Need advice on dealing with neighbor/dogs

Our neighbors have a very small backyard (similar to mine). They have a huge deck on the back of their house and have paved most of the yard. The problems we have are related to their 2 huge sheep herding dogs. There is literally no grass left for the dogs to relieve themselves. The dogs are never walked, but just left out in this fenced in yard to bark incessantly and pee/poop on the deck and patio. The feces will be left for days or weeks, even months on end before being cleaned up. We have asked nicely and not-so-nicely for them to clean up their yard each time the dogs are out (no more than we'd expect someone who walks their dog in the park to do and what I do EVERY DAY with my own dog!!). The smell is so horrible that I can't stand to spend any time In my own yard. Often times I have to hold my nose to walk from my garage to my back door, as I walk passed their fence. In the summer, the flies around their yard, my yard & in my house are unbearable. The thought of dealing with this all summer is making me sick to my stomach. Any advice on how to handle this situation?

  • Onahan Elementary School reviewed

I was a student at Onahan, I loved every minute i spent at the school until 7th grade. The teachers were unbelievably dedicated and friendly. The 7th and 8th grade teachers however need some work. There are some good teachers but not nearly as many as there should be. They are lazy, unorganized and not dedicated to giving their students a valuable education. I do not feel like I learned nearly as much as i should have in 7th and 8th grade. I wanted to leave the school satisfied with my education but i was not.

Does anyone remember the old convenience store on the southwest corner of Milwaukee and Devon Aves?

I grew up on the edge of Jeff Pk/Norwood Pk E in the 60's and 70's, and remember a slight hill on the corner of Milwaukee and Devon, about where the former Dominick's parking lot is today. On top of the hill was an old precursor to what we would now call a convenience store, the place you could go when the grocery stores were closed and you were out of bread or milk, or just had a taste for...

I grew up on the edge of Jeff Pk/Norwood Pk E in the 60's and 70's, and remember a slight hill on the corner of Milwaukee and Devon, about where the former Dominick's parking lot is today. On top of the hill was an old precursor to what we would now call a convenience store, the place you could go when the grocery stores were closed and you were out of bread or milk, or just had a taste for a candy bar. The store and hill were razed to make way for the Dominick's, but I recall that it seemed old, even in the 60's, and I think it had a large, illuminated clock outside above the door, musty wood floors and carried Hawthorne Mellody dairy products.

My uncle, who now lives in the area, wants to know what it was like before he moved there, and it's driving me crazy that I can't remember the name of the store! Does anybody's memory go back that far?

You're welcome Joan....I lived that way toward the end of it's days to just after the Dominick's was built. The period in between that empty lot served the needed purpose of becoming an informal gathering spot on Friday nights for NW side hot rodders.

    Was good times..... :-)

Blue Star Memorial at Harlem and Avondale

To whomever restored the Blue Star plaque it looks great. I took the flag down because it was a disgrace.

What a Good Idea!!!

Anybody notice the homemade doggie doo plastic bag dispensers secured to the trees around Onahan School??? Great thought!!! Anybody know how that came to be???

  • The girl scout troop made them for the neighbors that walk there dog's around the school. Now there should be no excuse for not picking up after there dogs. Great idea!!!

  • Our 2nd grade Brownie troop made them. Many people walk their dogs around the school without cleaning up after them. Our girls needed to earn a service patch and we came up with the idea after seeing them around Olympia Park. The girls were very excited to make them!!! Hopefully people will "get the message" and use the bags so our poor students don't have to step in doggie poop on their way to/from school. Thanks for noticing our hard work. :-)

  • Or step on doggy doo doo on the field where they have recess. I think it's a great idea and now I have a place to put my plastic bags.

60631 post Office

This post office is getting worse and worse. I went to mail a letter Monday. Even though it was simply Presidents Day all three mail boxes were overflowing as they do during the Cristmas Season. This post office is getting worse and worse. I went to mail a letter Monday. Even though it was simply Presidents Day all three mail boxes were overflowing as they do during the Cristmas Season. Nothing is going on that this should of happened. It appears that they didn;t pick up on Saturday. THIS IS NOT SAFE!!! People are mailing bills, sending out important information, I complain and complain. No one as of this point has listened. To add insult to injury today when my mail was delivered, once again, they missed the box for some of it. So now when I get my mail I not only have to check the mail box but I need to check the ground and front yard area. It is not uncommon to receive others mail tha I am at least good enough to return to the post office or proper owner. I wonder how much of my mail is in others mail boxes and not forwarded to me. I have been waiting for a $50.00 refund check for four months now that I was assured it was mailed. Have no idea where it's at. Please support our area for better postal service by filing complaints with the postal service, alderwoman, and congressman. This is really getting bad.

Roadkill at front door on 6300 block of Sayre Ave.

I recently posted that I had the best neighbors, but apparently I included one that shouldn't have been. When I opened my front door to get my newspaper this morning, I found a flattened, dead squirrel laying on the mat, with some of it's insides strewn about the front stoop. It didn't get there by some punk throwing it from a passing car, or walking down the sidewalk. This person deliberately walked up our walkway to the front entrance and...

We have done absolutely nothing to deserve this to happen, it's disgusting and cowardly. If someone has an issue with my household, ring my doorbell and tell me what I, my sister, or my 83 year old father has done to piss you off, because I am completely at a loss for a reason.

Too bad my cameras weren't recording, but they will be ...

  • I'll bet you're one of those neighbors who feed the squirrels...you do realize they are a member of the rodent family, right??? And leaving food out for any animals is never a good idea as it attracts additional unwanted rodents.
