Englewood residents attended a Saturday community meeting with sixth ward aldermanic candidate Richard Wooten and discussed local issues such as crime, housing, mental health, jobs, public schools, and economic development.

Man killed, 12 others hurt in Friday shootings

Two hours before that, a 35-year-old man was shot in the ankle in Englewood. The shooting happened at 6:25 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Sangamon, police said. He took himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, but police did not immediately know his condition.

The fatal shooting happened about 4:40 p.m. in Little Village. Johnny Coria, 19, was walking in the 3000 block of South Kedvale when someone walked up and opened fire, police said.

About 9:50 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest in the 5100 block of South Aberdeen, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital but his condition wasn't immediately known.

A 16-year-old girl was shot at 9:48 p.m. in the 3500 block of South Rhodes, police said. She was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in serious condition.

Ninety minutes earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot in the back in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. The shooting happened at 8:35 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Augusta, and he took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said. His condition was unknown.

A South Chicago neighborhood shooting left a 24-year-old man wounded about 5:08 p.m., police said. The shooting happened in the 8200 block of South Saginaw but police didn't immediately provide further information.

Two men, ages 22 and 25, were shot on the Far South Side about 4:45 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Lowe. The younger man was shot in the buttocks and the older man in the lower back, police said. They were taken to Christ Medical Center and their conditions were stabilized.

Earlier Friday afternoon, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in Austin on the West Side. The shooting happened about 2:20 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Monroe, police said. The man, who police said has documented gang ties, was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.

A 37-year-old was shot in the back and arm about 10:10 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Loomis, police said. He was taken to Christ in serious condition.

About 4:20 a.m., a 37-year-old man walked into Rush University Medical Center at 4:22 a.m. with a graze wound to the abdomen, police said. He told said he was shot in the 700 block of West 19th Place, but was otherwise uncooperative, police said.

A 36-year-old man was standing outside Sound-Bar, 226 W. Ontario, at 3:50 a.m. when someone walked up and fired shots, striking him in the back, police said.

1 dead, 12 injured in daytime Chicago shootings

At 6:23 p.m. a 35-year-old man was shot in the ankle on the 5700 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man managed to take himself to St. Bernard Hospital where his condition had stabilized.

The fatal shooting happened at 4:35 p.m. on the 3000 block of South Kedvale Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago police spokesman Thomas Sweeney.

The 17-year-old was shot in the chest in the 5100 block of South Aberdeen Street, Gaines said, citing preliminary information.

She was shot in the buttock in the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, Gaines said.

The man was shot in his right shoulder in the 5600 block of West Augusta Boulevard, Gaines said.

At 5:08 p.m. a 24-year-old man was shot on the 8200 block of South Sangamon Street in the Greshamn neighborhood, police said. The man was taken to an area hospital where his condition had stabilized, police said.

At about 5:07 p.m. on the 9500 block of South Halsted Street in the Brainerd neighborhood a 30-year-old man was shot in the leg in a possible robbery, police said. The man, who is a security guard, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where his condition had stabilized, police said.

At 4:44 p.m., two men were shot as they sat in a vehicle on the 11800 block of South Lowe Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood, Sweeney said.

At 2:20 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Monroe Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood someone shot a 23-year-old man in the leg, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.

Another shooting happened earlier, about 12:45 p.m., in an alley on the 8900 block of South Exchange Avenue in South Chicago, according to Chicago Police News Affairs officials.

That shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. on the 1300 block of West 80th Street, said police.

Police: 2 killed, 6 wounded in Monday shootings on South, West sides

About 11:40 a.m., Shamar Thompson was walking in the 5800 block of South Morgan when someone fired shots at him from a passing dark red van, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Thompson, of the 5500 block of South Morgan, was shot in the back and leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

A 23-year-old man and another person were approached by three people as they got out of a parked vehicle in the 700 block of North Kedzie, police said. The Richard M. Daley-West Humboldt Chicago Public Library branch is at 733 N. Kedzie.
