Cardenas is mad...lol

So, seems like Cardenas is mad that Pete McKay though of the brilliant idea for the "ticket" idea. He sure has everyone's attention and I CAN NOT wait to get Cardenas out of office. He is only out for himself, NO ONE else. He is cocky and arrogant, and needs the boot! Don't forget to vote for Pete!!!!!!!!

11th Ward - How Was Last Night's the Alderman Election Forum @ St. Gabe?

-What you think of the candidates?
-Who's making sense about bringing the goods home to the 11th Ward?
-Who's shifting and shimming away from earlier statements?
-Who's Out of Touch
-Who's IN?
-Why?

  • Jeanne Marie Mondrella-Keating Real Esate Broker and Chicago Highrise Rep, Jeanne

I went and thought they all performed better than on Channel 11. They are getting more comfortable with the questions as they are a little repetitive but again, I think the experience will win this election so I do think Patrick Thompson is the best candidate for the community at this time.

I live in the 11th ward, but I went to the forum to see democracy in action in Bridgeport for the first time in my 35 years in Chicago. None of these candidates is ever going to win an elocution contest. Based on specificity of ideas, I would give the nod to Sullivan. Kozlar came across as quite sincere and well-meaning, although the words rushed ahead of the ideas at times. Daley is your typical mealy-mouthed Chicago politician. He went on at length about how he'd "discuss" the idea of a citizen-elected elected school board, but in the end he still supports the absolute power of the mayor to appoint the entire board. He represents the obedient status quo. I hope my friends in Bridgeport won't get fooled again. If Daley wins, their new boss will be exactly the same as their old bosses.

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

I just hope that this interest being shown is not simply current owners of property trying to ascertain what they might be able to sell their places for.

  • Guadalupe Garcia LongTime Brighton Park Neighbor

Good point. Not sure what criteria was used to conclude the interest. Makes me happy to read about something other than violence.

Dangers of allowing your cat outdoors

Besides FIV(Feline Aids) FeLV is a killer feline leukemia retro virus.
FeLV is spread through saliva, sex, food, blood contact cat to cat.
NO DANGER TO HUMANS.
As a volunteer in 60621 I have taken in alley kittens that died of Felv.

Fleas are another issue.
Those green flea collars do not work at all.
Every cat I have trapped and taken to PAWS Lurie for free s/n that had
a collar on had fleas near it's tail.

The best way to avoid your cat getting fleas and bringing them into
your house is do not allow your cat outdoors.
The myth that a cat needs outdoor time is just that a myth and a dangerous myth.
Cars, bad people approaching your friendly cat
and torturing that cat, injuries, infection and the danger of being boarded up in an X house.
A Cat will be curious and enter an abandoned house, hear loud workmans voices enter , hide and then be boarded up and die of starvation.
Cats also seek refuge in garages and often get locked in.
3 felony cat torture incidents in one month last summer in 60621..

15/20 Lounge

Has anyone heard of the this place? We've been reading about various new businesses opening in the area but I haven't read anything on this lounge. It's tucked away in a secluded location on W. 24th Pl. just west of Canal and just west of Connies' parking lot. Who owns this, when did it open and what's the clientele? Is it a lounge or a gentleman's club?

  • I haven't seen it yet!

  • Erik H Loyola & UofC alumnus, Chicago Loot Drop charity

I don't see it anywhere on the internet except here. Time for them to get some SEO going!

Sock Drive

Do you have single socks in need of a match? Bring them to 3440 S Morgan between now and Valentine's day and we'll find them a match!

Kedzie closed at 47th Street until 02/16/2015

Kedzie closed at 47th Street for sewer construction. Scheduled to reopen on 02/16/2015

Fellow Resident: Not sure what the alternates are as I only go (from the south) to 47th Place. I do not think it is as bad as when they had it closed down to the viaduct repairs which had a longer detour. My guess is from the south swing on one of the (west) side streets that run from 48th to 47th and then jump on Archer back to Kedzie and from the north just reverse it, jump on Archer to 47th and then take a side street (like St Louis) to 47th place or 48th and back on to Kedzie. Heck, perhaps you could even exit and enter through a store parking lot?

Recycling

Let's start recycling. Call your alderman and request this service.

  • Tony Adams curmudgeon

"Call your alderman" is a great idea, but do we call our new alderman or our current alderman?

  • For those who do not have blue carts....

If you live in an apartment building with 5 or more units that does not provide recycling services, please add your report to our site:

    www.mybuildingdoesntrecycle.com

We are collecting reports to show the city that residents of high-density apartment buildings want the Burke-Hansen ordinance (Chicago's ordinance mandating that high-density buildings provide recycling services) to be enforced.

Please also spread the word about our site!
