Excerpt from Englewood Neighborhood TIF 10 year Report about job creation -

"Permanent job creation associated with private, non-residential and completed TIF-supported projects (see Redevelopment Agreement Projects in Exhibit 8) can be estimated using industry benchmarks and other available sources. The Englewood Neighborhood RPA currently does not have any completed private projects, therefore no permanent job creation has been estimated to occur between 2001 and 2011."

So in 10 years we have not secured permanent job creation in an area with high crime and increasing unemployment rates? Is everyone to blame for this mess? Our Mayor? Alderman? Churches? Residents? Organizations? Etc? How can we as the community demand that these funds be put to good use?

Sounds like a community meeting is in order. Participatory Budgeting gets input from the entire community on proposed projects. RFP's from CBO's and faith based institutions will provide ideas and programs. Using funds to provide job training and full and part-time positions in violence prevention would support the community.

RIP off Avenue: If it wasn't so serious, it would be laughable.....TIF in the Hood! Its just not an Englewood problem. Year in and year out, bogus politically connected contracts are let for non existent projects, money ate up and nothing to show for it. The few things that you do see being worked on, is surrounded by workers with out of state license plates on their cars. I think I got the biggest kick out of the CTA red line do over, you know the red line with the majority stops and users in the Black neighborhoods, the contracted community consultant for this program at a cost of $250,000.00 was given to a White woman by the name of Sandi Llano, ain't that a kicker. We still don't have Bobby Rush's Community Tech Center, can't seen to find the $1 million of SBC money or the $175,000.00 from the State, then there's Jesse Brunt and his cable companies fraud another multi million dollar walk away project. There the 2 white guys Giovenco and Palmer who where able to successfully secure $8 Mil in sub-contracts by fending as a minority own business, they hired some sap Black guy as the pasty....Black guy Jerome Mayes pocketed $15K, Porter got $1.8 Mil, Giovenco walked with $800,00.00, even when stealing black guy walk away with the crumbs. Rep. Will Davis (d) wife Jaclin Davis took in a salary of $137,000.00 for the Neighborhood Initiative Program, than we had Regina and Ron Evan and their "We are our brothers keeper" program, go down in flame, when the "MONEY got Funny)! I mean this stuff goes on and on, where its going to stop, nobody knows!

  • imagine imagine all the people living life in peace

This is what Rahmbo calls cleaning up the neighborhood. buying people off and building a railroad.....The problem of Englewood solved! It no longer exists!

Website Helps Neighbors Buy Vacant Lots for $1

It was big news in Greater Englewood in March when the City of Chicago announced that it would begin a pilot Large Lot Program that allowed nearby homeowners, block clubs and nonprofit groups to buy vacant lots for just $1.

But the application deadline is April 21 and there are a lot of steps in the process, from identifying the available lots to establishing eligibility and then filing the application.

Now there's an app for that: http://largelots.org

Excellent question about property taxes. The good programmers at DataMade have added a link to property tax data, in response to this thread, but since the lots have been city owned they show up with $0 property tax liability.

We'll have to look to the city and county to provide some guidance on this, as it's a valid question. One wouldn't take on a property without knowing the potential tax liability; it would be like buying a car without thinking about the gas mileage.

Large Lots was featured on ABC7 News tonight, focusing on plans to buy three lots by Tina Harbin and the Harvard Yale Homeowners Assn. More than 150 people have applied for the $1 lots.
