lights on ceiling fan

The lights on my ceiling fan no longer work. One by one they went out. For a while I could get some of the 4 bulbs working by twisting the light bulb, but now nothing works. Do I need a new light fixture? Does anyone out there know how I can fix this?

It sounds like there is either a problem with the wire terminations in the light kit, or bulb holders were really cheap and failed after deforming from the heat -or somebody put too high of wattage of bulbs in that they were not rated for and it got too hot.

Sometimes on some fans there is a wiring multi-plug in the light kit that plugs into another wire harness coming down from the fan. Sometimes there are just regular "wing nuts" connecting the wires.

Turn off the power first at the breaker or fusebox -if the fan doesn't work when you do this then you got it. There should be 3 or 4 screws at the bottom portion of the fan that hold the light kit to your fan's main assembly. You can loosen them a little and the light kick can be twisted slightly counter-clockwise and it will simply drop out. it's a good idea to remove the glass diffusers first to drop weight and make it easier to handle and also so they don't fall off and break -remove the light bulbs first.

Then you can inspect the wire-nuts or the snap-plug for any issues. If they are wire-nuts you can unscrew them and make sure the the wires are stripped long enough at the ends (about 1/2" to 5/8") so that they are making a good connection with each other as many times the factories only strip 1/4" and this might be your issue right there.

If the light kit still doesn't work you can take it to Home Despot or Menards and get another one. the light kit can be very low-cost (about $10) as it is the cheapest part of the fan. Many of these are interchangeable even between brands. There are about 2 different sizes (3 and 4-hole mounts)

If this seems too much for you then you can always call an electrician who can do the work for you it's an easy job and shouldn't cost more than an hour's worth of labor. I can't see how you would need a new fan if the old one is still working. it should be a fairly easy fix.

    Hello,
I work as an electrician. Were you spinning the entire socket or just the bulb. If the entire socket was spinning I would recommend you not use the lights until you have an electrician look at it because you may have a broken wire inside of the fixture. But if only the bulbs were spinning the probably just came loose from the vibrations of the fan. Hope this helps.

Infrastructure Trust - Parking Meters on Steroids

So now the Mayor wants to "monetize" city assets. This something that really hasn't been talked much about, much like the parking meter deal, speed cameras, proposed midway sale etc. I sense a trend................

The bottom line is private investment requires a return on their money. Mr 1% has not explained how they're going to get paid back, at what rate and for how long. He also hasn't explained what's wrong with using bonds like we've always done.

Russ, I agree. It is up to us to put pressure on our alderman if we feel like the infrastructure plan is not beneficial. Will the alderman listen to their constituents or just continue trying to win favor with Rahm?

And Alex, I agree! In the last committeeman election, I believe Moreno won with 1,800 something votes in a ward that probably has well over 20X that number of people. Is Moreno speaking for his constituents when he puts one of the largest attraction in Logan Square into deleterious impact/public nuisance process, which could adversely impact surrounding businesses as well as turns a spotlight on Moreno's Ties to a neighboring club which has 10X the amount of crime and political connections than the Congress?

There was a shooting report just across the lot from that club this past Sunday. It is under investigation. Who is the nuisance? Gangbangers who shoot and fight or youths from suburbia and colleges who listen to electronic DJ music which is sweeping the industry and even playing a larger role in Lallopalooza this year?

A 17 y.o was shot in head and died on dance floor at that club in 2009, shortly after Blagos campaign adviser who allegedly was gonna sign a contract that day to be owner through his mistress allegedly overdosed on drugs and died.

In the last mayoral election, which despite being the 1st w/ no Daley on ballot in years, there was still very low turnout. At that time I calculated it, and it came out to about 7% of our city's pop. who voted and then I think it was like 4 or 5% who voted for Rahm. The Sun Times headline was a quote from Rahm saying the people have spoken. Um no, 5% of people have spoken. Everyone talks about 99% vs. 1% and if this keeps up, our political infrastructure will join banks and millionares in being part of the 1%. Back to the original topic, if citizens don't like the infrastructure plan we need to make a push through our aldermen, and hopefully enough will have the chutzpah to vote against it.

Hi everyone. So I receive the everyblock email update daily and it used to be really useful and informative for me, but over the past few months it seems to be monopolized by 100+ post threads of people arguing with one another about things like concealed weapons and speed cameras. I'm all for constructive discussion, but this is drowning out what I found useful about everyblock. I miss reading the other things I signed up for - like the police blotter, real estate transfers, media mentions, lost dogs etc. A couple friends have voiced the same frustration so I don't think this is just my settings.

Does anyone know if there's a way to opt out of these monolith threads? I realize I could just "quit everyblock" but I don't want to do this if there's another way.

Thanks for any ideas!

Lots of new places opening on Division.

It's nice to see Division continuing to develop.

1. I think an Ice cream place is opening next to Alliance (I love that they have just installed a walk-up window).
2. Another Pizza place opening in old Crust spot.
3. WPAC opening soon.
4. The old Renegade spot next to Milk & Honey has been rented to be another food establishment.
5. A wine shop next to Folklore.
6. Sprout San Francisco in the old Grow spot.
7. An Italian restaurant in the old Dee's place.
8. Anyone know what's opening at the old Angels & Mariachi, (I know it's another bar)?

Any others?

Recently they've started a make-shift repair shop on the property being run out of a couple of semi-trailer sized metal storage containers. Here are some possible answers:
    * He doesnt care how it looks.
    * He doesnt care about the neighborhood.
    * He prefers spending his time doing other things.
    * If it doesnt impact his business, why clean up?
