. Holy cow! You people have more compassion than ANYONE. Dr. Cheryl, thank you for your compassion to me and my husband. Dr. Sing, thank you for ALL you do for my dog and my cats. And Chris, thank you for being the best person in animal health care there is. I have known you for years. You are amazing. I don't care what ANYONE has said about Abell Animal Hospital on here. I have to say, they are the BEST. When my dog is dragging ME into a doctor's office to get a shot, I know I'm going to the right place. Thank you for your compassion and your love. You ALL made Steve's last hours so loving, not only for Steve but for us to. Thank you. We love you ALL so much.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

I agree that the staff at Abell is great.

  • Nick Neighborhood watch
