Stacking Snow Removal on Streets

For the second season in a row, we have a complex across the street (100 block of S. Aberdeen) that has a plowing service clear the snow from their parking lot and alley each snowfall. For the second season in a row, we have a complex across the street (100 block of S. Aberdeen) that has a plowing service clear the snow from their parking lot and alley each snowfall. Nothing unusual about that except for the fact that in order to keep their parking lot and alley clear, they plow all the snow directly across the street. Last year, the mound took up six parking spaces, and was so high that it probably didn't melt until late April. This year, they are back at it, and since the snow storms after Christmas, the stacked snow had been taking up about 4 parking spaces.
Additionally, although it's less high than last year, the mound completely blocks drivers' views when pulling out of our alley.

My first intuition had been to call the alderman's office, but given their lack of response on other issues I've brought up, I don't feel they'll react or follow up. Is calling 311 the way to go? There's a bit of an investigation to do here as there are numerous townhome and duplex units off of that alley, and I'm not sure which complex is the culprit. Maybe they all share the same plowing service. It's not as easy as reaching out to one HOA and asking them to have their snow removed or stacked on their property.

I've noticed this happening more and more around the West Loop since I'm sensitive to it.

The newly formed Tri-Taylor Community Association will be taking nominations for all board member positions according to the by-laws as approved on December 11, 2014 at a meeting at Washington Irving School. The board
includes four officers (President, Secretary, Treasurer, and
Vice-Chair)
and five members elected at large from within the TTCA boundaries. All board members must be eligible
Resident Members within the TTCA (see attached by-laws) and, with the exception of the Vice-Chair who may serve as Chair the following year, will serve 1-year terms. The Association shall make an effort to distribute board membership within a diverse geography of the community area.
Please send nominations of yourself or someone else to Rebecca Hendrick (see contact information below). Please provide the address of the persons being nominated and explain in several sentences why the persons being nominated want to or should be on the board.
According to the by-laws, board members shall be elected by written ballot and by a majority of voting members in attendance at the annual membership meeting in December. Because TTCA is only recently formed, we will be holding the annual meeting with the election of board members as soon as is feasible, probably in late January or early February. We will send out the date and location of the annual meeting in the near future.

  • One of your top priorities should be replacing your current alderman Jason Ervin.

Other than that, best of luck in your new endeavor. Count on my support.

  • NAFSBUC Walking my Fitbit and Flatcoat 10k steps/day

I believe that the forces of Ervin have kept any potential challengers off the ballot. There is another huge thread on EB that details the workings of the election board and why the people of Chicago are saddled with incompetence. Write in someone-anyone!!

Unless we hear from an owner by Sunday, we are taking him to PAWS for neuter/deworming/vaccinations. We will be keeping him until he finds a home but I can't imagine he wandered very far - he seems a little prissy and spoiled and wouldn't go too far from home! Please message me!!

If I didnt have so many rescues under and outside my roof I would take him in a heartbeat and spoil him like the rest! Anyone would be lucky to live with this guy!

Living west of western avenue? Thoughts

Hi all! Just looking to see what peoples experiences have been living west of western (one block); between Harrison and Polk. Is it safe to walk in the evening hours? Do you guys feel safe? Or is there a real threat of robbery?
Thanks for your help

Its just as safe as wicker park, lincoln park or ukraine village. There are working class folks who are professors, drs, teachers.. Im not sure what "safety" issues you are pertaining to but your chances of being robbed are about the same as other areas. Use the "i live in a big city" common sense tactic and you will be just fine. Still concerned? Drive in the area during several different times.. Morning, noon, night.... Still feeling unsafe, you can go to cloout neighborhood with rent prices to match so that you feel like you are fitting in. Good luck 😒

  • That's where I live. I've never had an issue, never felt unsafe. Lots of families living around here. It's just like anywhere else in the city- there's crime. I just try to be smart about not putting myself in harm's way.

  • Thank you both for your response. I consider myself a street smarts type of woman, and am aware that crime can happen anywhere. I really like the location- and the proximity to things like public trans, e-way and my job :)
I wanted to get some insight from real residents.
    Thank you.
