AFS-USA, the world’s oldest and largest student exchange organization, is pleased to offer students in the Chicago area with an exclusive new scholarship opportunity. Any student from Chicago-area school who is accepted to any AFS program will receive an automatic scholarship of at least $1000!
All students from Chicago-area schools are encouraged to apply for these merit and need based scholarships in addition to the automatic scholarship of at least $1000.
Through AFS, you can spend as few as two weeks or a full academic year abroad. And, as the largest organization of its kind in the world, there are more countries and themes to choose from than you could ever imagine.
Unlike many programs, all AFS experiences include international travel, insurance, and orientations to make sure you’re properly prepared for your adventure.
AFS programs and scholarships are available to anyone eligible for an AFS program. And, there are programs for students from age 13-18, freshman to senior!
Make sure that when you apply for college (or, in the future, for your dream job), you can state on your application that “I was an AFS’er!” As the most recognized leader in student exchange, you’ll make an important and immediate impression that may just make the difference you need. Plus, you’ll already have the background colleges and employers look for in global competency and cross-cultural communication – critical skills for working in today’s global economy!
AFS (and our more than 130 Greater Chicago-area volunteers) is proud of its tradition of providing global experiences to students and families in the area. For more information, visit our website at www.afsusa.org today or call 1-800-AFS-INFO.

Unfortunately the message category is an EB "field" that is required, but there is no corresponding category although there certainly should be.

I've always wondered about this particular issue, but try as I may have been unable to turn up an answer. If you are muted by another user/poster and that user's/poster's account is terminated by EB, is the number of times you have been muted get reduced accordingly? When an account is no longer active, mutes from an "inactive user" should no longer be tallied since such mutes are no longer applicable. If this is not automatically done, it is a feature that should be implemented by EB. I hope a moderator will chime in and shed some light on this issue.

had to work within the limitations imposed by EveryBlock. It is difficult to determine where to even post this. Chicago-wide would be OK, but that is not an option. It would also be helpful if there was an applicable category, but there isn't. Then a URL (link) is required, but this applies to all of EB so I use the home page link (www.everyblock.com)

There are users/posters who have violated EB community guidelines and consequently had their accounts terminated. A mute count from an inactive user is irrelevant. When a user's/poster's account is terminated, all EB users who have been muted should have their mute count adjusted/reduced accordingly. I put in a request to have this feature implemented. I received an email from an EB feedback staff member who indicated that they passed my suggestion onto the EB development team.

  • Please visit the link below which explains how participatory budgeting works. It is not one individual or a select group making the decision; the decisions are made by the residents of the ward if they want to participate, as Dennis explained. The 39th Ward does not practice participatory budgeting but I would like to see a change. I would like to see the diiferent neighborhoods in the ward become more integrated which may be accomplished if participatory budgeting was practiced.

  • Hello Broom Hilda,

"It seems to me that if any memorial was to be erected in Chicago and influenced by Chicago politicians then it should memorialize Chicago Firefighters and Police Officers."

But not veterans? Why the prejudice against veterans?
