Big Teardown

does anyone know what the plan is for where that big old gym/auditorium on archer, near the dunkin donuts, and not to far from the old cta bus barn? Pray its not going to be a wallmart . I love the older architecture, it has so much more character than a modern strip mall. every time we loose an old building we loose a piece of our soul. its a shame it couldn't of been turned into a performing arts community center, a magnetic charter school, or even the george cardenas aldermanic library. We sure could use another park, and it could all be financed with red light cameras and TIF's.

That building was part of St, Agnes Church, an old Irish parish that was merged with St Joseph and St Anne on 38th Place and California, with the new parish being renamed and the old names lost.

The building on Archer was a gym, and they also held a lot of bingo nights there. They knocked down the empty St Agnes Church which stood on the northeast corner of Pershing and Washtenaw, the school is part of CPS, and the priests' residence was supposed to provide some kind of services to women, though without any signs out there now I don't know if that is the current use.

Recorder of Deeds has the parcel, composed of 13 lots, transferred from the Catholic Bishop of Chicago to Archer Two LLC (limited liability corporation), on Sept 26 2014, and mortgage of $1.32 million granted by Lakeside Bank.

Does anyone know what they are builing at 39th & Rockwell

  • Justin K. McKinley Parker since 2008, south sider since 1998

They're building a 1:1 scale replica of the Old Bus Barn to honor CTA busing.

Actually, I hear that a Planet Fitness and maybe some other retail is planned to move in there ...

  • I believe it's going to be a L.A. Fitness and a bunch of smaller stores

New person running for Alderman Pete Mc May

You need to highly consider this man. Meet him at the ralley to get rid of the speed cameras on Archer and Paulina. He was there fighting against it. Alderman Cardenas voted for speed camera.

  • Tony Adams curmudgeon

I'm guessing not being on the ballot is just about impossible overcome. It was pretty embarrassing to watch the returns and see so many wards with very competitive races of two, three, four or more people running and then to see the 12th ward listed as "Uncontested" - especially when we al know that isn't true.

  • denise b concerned citizen

I just feel that if he did not find Pete to be threat them his name would have been put on the ballot.

We came up short, but I am proud of our campaign.

Friends,

After a hard fought 6 months, we came up short last night in the 12th Ward. It will take some time to tally the results (write-in votes aren’t officially tabulated on election night) but it is safe to say we got over 20% of the vote – more than respectable considering the myriad obstacles we faced.

Friends,

After a hard fought 6 months, we came up short last night in the 12th Ward. I am really proud of our all volunteer campaign; an effort funded primarily through small individual donations and powered by 12th Ward residents who selflessly gave countless hours of their time.

Building an effective, progressive political organization is no mean feat –yet we managed to do just that in just a matter of months. Thanks to our efforts and unity, our candidates will be even more successful in future elections – and we now have the Ward structure necessary to help Jesus “Chuy” Garcia bring home a historic victory in just 6 short weeks!

Thank You All!

Solidarity,

Pete DeMay

El Rey Valet Parking Again

Well another Saturday I didn't get a spot in front of MY home because the ElRey hall is parking the valet cars in front of my home. I wrote to Cardenas 2 weeks ago, not even a reply back. He is a joke. I'm just glad it wasn't below zero and carrying a 3 month old, would be horrible. Let's hope Pete gets voted in and this nonsense stops.

  • Tony Adams curmudgeon

One of the saddest things, to me, about this place is that while the neighborhood is nearly devoid of bars and entertainment venues that appeal to local residents (uh, or at least to me), this place opens up and encourages people to drive there (and drink and drive away) by having valet parking.

  • Tony Adams: You just described every restaurant of worth in Chicago.

Let's get out and vote Peter John DeMay for 12th Ward Alderman!

The best way for you to easily make a difference in our neighborhood, ward and city is to get out and vote on Election Day: Tuesday, February 24, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.!

We recommend a write-in vote for Peter John DeMay for 12th Ward Alderman to best serve our neighborhoods through full funding for education, more opportunities for youth, responsible economic development, and increased attention to city services.

Learn more about Pete by visiting http://petedemay.us.

Unlike current 12th Ward alderman Cardenas, who obeys Mayor Rahm Emanuel by voting with him nearly all the time, Pete will serve as an independent voice on the City Council, fighting against punishing and regressive city policies like the speed and red light cameras that Rahm and Cardenas wholly supported.

Pete is a write-in candidate, so you must write in his full name – “Peter John DeMay” – when voting. Here's what we recommend:

1. On your ballot, check the box for “Write-In” under 12th Ward Alderman.

2. Write in “PETER JOHN DEMAY” for 12th Ward Alderman. Please write the full name: Votes for “Pete DeMay” may not count.

3. Vote for Jesus “Chuy” Garcia for Mayor!

If you have any questions or problems with voting on Election Day, members of Pete's all-volunteer team will be present outside every 12th Ward polling location. We are happy to help! Also, feel free to contact Pete directly at 773-791-1428 or Campaign Manager Tony Diaz at 708-856-1111.

west side and south side economic development

Living wage jobs in blighted neighborhoods is so vital to building community and diminishing crime that i think the only way to change the current trend in these area's of the city is to create tax free enterprise zones which would include no property tax ,income tax ,or sales tax to all willing to embark on real change in these area.

Vote for Pete

Hi neighbors,
I received a flyer that said if voting for Pete it has to be wrote in as Peter John DeMay, I wanted to make sure everyone knew. I'd hate to see George win do to a technicality such as this!

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

I'll just repeat what I had written earlier -- if you forget what to do, just ask the election judge for the list of write-in candidates. A relative voted at the library on Archer and said she was allowed to take the list with her over to the machine, and then return it.

And it is actually a type-in vote, not a write-in. You check the X for write-in candidate, then a keyboard pops up on the screen, and you press the screen to spell out the name.

Our submissive incumbent alderman George Cardenas

Have you seen the "50 Shades ..." propaganda from the panicking Cardenas campaign? Based on his voting record, I'd say that Cardenas is the submissive, and Rahm's holding the whip.

Can You Play Hooky for Pete and Chuy?

After months of campaigning, we are just one week away from Election Day! The Pete DeMay campaign continues to enjoy a lead at 12th Ward early voting in McKinley Park, and George Cardenas is starting to feel the heat! Just today, he put out a full-color, unsigned, low-road, negative mailer against Pete: This comes after MONTHS of refusing to acknowledge that he even had an opponent.

We can’t let off the gas now! We are going to need at least 80 volunteers on Election Day in order to win. We need people to explain to voters how to write-in Pete’s name and poll watchers to discourage The Machine’s classic Election Day shenanigans.

Are you willing to play hooky on Election Day - Tuesday, February 24th - for Pete and Chuy’s campaign?

Your work or school will still be there on February 25th, but we only have one chance to take our city back!

If you can volunteer, please e-mail us at petedemay@gmail.com so we can put you on the schedule. You can also call Campaign Manager Tony Diaz at 708-856-1111 to sign up or if you have any questions, or call Pete directly at 773-791-1428.

For more information about Pete and his campaign for the 12th Ward, visit http://petedemay.us.

  • If you have children, or grandchildren, or even just want this city to be a better place for everybody, Vote for change. If you like the red light cameras and the speed trap cameras, vote for the same.
