Potholes Everywhere

Anybody know when/if the city plans to repave streets in Norwood Park??? Some of them resemble a war zone!!!

  • Replacing is probably just a dream. You can try contacting Mary O'conner. I'd be happy if I could at least get some potholes filled.i don't see that happening either, even though I've reported many.

  • avb

Good luck trying to get potholes filled! Some streets in Edison Park are littered with them as well. It has gotten so bad that I can't drive down my own street because of the damage it will due to my car. Hopefully car dealerships start selling tanks and humvees so I can drive down my own street again.

Just Energy - Natural Gas

Aggressive salespeople going door to door on both sides of Palatine west of Harlem on Wednesday March 19th. Research indicates there have been many complaints in the past regarding their tactics. Attorneys General in IL and NY both brought legal action against the firm in recent years. Be aware.

  • jack oriole park oriole park homeowner

I had the same experience two weeks back with either a gas or elec switch over. I had to say some unsavory words for the guy to listen to me. Don't waste your time, don't open the door.

  • Do not open the door for anybody. Burglaries & Home Invasions have been occuring more frequently in the past year. They are also impersonating Utility workers. I post these crimes on my Twitter, so everyone knows what's happening. If it happens here, it can happen in Indiana, California, Ohio, etc. Be careful.

  • Do not open the door for anyone you do not personally know. Chances are very very good that you do not want or need to talk to them. Keep your doors locked. Unfortunately things have gotten that way.

Not looking too good for them, I am from that area, I lived 3 blocks away my whole life, and many of my friends that still live there will not even give it a chance. I liked Sandy's, but I like to try new things, granted I only went a few times and each time I did, we were the only people in the place, except for the table of owners/family that are always in the back. I never had a comfortable feeling in there. If they put in a full bar with seats and had beer/drink specials they MIGHT get some regulars to give it a chance. But without that I don't see anything good happening here.

Ok bar, big place, not crowded, at 7:30 a band was beginning to load in.
Burgers aren't very tasty. The patty reminded me of the Salisbury stake from a TV dinner and was over priced, but a large portion and could possibly feed two.
Hopefully it appeals to some and the place makes it. I won't be going back.

Polling Location

I live in the 37th precinct in the 41st Ward. For the 2nd time in 15 years our polling location has moved from Edison School (walking distance) to Olympia Park. Has anyone else's location moved? Where are they going to move it next - Crimea??? (teehee)

  • Ann

yep..my polling place moved from Olympia Park to Edison Lutheran Church. Seems every 5 years we switch between the 2 places. Not sure the reasoning. Good news is that I was notified with a flyer in the mail so I knew about the change, But with mail problems these days not sure if all voters were aware.I receive email blasts from alderman O'Connor but didn't read about polling place realignment.

Stop signs on Oriole Ave

From Devon to Talcott there might as well be no stop signs. Cars use to come to a rolling stop but now they just fly right thru. It's dangerous especially by Edison school. I have contacted the alderman but maybe more pressure will help getting a few police out there in the mornings to show a stop sign means stop !!!

The pedestrian crosssing in the middle of the block at the Harlem "L" stop on the Blue Line, is a daily risk of life and limb. Those of us who have to cross Higgins there, experience that at least twice a day when we go to work and when we return.

The small cement "island" in the middle of the street is hard for drivers to see until they are quite close. Eastbound they are coming off a stop sign and exiting the expressway. They are accelerating and usually not expecting to have to slow down for pedestrians in the middle of the block. Only some drivers seem to notice the flashing yellow light that pedestrians can activate before trying to cross.

There use to be a sign on the island itelf that alerts drivers to the presence of street crossers there. It is was more familiar and visible to oncoming drivers. It provided a much more reliable alert to drivers to expect to slow down for street crossers. But it has been missing for at least two years. While it might be enforcing a state law. It seems that the City and the aldermanic office should be taking the initiative, to have it replaced as soon as possible.

Why wait till their is an injury, a hit & run or even a fatality, before something is done ?

    FROM IDOT, March 6:
We have received your recent web mail requesting that the warning stop sign for a pedestrian crossing at Il 72 (Higgins) and Il 43 (Harlem Ave) be replaced.

Since this location is located at a traffic signal which includes pedestrian signals for all four crossing within the intersection, stop signs in association with any of the crossings are not proper or warranted. However, because this location is in the City of Chicago, the Chicago Department of Transportation would be responsible for installing and maintaining all traffic control devices and they would be responsible for replacing any signing that may have been removed. We recommend you call 311 to request a review of the location by the Chicago Department of Transportation.

  • PattyC328 Have lived in Oriole Park for 42 yrs!

For God's sake. At least you got a reply from IDOT. I never did. But when i contacted the city, they told me the same thing as before, that 72 is a state highway and the city can't do the signage. Talk about the run-around!!!
