Among all of the issues we voice here, what is your #1 concern?

Mine is the increased amount of crime/break-ins.

  • Having a grocery store at Devon/Milwaukee is a convenience I miss. I support local business like Happy Foods but they can't compete with the breadth of offerings at a Jewel, etc.
Shop and Save...your public awaits you!!!

  • Thread was listed under Edison Park. Devon / Milwaukee is Norwood so I believe losing the Dominick's was probably a hit over there for convenience. As far as Edison Park goes I believe it's a very convenient location and Ebinger is an awesome elementary school. Plus it's nice to have 4 parks within walking distance to my crib

Avondale and Devon: NEED a stop light. Legal liability and hazard

Hello,
The area by the Alderwoman's Restaurant....Devon and Avondale in Edison Park is a real hazard for pedestrians as well as automobiles. We need a stop light there. It is a legal liability and an accident waiting to happen. Too many cars trying to criss cross and as a pedestrian it is quite a danger to cross the street there. I am not talking about this being a danger because of that construction on the corner. I am talking about ALL THE TIME. Please take care of this alderwoman if you read this. Thank you.

  • I recommend crossing at Olcott if you don't want to dodge the texters not paying attention

  • Erin23...O'Connnor's business is EXACTLY where it was suggested that there be an increased level of traffic control more conducive to foot and auto traffic...so yes this is about her and her business and a conflict of interest.

Thanks CPD, and whoever else provided security at Olympia Park

What a difference compared to prior EP Fest weekends. Thank you SO MUCH for being there and controlling the activity in Olympia Park and protecting the area. :)

  • There was violence at Olympia park last night. There was a neighborhood kid sucker punched and sent to the ER.

  • CWCEdisonPark Olympia Park

OMG - what time was that at? I hope the kid is OK. I thought they had it under control. It was better than previous years, but one person injured is one too many.

  • Yes, It was very noticeable on the heightened security at Olympia Park. Thank you EP Chamber of Commerce and CPD. The kids were cleared from the park every night by 10:30. Sunday night the police didn't even allow the kids to hang out there. Only damage heard about at Olympia park was the graffati on the building and trash/broken bottles etc. at the park. .

Answer from Alderman Mary O'Connor

An ordinance was passed by the City Council yesterday which further restricts the power of the City Council's Inspector General to investigate alleged wrong doing on the part of alderman. In this day and age with the City Council's history of sordid corruption, if anything the Inspector General's powers need to be expanded not diminished. For reasons unknown, our own 41st Ward Alderman Mary O'Connor voted for this ordinance. As our public representative I think Alderman O'Connor needs to explain to the people who elected her as to why she voted for this ordinance which will only serve to protect alderman accused of wrong doing.

Airplane noise

Is it naive to think that continuing to enter complaints into the 311 system specific to the airplane noise will make any difference? There are stretches of time that we get planes directly overhead every 90 seconds for an hour to an hour and a half straight.

Thank you

Thank you to a couple of very nice neighbors who recommended this site to me a couple of days ago. And those plastic bag holders were an awesome idea by the city for picking up the dog doo doo;) The ones @ Olympia Park When I get the chance I have a bunch of plastic bags to add to them. It was a great idea for helping to keep the park cleaner. Thank you. Good idea!!

Sincerely, Park dist. mom (the one that walks all the time.)

Overhill to become one-way southbound

Overhill ave will become one-way southbound from N/W Hwy to Owen in the near future to reduce traffic on Overhill.
If you'd ask me, it should be one-way from N/W Hwy to Touhy. Why is Edison Park free of one-way streets anyway? Cars constantly getting mirrors broken off because of two cars squeezing though.
Please don't say people are going to go faster if it was. Cars speed down here constantly at 40mph plus. And by the way, Get off the cell phone while driving!!!

Lunker/Natmart - So agree. Last night, during a youth baseball game, there was a minivan parked and blocking the sidewalk - for 2 hours. It's sad that I've given up on calling the cops. I actually don't blame the cops. From what I understand they are being dispersed to other areas that have more crime. Interesting, we've had more break-ins around Olympia park in the past year than we've had in the 10 plus years that I've lived here.

  • How many times walking and driving through EP do you see the police? Now go to other areas of the city and tell me how many you see. They go where they are assigned and everyone says we have no crime. When was the last time you saw or heard...

