Break in on West Ohio today

If anyone saw anything suspicious on West Ohio/2100 block please let us know. Two lap top computers were taken in the afternoon from our locked condo. - nothing else that we know of. We think unavailable calls were left on our answering machine first to see if anyone was home?

  • How did you know ComEd was even coming around? They don't normally make announcements in my experience.

Do you usually have to open a gate to let them in?

  • Kat u village Kat, u village resident

Usually my husband was able to let them in but not yesterday.. So we left gate open.

tri-Taylor

I was looking into moving into the neighborhood (Harrison and western, one block west of western) and noticed that across the I-290 going north (Jackson and western) there's a housing complex. I wanted to know if the people living at that complex venture south and cause problems. I don't want to buy and later have to move because it is not safe. Please share your experiences on the matter.

  • One big difference is that property tax a block east of Western is double that of a block west of Western. In either case, my kids would not attend the neighborhood school. I purchased in the summer, and I just drove around at different hours of the day to get...

One big difference is that property tax a block east of Western is double that of a block west of Western. In either case, my kids would not attend the neighborhood school. I purchased in the summer, and I just drove around at different hours of the day to get a feel for the neighborhood. I also stopped to ask residents in the area what their thoughts were. At the end of the day, it will depend on your comfort level and what you're looking for. E.g. are you ok with black kids/teens on the streets, what if people are dealing drugs on or near your block, what if there's a shooting down the street, etc. It's all personal preference, so everything is relative. What scares one person won't scare someone else. People have been living on these blocks for decades, and they're still alive =D. My family has not directly experienced any negative issue yet, but that doesn't mean we won't. We're outside a lot when the weather is nice, and we enjoy the diversity.

Technically anything west of Western is not considered Tri-Taylor (the boundaries are Congress to the north, south to Roosevelt, west to Western and east to Ogden) and like most people have already mentioned there is a pretty big difference in terms of living east and west of Western.

Technically anything west of Western is not considered Tri-Taylor (the boundaries are Congress to the north, south to Roosevelt, west to Western and east to Ogden) and like most people have already mentioned there is a pretty big difference in terms of living east and west of Western.

Where you're looking is considered East Garfield Park.

There have been cases of police and criminal activities in Tri-Taylor, along Western and Flournoy (somebody was shot right by the dog park last spring, and there was a high speeding vehicle flying down Flournoy last summer, somebody was chased on foot by a group of men by the kids park, etc.) but I couldn't tell you if they were from around Jackson and Western or elsewhere...

We live east of Western, in Tri-Taylor, and since I don't venture out west I cannot tell you much about how good/bad the area is. We do have friends that live on the 2300 and 2400 block of Harrison and the ones west of Western do wish to move east...

If you have a choice I'd suggest looking east, you'll definitely see more families and professionals (IMD residents and people working in the loop), but if you are set of west of Western then I wouldn't go past 1 block west and even that can be sketchy. East of Western along Flournoy, Polk, and Taylor is nice and feels like a neighborhood, but even there you can still find houses with sketchy element (even by the kids and dog park on Claremont and Flournoy there are a couple of homes where the residents/families have been there for years and their adult kids are rumored to be gang members, and the neighbors call police on them frequently). As anywhere in the city you have to be aware of your surroundings but west of Western seems to be still iffy.
