Blue Star Memorial at Harlem and Avondale

To whomever restored the Blue Star plaque it looks great. I took the flag down because it was a disgrace.

60631 post Office

This post office is getting worse and worse. I went to mail a letter Monday. Even though it was simply Presidents Day all three mail boxes were overflowing as they do during the Cristmas Season. Nothing is going on that this should of happened. It appears that they didn;t pick up on Saturday. THIS IS NOT SAFE!!! People are mailing bills, sending out important information, I complain and complain. No one as of this point has listened. To add insult to injury today when my mail was delivered, once again, they missed the box for some of it. So now when I get my mail I not only have to check the mail box but I need to check the ground and front yard area. It is not uncommon to receive others mail tha I am at least good enough to return to the post office or proper owner. I wonder how much of my mail is in others mail boxes and not forwarded to me. I have been waiting for a $50.00 refund check for four months now that I was assured it was mailed. Have no idea where it's at. Please support our area for better postal service by filing complaints with the postal service, alderwoman, and congressman. This is really getting bad.

New muscle burger

Not trying to be negative, but has anyone been to muscle burger on Higgins? I went last night with my daughter. We were the only two in there. We ordered a burger and when it came we were somewhat taken back. It was on a pita type bread, with a gooey cream cheese sauce. The meat couldn't be cut with a fork. It was flat and rubbery . I asked what kind of meat it was and the server said 100% beef. Not sure about that. We didn't eat it. I felt bad because I want the business to succeed but I am not going to eat something that looks like a pressed cardboard. Anyone else gone there?

    Thanks Cid

  • I thought about going at some point, but based on your experience and the Yelp reviews, looks like a place to stay away from.

Water Meter Bills

If I can ask, what is everyone paying on an average bill with a water meter? We switched to a meter back in October after our 6 month non-metered water bill was nearly $400.

Our most recent water meter bill came the other day and it was $82. $40 for water and about $40 for sewer. Just wondering the ballpark of everyone else's bills. We have a Georgian - 1 full bathroom and 1 powder room. It's myself and my...

It's myself and my husband. We do about 4-6 loads of laundry per week with a HIgh efficiency wash machine. Daily showers (1 each. We don't go crazy or have jobs where we need to shower 2-3 times a day). We usually run full loads on the dishwasher. I'd like to think we are average consumers of water. No, we're not conserving extremely, but at the same time we're careful to only run the dishwasher when it's full, shut the faucet off when we are brushing teeth, etc.

I'm frightened to see the bills in the summer when were watering flowers and using the garden hose to do all the outdoor stuff. Neither myself of my husband plays fireman with the garden hose but there is an average amount that gets used to occasionally hose the deck and sidewalk, water burned out spots on the lawn. Water the flowers etc.

Thoughts?

  • The city has been increasing the charges every year since about 2012. It's gone up about 65% for water and sewer has increased too. Basically by 2015 your bill will be over double. There is no reason not to be on a meter. The city locks you in for 7 years once you install a meter

When I first bought my 2 bedroom house, my water/sewer bill was about $180 every 6 months. Now, it's about $380. I don't know what the heck happened. We are not metered. But I'm not switching. The bill is high enough. No telling what the city is going to charge in the future for a meter.