They go where they are assigned and everyone says we have no crime. When was the last time you saw or heard our alderwoman in the media demanding that we get the city services that we pay for in our taxes. Yes we have had a few playlots redone, but our parks still pale in comparison to others in the city. I want to feel safe sending my kids to the parks or letting them ride their bikes. Crime is higher in EP than it was in the past...and what is the one main factor that has changed....?????

With the new run way going in service next year and the noise getting worse, Are property values about to take a big hit? Even if you don't mind the noise a perspective buyer might feel different. The neighborhood is made up of City workers, that have no choice but to live here. What happens when good people like my neighbor start leaving ?
Starting to see a lot of moving vans and for sale signs in Park ridge. Is this the start of the decline of Edison / Norwood Park ?

  • Sure is quiet when they are not running.

  • CWCEdisonPark Olympia Park

I've been here for 10 years and it has increased, substantially, just this year. On Sundays, starting at 1pm, there is a plane every 2 minutes for 1.5 hours. Right now, it's about the same. It did not used to be this way. Maybe it doesn't bother some, but it bothers me. I hope the Alderman views these posts.. but guessing not.

Rude Neighborhood People with Dogs

I live on the corner of Oriole/Jarvis and I am fed up with the rude dog owners who walk their dog past my house and let them deposit feces on my lawn and on the sidewalk outside of my gate to my yard. The City of Chicago Dog Ordinance reads as follows:

7-12-420 Removal of excrement. No person shall appear with a pet upon the public ways or within public places or upon the property of another, absent that person's consent, without some means for the removal of excrement; nor shall any person fail to remove any excrement deposited by such pet. This section shall not apply to a blind person while walking his or her guide dog.
Any person found to have been in violation of this section shall be fined not less than $50.00 nor more than $500.00 for each offense.

I am tired of stepping in your dogs feces when I mow my lawn and fed up with stepping in it when I go outside my gate on the sidewalk. I plan on making sure that any person found violating this City of Chicago Law will be punished in accordance with the fines stated above. Don't say you haven't been warned.

I like that someone put makeshift containers around Olympia park that hold plastic bags. It's beyond me why people don't pickup after their dogs.

  • Nick Neighborhood watch

i noticed that too. It was a great idea who ever thought of that idea :) I'm going to try to start it around my area. It looks like a bleach or milk jug with a hole cut in the side and you stuff it with the plastic grocery bags, right? Great idea. I'm going to make some and maybe decorate it with drawings of dog paws and flowers!

Contractor / Handyman needed for drywall job

We are looking to enclose a loft space to create an additional bedroom on the 2nd floor of our home. There is already a closet in the space, so I think it would be a fairly small job, just putting up two walls and minor electrical work to move a ceiling fan. Afraid it's too small for a larger contractor, although after the bedroom is complete our next project is to completely finish the basement, so if they do a good job on the loft, could lead to the basement project. Flexible time frame... we are in Edison Park. Any recommendations?

Article from Taste of Park Ridge - 200 teens gather and attack a man

I know this is Park Ridge, but it seems to be the norm for any fest in the area. Every year during Edison Park Fest, teens gather at Olympia Park in such great numbers it's unbelievable. Last year, a few kids threw beer cans at us while we were sitting in our front yard. and later damaged our fence. They also overturned the large dumpster by the Park District building. I hope it's controlled this year. This article is disturbing - http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/26034602/teens-charged-with-attacking-man-near-taste-of-park-ridge

My family and I just moved to Edison Park in the Spring from Lincoln Park and I can't imagine this festival being as bad as the festivals in my old neighborhood. We had to deal with most of the manageable complaints on this thread INCLUDING prostitution, muggings, stabbings and drug dealing. I think that if neighbors are concerned about people trespassing onto their properties that weekend, they should put up "No Trespassing" signs. Maybe even include" Your Activity May Be Recorded" on the signs. They should also leave their outside lights on at night even the light in your livingroom so they think you're up. Talking to the kids (in a civil and respectful manner) that are just hanging out before they get out of control may also help. I'm not for or against this festival since I've never attended or experienced the nuisance that comes with it. I'm just saying that things can be a lot worse and I hope the organizers can better control the crowd before things get a lot worse as time goes by.
