No, none of the examples in that report are especially similar to the proposed infrastructure trust. They were all economic development agency PPPs.

Not saying that I think the infrastructure trust concept is a good idea, but it is rather different from the examples discussed in that report.

Infrastructure Trust - Parking Meters on Steroids

So now the Mayor wants to "monetize" city assets. This something that really hasn't been talked much about, much like the parking meter deal, speed cameras, proposed midway sale etc. I sense a trend................

The bottom line is private investment requires a return on their money. Mr 1% has not explained how they're going to get paid back, at what rate and for how long. He also hasn't explained what's wrong with using bonds like we've always done.

Russ, I agree. It is up to us to put pressure on our alderman if we feel like the infrastructure plan is not beneficial. Will the alderman listen to their constituents or just continue trying to win favor with Rahm?

Russ, I agree. It is up to us to put pressure on our alderman if we feel like the infrastructure plan is not beneficial. Will the alderman listen to their constituents or just continue trying to win favor with Rahm?

And Alex, I agree! In the last committeeman election, I believe Moreno won with 1,800 something votes in a ward that probably has well over 20X that number of people. Is Moreno speaking for his constituents when he puts one of the largest attraction in Logan Square into deleterious impact/public nuisance process, which could adversely impact surrounding businesses as well as turns a spotlight on Moreno's Ties to a neighboring club which has 10X the amount of crime and political connections than the Congress?

There was a shooting report just across the lot from that club this past Sunday. It is under investigation. Who is the nuisance? Gangbangers who shoot and fight or youths from suburbia and colleges who listen to electronic DJ music which is sweeping the industry and even playing a larger role in Lallopalooza this year?

A 17 y.o was shot in head and died on dance floor at that club in 2009, shortly after Blagos campaign adviser who allegedly was gonna sign a contract that day to be owner through his mistress allegedly overdosed on drugs and died.

In the last mayoral election, which despite being the 1st w/ no Daley on ballot in years, there was still very low turnout. At that time I calculated it, and it came out to about 7% of our city's pop. who voted and then I think it was like 4 or 5% who voted for Rahm. The Sun Times headline was a quote from Rahm saying the people have spoken. Um no, 5% of people have spoken. Everyone talks about 99% vs. 1% and if this keeps up, our political infrastructure will join banks and millionares in being part of the 1%. Back to the original topic, if citizens don't like the infrastructure plan we need to make a push through our aldermen, and hopefully enough will have the chutzpah to vote against it.

Problem Liquor Stores and the Mayor

The Mayor announced today that he is ordering a "crack down" on liquor stores that become magnets for crime. It is past time because the "Deleterious Impact" process is very drawn out and only partially effective. We in the 30th ward have had plenty of experience with it. There is one GAPING loophole re liquor stores that needs to be closed: It is illegal to sell a liquor license in Chicago. The way around that is to issue the license to a business, not a person. That person adds a new "director" to the board of directors and then "resigns". Voila! The license has been transferred from one person to another with zero oversight, zero neighborhood input, zero anything. It is a legal dodge, Chicago style, and it stinks.

  • Jacko Z just livin' in the hood

Ed, I do understand your nuissance issue and symphasise with that. "this board of directors thing" you describe is not the issue. Changing officers in a corp that holds a liquor license in the city of Chi is an involved process and requires a serious amount of legal documentation and verification. The issue? Your alderman (but you knew that), and the retailer. Your use of the DIO is correct. Yes it takes time and aggravation. Good luck and I mean that in a positive way.

  • Thanks, Jacko Z, I do appreciate your empathy. Ald. Reboyras did a disservice to those of us who had been working so tirelessly to improve the neighborhood. He was fully aware of the pending sale and, even though he attended our neighborhood meetings, he said nothing about it. At one...

