Seeking specific information about Monday May 21st re: NATO chaos

I work all throughout the Gold Coast on Mondays, and have alot of curiosity about what to expect next week while NATO is in session. Assuming I can GET to you guys, do you anticipate trouble with driving and parking on that day for a service person going in and out of lobbies and residences (everyone knows me well)?

Thank you, one and ALL... I am developing a fairly good picture of what the situation is likely to be... access to roads and possibly hard-to-find parking is most likely OK... in terms of residential access, possibly not, based on blanket policies. I will call the 3 buildings that could affect me in this way and ask what to expect. Also, chaos and widespread insanity could create worse conditions, but there is no way to know ahead of time. This was my first experience with Every Block and I am impressed, and grateful... :-) Hope you all sail through with no disruptions to your lovely world!

  • Beginning late afternoon on Monday we are to expect massive numbers of motorcades etc heading out to O'Hare. The Summit ends at 2:00 and many people are leaving right away. So definitely avoid major roads etc leading from downtown to the airport during that time.

Park closed

Does anyone know why the park across from fox and obel between grand and Illinois is now closed off? It says private property now

So, since it's private property they can technically fence it off and only allow residents of the green building to use it. Seems fairly odious on the building's management part. I'm pretty the developer got approval to tear down the historic Kraft building because the project included a park that would be open to everyone who lived in the neighborhood. In fact, I remember being OK with them tearing down the historic Kraft building because at least we got a really classy park, with two architecturally unique buildings (well, they got one at least).

So hopefully, this is a temporary thing, or they're just shutting it down for improvements, or whatever, because I'm going to be fairly pissed if they decide to permanently fence it off and make it resident only. That wasn't part of the original deal the developer made with the city.

  • Gail Spreen Live and work in Streeterville

The park is temporarily closed to ensure that we don't have any protestors 'camping' in the park. This also gives the landscapers an opportunity to reseed and give the grass a break. will most likely be reopened around Memorial weekend.

  • What smart thinking on the part of the building. I value that park highly and it would be a shame for it to be damaged or ruined for actual residents.

I remember in 2003 when the WTO met in Chicago and the protests were intense. We were living near Daley Plaza at the time and it was incredible, every night we were watching police in riot-gear trying to keep people from rioting. There were a lot of anti-war protests going on as well and between the two groups, things got very messy.

From New Bike Racks - where did they come from?:

"Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?"
