New legislation could restore prayer in public schools

Kudos to state Reps. Mary Flowers and LaShawn Ford for introducing House Bill 0165, which would amend the Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act, and allow prayer in all Illinois public schools.

Flowers was also instrumental in getting Chicago Public Schools to create an African American Studies program for all high school students in 2014, which was mandated by a state law she sponsored more than 20 years ago.

16th Ward Run -Off

Aldermanic Run-Off - Excerpt from Chicago Sun-Times Endorsement: Coleman is the daughter of Shirley Coleman. But during an interview, she was unfamiliar with her own answers and was woefully uninformed. Her mother accompanied her and tried to speak up during the interview. Foulkes is the stronger candidate and is endorsed.

Lowering my cable tv bill.

We just finished renovations and are finally moving home. Before we do, we could use your advice. We've been paying almost $180 for TV & Internet together through cable. We just finished renovations and are finally moving home. Before we do, we could use your advice. We've been paying almost $180 for TV & Internet together through cable. We don't watch much TV, mostly news and live sports, and we use Netflix all the time. I've been asking friends and neighbors to see who they use for service.

My sister shared a site she found through ND that recommends the right TV service based on channels you want:www.10channels.com. It's telling me a bundle from AT&T would be $50 less each month for the next year. The Internet speed looks fast. There's another good offer from DIRECT if we want a satellite.

Before I call, has anybody tried AT&T or a satellite? If so, how is the connection and speed? Does heavy rain make a difference? Thank you for your help :-)

  • Direct tv is great, service is interrupted during heavy hail like rain.

  • Carol R A concerned Mom & citizen.

I have had att u verse for over 8 years & It works fine for my family. No problems with speed or connections. HOwever, after the promotional price expires, it's pretty expensive. I'm looking for a change too, we're just trying to finish watching all the programs we have stored on the dvr before we switch. Lol!

AT&T Versus Comcast Internet/cable?

I am looking into lowering my cable TV/Internet Bill. I just used 10channels.com to find the lowest priced package/provider for what I want. I am going to either switch to AT&T or lower my package level with Comcast. Any thoughts or advice you have would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Kristen L. I am in the same low and moderate income renter category as you are.

Gentrification is a planning strategy being implemented by wealthy plutocrats, from the top down, many of which are associated with the University of Chicago, which has through control of established elected officials been re-gentrifying both Hyde Park and Bronzeville.

Why are some schools not entitled to libraries and librarians?

What Chuy noted in the first debate is true: nearly 50 percent of CPS schools do not have a librarian on staff, a tragedy in our information-based ecnomy. Librarians are degreed teachers who are trained in teaching students how to find, interpret and share information. Libby Elementary in Englewood/New City is considering discontinuing its program. What about your school? Contact your school and Local School Council and insist that a library and librarian be a priority.