Thanks, Jacko Z, I do appreciate your empathy. Ald. Reboyras did a disservice to those of us who had been working so tirelessly to improve the neighborhood. He was fully aware of the pending sale and, even though he attended our neighborhood meetings, he said nothing about it. At one point after the new neon sign went up, I managed to get the Chicago liquor commissioner on the telephone personally, and he flat-out denied that a sale had taken place. "This happens all the time", I recall him saying. That, Jacko Z, is a dodge. A sale certainly did take place. What the alderman, the liquor commissioner and the store owners managed to do was hide the reality. Reboyras is vice-chairman of the Chicago Business License committee at City Hall. I'm just saying.

Help! Lost tan domestic short hair in Bucktown!

Neighbors! I kindly ask your assistance in finding my male cat who went missing this past Friday, April 6th. Max was last seen around Damen and North and is very approachable and friendly. He is tan with black stripes on his legs and tail, and he has a very high-pitched meow. He is very dearly missed so any news, sightings, or temporary care of him would be appreciated! Reward offered if found!

  • I saw a cat who looked like Max late Sunday morning on Crystal just west of Damen. He/she was lounging on the sidewalk & very friendly. Didn't seem lost, but no owners were around outside.

  • Thank you everyone for your responses...we are doing everything we can to find him and looking around each area where there was a potential sighting. Max is still missing, so any additional information is greatly appreciated!

Innocent dog attacked by two pitbulls on the Boulevard

http://shawnimal.com/post/19001088464/remmys-recovery-day-0 has the details... but basically, Shawn was walking his dog Remmy on the boulevard and two pitbulls attacked it.

The owner flat out said "they don't attack people, they only attack dogs"... !??!?! Alarming and oh so sad.

I am posting this because we need to be aware and make sure things like this don't happen! But, if you want to pitch in ($9500 in vet bills) you can do so at http://remmy.chipin.com/remmys-recovery-fund.

Either way, be on the lookout.

  • FYI, to all, I love pitties and am concerned when they are in an irresponsible owner's hands.

I definitely don't want to state that he IS involved in dog fighting but rather that the incident/police report should be brought to the attention of the Animal Crimes Unit so if they feel it is worth following up, they will. They are set up to investigate animal abuse and cruelty, they are trying to help the animals. If this is part of a pattern they would be likely to know.
Communication between departments is really lacking. I helped a woman recover her stolen dog this winter and she had contact with the animal crimes unit but only after her case was brought to their attention by a neighborhood policeman.

Also, I must stress, I'm not blaming the dogs here, if anything, I'd like them to be helped if they are in an abusive situation.
And yes, sometimes dogs just have their own issues my last rescue was a true biter, a dachshund with strong jaws that could do serious damage. He was always leashed and I exercised due caution around other people/dogs.

    HotRocksBand
I could get the name of the person that contacted the woman I mentioned above whose dog was stolen or I'd go back into the web and get the info for reporting suspected animal abuse. In both cases I'd fax or give them the police report number and just say I want to make sure that the dogs are not being abused in any way. Anti-Cruelty Society also has there own group of folks that investigate situations and they refer to police when needed.

  • I totally agree that he should be investigated and will go even further to say that his dogs should be takin away. Hopefully the dogs will end up in the hands of someone who will love them and work with them to correct their aggressive behaviors

Stolen vehicle alert

My friends car was stolen a few days ago in Logan Square. It is a blue 4 door Cutlass Sierra.License plate N21 8352.A police report was made.Just thought I would post in case anyone sees it just parked on a street somewhere.Sometimes cars sit for weeks or even months without moving and nobody calls it in.Thanks EB friends.

  • gerigirl I live and breathe this city!

@chicago girl......Just to let you know.....this is being posted in SPAM....So perhaps you can re-post....so many people just delete their spam-mail without looking....I don't know why so much of EB ends up in spam....but your message needs to be seen....

  • Y_2_K I aspire to be who I am.

    FYI,

My car was stolen twice in the past year, once from Wicker Park area, once from Drake/Wrightwood. In BOTH instances, it was recovered less than a mile away. No joke. I'd say get on foot, in a car, or on a bike and scour every street within 2 square miles. I have a rather POS 1995 Saturn (new engine but that's not obvious), IE not something really worth stealing. If your car is an older model its possible it was just stupid kids joyriding cars.

    Good Luck.
