In the 40 years living in this neighborhood, I am bitter to know that our neighborhood is now more of a reason for @#$% to steal. Not hating on the new residents but this is BS. Of all days not to have the dogs out...I beat myself up.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way to always lock a bike, even inside. Some years ago, a thief broke out one of the wooden panels in my old overhead door, and got into the garage. No rocket scientist, him, so instead of opening the door and going to town on the contents of my garage - which included several expensive bikes - he instead stole only the long, narrow things he could pass out through the same opening he broke in through (a weed-whacker, a leaf blower, etc.). But I got the message and within a few days I had rigged a steel bar inside and locked our bikes to it! I'd also suggest steel bars over the windows, on the inside if you prefer the aesthetics.

  • Thanks Bob H! Big lesson learned. While the lesson for the day is "don't leave w/o locking everything" especially to the 11year old, yesterday, shopping cart "MO" [very video camera] decided to start lifting garage doors up and apparently ours rised up a little, could not get in so he managed to steal the guard liner. OMG! So new garage next week! Have a great weekend Bob H.

Missing Cat

My cat went missing on Friday night from the 1400 block of West Huron. He is a big brown Tabby with white paws. He answers to the name of Bob.

He normally just wandered the alley between Huron and Superior. Let me know if anyone has seen him!

Thanks!

Traditions of "hot" Ukrainian fashion of the late 1900s

Regardless of the celebration, it was "hot" to have embroidered garments among contemporary Ukrainians in the mid 1970s to the mid 1990s in Chicago. The A Century of Embroidered Fashion exhibit at the Ukrainian National Museum, 2249 W. Superior St., includes many garments and photos of the times.

Late Night Fire on W. Chestnut?

I saw a house on fire and smoking majorly last night around 12am-1am. Tons of firetrucks, noise and commotion.

The firefighters used saws to open the roof. I can't find it anywhere on the news.

Anyone know what happened?

I hope everyone is ok.

Awful noise from ADM on Ogden?

Ive lived in the West Town neighborhood for 5 years now and just moved a few blocks from my apartment on Grand Ave.

I noticed at my new place a awful, squealing noise coming from outside that happens every morning from about 6am to around noon. It lasts for about a minute, stops for a bit then goes back again.

It's amazingly annoying and have to believe others hear it and can't stand it either.

Does anyone know what I'm taking about? Anybody know of any past complaints?

  • Isn't there a Planned Manufacturing District (PMD) just west of there? Unfortunately, I think you moved next to various factories/plants that will probably make those kinds of noises. That said, I'd still bring it up to your alderman.

If you agree.... please take a closer look at Juanita Irizarry. I think she will do a better job of looking out for the entire ward
