Huboldt Park Good Whites, Blacks, And Latinos Please Monitor E.B.Rogers Park Racist Chatter.

For 3 years E.B. Rogers Park has had a culture of racism, against blacks and latinos. We believe a simple cross reference of 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore Doner list with the identity of those who make racist and homo-phobic comments will prove that 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore has taken money from racist and we want him to give it back. We also want all who have placed racist comments on E.B. Rogers Park outed includeing the C.P.D

  • LT Res Long Time Chicagoan

FYI, you can't subpoena a list of users on a site because you define them as 'racist'. Besides using the term 'racist' implies you are a bigot as there is only one race, the Human Race. You would be better served using the terms bigot or bigots.

  • Fuarain CTA rider, walker, animal person

I don't see how you expect to accomplish anything with this. Being racist and/or an internet troll is not against the law.

Mover Recommendations

My family will be moving in mid-April. I am looking for recommendations for movers to move us out of our condo - store our stuff - and then move us in to our new home 4 days later. I am debating a full service company (with trucks, movers, storage) and just movers to move into a Uhaul that I separately rent and store for 4 days. Any recommendations or other suggestions are greatly appreciated! I would love to work with a company in Humboldt Park!

  • Thank you everyone! I have The Professionals booked and found a storage spot for our moving truck while we wait to close on our new home. We are only moving about 10 blocks from the East side of the park to the North side. Humboldt Park for life!

Ticket for expired registration - can I contest?

Thanks to the diligent parking enforcement, I received a ticket for Expired Plates or Temporary Registration (Code 0976160F). While I am guilty of not affixing the sticker, I had purchased and received the sticker a few days before the expiration month. My question is that if showing evidence of renewed registration although not on display is grounds for waiver of the $60.00 ticket. Trying to get some input before I contest via mail. Any advice or past experiences will be appreciated!

If these new laws had any teeth the tickets wouldn't haven been issued. Parking enforcement will continue to write them, it's up to you to fight the ticket which you may or may not win...

Blood @ Kimball and Belden?

Walked out of my apartment today and saw a puddle of soapy water on the NW corner of Kimball and Belden. There were also bloody cloths on the sidewalk, so I was assuming the soap was from cleaning up after a crime. Anyone know what happened?

Is Chuy Garcia's Son Samuel Currently a Two Six Gang Member?

Buried in an article regarding pay for play, is a snippet regarding Garcia's son, Samuel. Samuel has extensive run in with the laws, and by his own words, is an admitted gang member for the Two Six Street Gang, operating out of Little Village and Pilsen, and featured on the popular series, Gangland.

Is this family qualified to represent Chicago?

Did the future Mayor of Chicago raise a gang member who attacks cops?

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news-chicago/7/71/351122/mayoral-challenger-garcia-backed-deal-firm-gave-son-free-legal-help

Here's more info on the notorious Two Six Street Gang. http://chicagogangs.org/index.php?pr=TWO_SIX

and a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcnFI639Tbs

  • Chicago has one of the largest gang populations in the nation and most homicides here occur because of that. Many kids have been killed for something as innocent as wearing the wrong color of clothes. To me the question is legit since the arrests happened after he turned 30 years old, if he was a minor I would of disagreed.

  • Bger East Village neighbor

I'm sure Ponce brought it up because it is being posted on sites like this. But I agree with the audience and Emanuel on this, it wasn't an appropriate line of questioning.

Coyotes in Humboldt Park PARK

As I walked my dog (on leash and picking up after her) in the Park today, a city worker was driving around stopping to tell any dog owner he saw that they had spotted coyotes in Humboldt Park Park. It sounded as if they had been aggressive towards dogs but I don't have any facts...but I thought 'terrific' the city would send someone to do so.

  • B

Wow! Coyotes in Chicago - love it! I hope the Parks Department lets them stay.

  • According to this article, coyotes have established themselves in all parts of the city, including downtown, and are helping to reduce the Canadian geese population. It is estimated that there are 2000 coyotes living in the city. And they're smart, they have even learned to wait for a green light before crossing the street - something that some humans don't ;) .

As an update, I emailed a bunch of different people and heard back from a few. The CTA forwarded my request to their Service Planning Department. It sounds like the CTA determines the need for service changes based on bus use during other times of day to ensure return on investment. I also heard from two representatives from Moreno's office -- one forwarded my message to the CTA and the other suggested talking to the Trust for Public Land (the 606 group) and the other aldermen along Armitage. I contacted all of them but haven't heard back.

New bus routes on Elston and Clybourn may be difficult, though helpful. Armitage is already a bus route, so it would be a matter of extending hours, but even that costs money in a time of CTA budget cuts.

  • Thanks for doing this. However, I have never heard of the CTA, having eliminated a bus route years ago on Elston and Clybourn, of ever reinstating one. Even though Business conditions have changed for the positive on these streets the last ten years and I think it would be helpful...

Thanks for doing this. However, I have never heard of the CTA, having eliminated a bus route years ago on Elston and Clybourn, of ever reinstating one. Even though Business conditions have changed for the positive on these streets the last ten years and I think it would be helpful to businesses on these streets to have bus service. At least the CTA should try it, and if it does not work, they could eliminate it again. As for going through your alderman, many alderman were against cancelling the Lincoln Avenue bus but it happened anyway. I think the CTA makes up it's mind, holds public hearing because it has to, and then does what it wants to anyway. For reasons unknown, why do they keep the #37 Sedgwick bus going? I have lived on the Northside for years and never used it. Those buses could be put to work on Clybourn and Elston Avenues.

