Anyone else hold their child back from CPS

This is a big concern of mine as my child is eligible for kindergarten this fall but I honestly feel he isn't ready emotionally or academically. I decided to hold my son back and he will start kindergarten next year at a private school. My plans are to send him there until 1st or 2nd grade. Is it possible to switch to a cps school at a later date? Any advice or recommendations?

My husband made the previous comment. Now it's my turn :)
Do what is best for your child. If you choose to come back to CPS you may request the grade your child is to be enrolled so long as it is not above the norm age level grade unless you have appropriate paperwork to prove they belong a year ahead. The only time that grade level placement will be a potential concern is when your child is in middle school. If your student will be 15 prior to September 1st, they will be automatically enrolled as a high school freshman. It's a bizarre concept but that's how most school systems function.
Personally, have mixed feelings about private schools, like any school system there are good and bad. If your child needs additional support (such as a 504 or an IEP) please do yourself a favor and go to public school. CPS handles all educational support services for students with IEPs and 504s in the city and it is much, much easier as a parent to have those handled at the school your child attends with teachers and counselors who work with your child daily.

If you're still looking outside CPS, check out Montessori schools when you're scoping out options.

Sound proofing companies?

I am taking over a theater space that is on the second floor above a bar. We have been told that on live band nights the sound bleed is very bad.

I have been looking into soundproofing but have only found two companies that do it. One companies yelp reviews caution of some type of scam artist. The other the owner has taken four weeks just to get me a quote. Anyone have someone they like?

Not sure that this place is appropriate, but I have noticed it on the way to MI.

Found Keys Paulina & Fletcher

Found a set of keys in front of my house near the corner of Paulina and Fletcher on 7/30/14. There's 8 keys and a car opener on a white leather wristlet. There is a special identifying key, if they are your keys you should be able to tell me what it is.

Local Business

Does anyone know what they are putting at the corner of School and Ashland? Across from the Whole Foods.

  • Strip mall w vitamin shoppe and others, I think panera backed out. Yes old bank lot.

  • They can start work at 7, but they cannot use heavy machinery or create a noise disturbance before 8. If they are being loud enough to disturb residences prior to 8, I think they are violating the noise ordinance. I have found my alderman's office to be very helpful in these situations.

Fireworks in Chi Che Wang park

If anyone else is as bothered by the constant fireworks in the park as my dogs are, please call the police. Maybe enough complaints will finally get them to stop. I believe it is the people that live at 1750 West Diversey. If the owner of that home is on here, I am begging you to please stop! In addition to terrifying my dogs, they are landing all over mine and my neighbors decks and yards. Thanks

It's a long walk to 6000 North

I was at the mouth of Diversey Harbor at about 2:00PM today when my bicycle chain derailed. Before I realized what had happen, a nice young man diagnosed the problem and fix the derailment for me. I probably would have figured it out, but if not, I would have to walk back to 6000 North. Thanks again!!

nice to see there's some decent folk out there. make sure you pay that forward, homie.

  • I ride the whole trail sometimes and always carry my Ventura card with me just in case I have a problem like this.
