Boycott the Sun-times

Bruce Rauner used to own a piece of the sun-times, now after not endorsing candidates as their policy, they come out and endorse Rauner, and fire a reporter for not writing good things about him. They want to keep us stupid, and are worse than Fox news. I'll never give them a dime of my money again. I remember when the tribune endorsed Bush (jr.), look at the big hole that got us in. that was the day we canceled our subscription. If you want real, accurate news, just look online.

Since the monopolistic powers that be prevented having a question of term limits on the ballot in the upcoming election, I am starting a new movement called DIY Term Limits, with DIY meaning Do It Yourself.

For legislators, 10 years in the same legislative body is enough. They need time to get familiar with the legislative body, become a committee chair, and have some influence. Then they need to move up or out.

For those in executive positions, two terms (even if one is not a full term) are enough.

I think I might make up some DIY Term Limit Shirts for the city elections....................

Alderman Cardenas: A rubber-stamp for Rahm

Interesting new site that grades how independent or not your alderman is by tracking whether they have an independent perspective and prioritize their constituency, or just act as another of Mayor One Percent's meat puppets for impoverishing Chicago for the benefit of the wealthy and big corporations. See http://takebackchicago.org/find-your-alderman/alderman-george-cardenas

Cardenas gets a big thumbs-down here: He never votes against his master, and many of the things he has supported has caused harm in our community.

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

Interestingly, that Website lists Fioretti as a Champion. And what happened to Fioretti's ward when there was redistricting? 100% of his former constituents were moved to other wards. And the 2nd ward was moved from the near South side to the near North side.

  • Justin K. McKinley Parker since 2008, south sider since 1998

Supposedly, now that Karen Lewis has bowed out of the race, Rahm is using his mayoral war chest to punish aldermen who vote independently. It's easy to see how the corrupt Democratic machine in Chicago (and Illinois) really works against the interests of its constituency. (I think Republicans are much worse -- blatantly corrupt and malevolent, in fact -- but the Democrats still have some work to do.)

New person running for Alderman Pete Mc May

You need to highly consider this man. Meet him at the ralley to get rid of the speed cameras on Archer and Paulina. He was there fighting against it. Alderman Cardenas voted for speed camera.

  • Justin K. McKinley Parker since 2008, south sider since 1998

John, I would be surprised if this would not have been done as part of the planning for the new intersection, no? Is this not part of contemporary traffic management and construction practices? I have hopes that Pershing and Ashland turns out to be 1) a more efficient intersection, and 2) less of an eyesore.

No of these people deserve my Vote

I hope I'm not the only one who is completely disgusted with the political commercials right now! I wouldn't vote for anyone with one of these negative, slanderous commercials. Tell me what qualities you have for the job. Why I should vote for you without slandering the other person. If even a shred of the governer candidate's commercials is to be believed both deserve to be investigated and arrested. As for alderman candidate's I should be tripping over you in my neighborhood not just when it time for my vote. The same goes for the Mayor. I feel so discouraged!

There are very few incumbents in this state that I would vote for. I have been voting for over 40 years and have come to several conclusions about the current ruling party in Illinois (yes other states also, but I live here), They only care about their power, they will say anything to get your vote, they want their position for life and then they want to hand it down to their children. Since the current regime refuses to allow a vote on term limits I think the only choice is to vote for anyone but an incumbent. Yes it is nice and funny to vote for Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse, but that will change nothing. We have to vote for a non incumbent who can actually win. (Yes, the lessor of two evils). But the good part is, if the new person is no better, vote them out also. We cannot keep allowing the same group of people to rule our state. I for one am tired of Daley's, Madigans, Lipinski's, Burke's. Cullertons. Durbin and Kirk. They all need to go.

Politicians need to remember that they are there to represent us, not themselves or a political party. It wont change overnight but we can and must make them change.

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

Lifetime Bridgeporter, I don't think it is correct to say 'they want their position for life and then want to hand it down to their children'. You forgot about handing things down to their nieces and nephews and their in-laws! Plus, they don't wait to hand jobs down, they keep...

Lifetime Bridgeporter, I don't think it is correct to say 'they want their position for life and then want to hand it down to their children'. You forgot about handing things down to their nieces and nephews and their in-laws! Plus, they don't wait to hand jobs down, they keep theirs and push someone else out of the way for another job, as Ald Zalewski in Garfield Ridge has installed his son as State Rep.

I agree that we need to vote out anyone who has been there too long. Having people in the public sector who have worked in the private sector may bring some new ideas to governing.

DNA Info: Residents Hoping for Dog-Friendly Area in McKinley Park

Area dog lovers: McKinley Park area residents want a safe, legal place to allow their dogs to play off leash. This would help dogs exercise, socialize, create a community space for dog-owning families. A dog park committee has formed to begin the application process. Here is an article about our efforts on DNA Info: http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20141024/mckinley-park/residents-hoping-for-dog-friendly-area-mckinley-park

Please take a moment to respond to our 7-question survey about what you would like to see in a dog park. Thank you!

Maureen Sullivan's Palmisano Park Council Wins Award

Congratulations to Maureen, Rob and Dan on winning the annual "Volunteers in the Parks" award from Friends of the Parks.

http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20141013/bridgeport/palmisano-park-advisory-council-wins-city-award

I don't serve on the park advisory council but have had the privilege of volunteering for the Bridgeport Clean and Green and Bridgeport Air and Water Show over the last few years. These events have given me the opportunity to work closely with Maureen Sullivan and learn from her the true meaning of community spirit. Her resourcefulness and ability to bring businesses, community groups and individuals together for a common purpose is exactly why I want her to be our next alderman.

Rob and Dan are both pretty great, too :) Congratulations to all!

  • Thanks Rene!
The PAC has great ideas for the park. And, while I know that Rob & I are proud to be recognized by Friends of The Park, Maureen is the real driving force of the council. She has put in a lot of her very-limited free time to make events at Palmisano great. She doesn't give up. Having worked with her on numerous projects over the last few years I think Maureen will make a good Alderman.
