Need experienced handyman to fix my balcony door

My balcony door has run off the track and even when I unscrew the bottom screws I can't get the door out to fix it. I need an experienced handyman to take a look and get the door off the track and also take a look at the damaged track. I don't need someone like me who dabbles in this sort of thing, I need someone with experience with balcony doors, if possible. Does anyone know a good handyman with this type of experience?

  • I do not have any personal experience recommendation but you may want to call Mr. Handyman of Lincoln Park 312-985-9283.

I noticed two Mr. Handyman trucks parked on the 1500 block of west Adams street for the past month. I then noticed several of their trucks parked south of the Whole Foods store on Kingsbury. They have a "robust" web site and reviews on Yelp which may provide some further assistance.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • My wive runs a handyman service and lives in the neighborhood.

They do a lot of marketing is for Seniors, but they service everyone. http://www.plhi.org/services/handyman-services.aspx

  • BTW - The heavier glass doors usually have screws at the top and bottom that retract the rollers. Sometimes the top screws are in a different place than the lower ones.

Support Viaduct Sanitation & Safety Initative

Hello, I live in Pilsen and we recently started a new initiative called #pilsencares. Our community has struggled for a long time with unsanitary viaducts and we believe this negatively impacts health and safety. #Pilsencares is collaborating with non-profit agencies to include other Chicago communities and support a citywide viaduct sanitation program. We had a news story that aired on Fox32 News last week (http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/26491819/chicagoan-starts-petition-to-clean-up-viaducts%23.VA_R8t2fuMM.facebook)

We have another story coming out on Monday (will post update). Please take a moment...

We have another story coming out on Monday (will post update). Please take a moment to read our change.org petition and say YES to ROUTINE viaduct sanitation across the city. We also have a dedicated site now to access the petition on change.org. Should be easier to remember.

New site link: http://chicagoviaduct.com/

Tweet pics of your viaduct conditions to @chicagoviaduct

Please share with ALL friends, family, church members, and businesses (include on social media sites too- Facebook, twitter, instagram, & tumblr). Out of state? No prob. We welcome your support. Please encourage folks to share their story about why they believe we need improved viaduct sanitation programs.

Breast Cancer Awareness Contest

Please take a minute to go vote for the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System's Pink Glove Dance video. I got to be a part of this fun day full of advocacy for breast cancer awareness. You can vote once a day per email address until September 23rd. We are the only Chicago hospital that entered the contest...let's show some Chicago support!

Isn't it time we focus on Breast Cancer Prevention? It sickens me seeing contributors to breast cancer, like Avon, trying to less their guilt.

  • Hi Robin. Prevention comes from awareness, so I'm not sure what your issue is. Also, if you actually went to the website to see what this contest supports, maybe you'd have recognized that if UI Health wins, we get nothing but instead a $15,000 donation goes to Imerman Angels (a...

Also, if you actually went to the website to see what this contest supports, maybe you'd have recognized that if UI Health wins, we get nothing but instead a $15,000 donation goes to Imerman Angels (a Chicago charity that assists people affected by all types of cancer). I'm sorry you're "tired and cranky." I don't appreciate you attempting to bring negativity into my post, it's completely unnecessary. Feel free to comment back, but I'm not into catty cyber conversations, so I probably won't reply.

Craft beer suggestions - not bars

HI..Have some people coming from Portand Oregon visiting and would like to buy some good craft beer brewed in Chicago that I can buy and bring back to house. Can you guys suggest any that I can buy preferably at Marianos or Binnys. Thanks!

  • If you go to Binnys in Lincoln Park(near Goose Island) to their new bar(way at the back of the store), ask for Caiti-she is a cicerone (certified beer specialist)she can help you find things there and recommend new local stuff. Its also a great place to try out new things as they have many local beers on tap that change frequently-great place!!!

  • Binny's would be the place to go. There are so many fine choices but some brewers are better at certain styles than others. What kind of style or what specific beers do your friends like? (You could give them a fine bourbon barrel stout and if they are in to...

Binny's would be the place to go. There are so many fine choices but some brewers are better at certain styles than others. What kind of style or what specific beers do your friends like? (You could give them a fine bourbon barrel stout and if they are in to IPA's, then they may not consider it good.)

If you don't know, here is my must-have all-around beer collection that just about everyone should find something they like:
    - Blue Collar: Old Style (keep it on the shelf, next to the Malort)
    - Light and easy: Bells Oberon and Goose Island Matilda
    - Dark: Surly Bender
    - Really Dark: Any stout from Dark Horse Brewery
    - Desert: Breckenridge Vanilla Porter

Breckenridge is in CO and available nationally, so calling it "Midwest" might be a stretch, but there is nothing better with chocolate. Matilda is also national now, but it was definitely born here.

You might also have an IPA on hand, but anything will do there. By definition, that style can't ever be "bad."