Roof Deck Builder Recommendations?

We moved into our townhouse last fall, and now that winter is over we want to re-build our roof deck. There's currently a small deck (100 sq. ft) in place, but we want to replace it with one that fills the maximum allowable build-able space (approx. 400 sq. ft.). If you don't pick up that poop you might get flagged!

This topic has been addressed here ad nauseam, I don't think the offenders are reading Every Block- you know, pick up your dog poop! This afternoon, someone actually flagged a dog poop. I am not sure what to make of it- If you want to see this- take a look, I took a picture. (for some unknown reason, Everyblock pics are not going through)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/bartshore/16915159066/

  • CV in Logan Square Born and bred Sside, NWside transplant and love it

Want to stop people from leaving dog poop behind? Take a photo of the offender, put it on fliers and post them all over the neighborhood. While it is an action, a flag doesn't connect the offender to the offending act. I love my neighborhood but I am sick and tired of having to tightrope down the sidewalk (and now, the curb!) to avoid dog feces. It was a nicer place to live before Logan Square got hot and started attracting lazy and inconsiderate dog owners.

  • This is great!

Routine Traffic Stop Ended In A Police Car Chase.

Police stopped a vehicle in front of the logan square blue line, when they asked the driver to step out (Police already had his on his gun), the driver took off. He sped down Milwaukee ave and dangerously turned into the boulevard where he crashed against a parked car in front of NewWave and ended hitting a pole. They immediately handcuffed him, and gave him the medical attention he needed before they drove away.

I overheard someone say it was a stolen vehicle.

Very scary, Very real.

  • Saw all the police cars, ambulances, and the wreckage tonight and wondered what had happened but could tell from looking that it was some kind of a car chase gone awry. Thanks Stefania

18X22 ROOM FOR RENT
May 1st

I am looking for a non-smoking, peace loving, cat friendly neat individual to rent a beautiful room in an amazing Arts & Crafts building in the Fullerton and Western area; tree lined street, easy parking, tons of public trans, very safe neighborhood.

The 18X22 room is in the front of the apartment. It is very private, almost like having your own studio apartment. There is a faux fireplace, stained glass windows, ceiling fan, and the front of room is all windows, so lots of light. The apartment is on the second floor so it feels like you are in the trees. The room is large enough for sitting area, office, and bedroom area. Built-in book shelves. Beautiful!

The kitchen is huge and modernized, dish washer, walk in pantry, kitchen is furnished. The bathroom is also huge and very nice, clean, subway tiles, ceiling fan. The coin laundry is in basement. There is some storage available. OK for bike in basement, real safe. 3 units in the building, so the building is quiet. I have 2 cats. No more pets are allowed.

$650.00 per month everything included (rent, utilities, cleaning supplies etc. and housekeeping.) Phone & internet not included. $650.00 security deposit and references required. Apartment available May 1st (preferred) but could be as early as April 15th or as late as June 1st as well.

Anyone see a car wreck on Belden last night?

This is a total shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if anyone who lives on the block of Belden between Kimball and Spaulding may have happened to witness a (probably) large car that was (maybe) reddish or burgundy in color smash into the front side of my parked car?

This piece of human garbage did not leave a note, but did leave an enormous dent in my car.

You call 311 and ask for police non emergency

  • Yes - file the report with 311 (or stop at the station) and get the report number. You'll need that to file with your insurance company if you want to get it fixed. Unfortunately, unless you figure out who the culprit is, you'll be stuck with the deductible for your collision coverage (assuming you carry that).

Just voted for Chuy

At Humboldt Park Library. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. early voting is now.I don't want to hear any complaining if Rahm wins the election and you did not come out to vote. just like Bruce rauner is cutting all the social programs because we did not come out to vote. let's put a stop to that practice tag you're it!!!

  • Bger-I certainly don't dispute that "free" education is a lofty and admirable goal that may indeed pay long term dividends. My problem with Rahm is that he's contradicting himself on funding for those lofty and admirable goals. One can not simultaneously argue for adding costs while slamming an opponent for potentially adding costs, in my view at least. Longer days for kids involve longer days for school staff. Added college students that wouldn't have otherwise been there also involves added staff--unless the current staff have their classes packed ever larger.

Each candidate brings their own priorities. CPS is a problem for this city. When people with school age kids feel they need to move to the suburbs, not because they don't want to raise kids in the city, but because they can't afford private schools and don't trust public schools, that's a huge problem. When you have a 50 % graduation rate (now 72%), that's a bad signal for businesses who are looking to locate here. Chuy's priorities seem to be cops on the street and eliminating red light cameras, both of which will add to an existing deficit. As I said it's about priorities.

New Friends of the Library group for Logan Square

Hi all,
The new Friends of the Library for the Logan Square branch is holding its second meeting this Thursday at 6:30, in the library's conference room. We're looking for ideas, volunteers, people who love their library and want to make it better. We have a small group that turned out for our first meeting! Please leave me a note if you're interested, and find us on Facebook (for which we're going to start adding content soon!).

  • I can't make the Thursday meeting, but would like to be kept up todate. Please email me at franksfelicia@gmail.com
