If you don't pick up that poop you might get flagged!

This topic has been addressed here ad nauseam, I don't think the offenders are reading Every Block- you know, pick up your dog poop! This afternoon, someone actually flagged a dog poop. I am not sure what to make of it- If you want to see this- take a look, I took a picture. (for some unknown reason, Everyblock pics are not going through)

HAHAHA OMG I've been wanting to do that for over a year, but worried I'd get in trouble for littering. I'm so glad that someone is doing it though! I like that it's bright so you notice it and don't step in it, and it's cute and funny! LOVE THIS.

Water Bill

I know this has been a recent topic, but my (metered) water bill arrived today. Last March, my water bill was $83.40. This March, the bill is $177.49! I sure hope my tenants understand when they get a big increase in rent this year. And no, I don't have any leaks.

@cavollick is this water bill monthly for you or 3 months. Please let me know. My bill came around 435.0 this time for I think like for every 3-4 months.

The 2nd Community Meeting for the old Max Gerber Project (The Two Towers), at 2293 N. Milwaukee Ave, will be Monday, March 30th, at the Haas Park Fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m .

The last meeting was packed and was originally proposed to add 253 rental units in the area near the California L station - that's on top of 52 now permitted at 2340 N. California and 120 planned to open in Spring 2016 at 2211 N. Milwaukee.

TOD dwellers will have visitors who drive cars. Congress Theater will be bringing in traffic - capacity is what again? 4,000?

how will neighbors on intersecting blocks be affected?

According to police, the suspect is between 18 and 30 years old, stands around 5-foot-11 and weighs about 165 pounds.

In one of the incidents, the man was wearing a dark sweatshirt with pink lettering of the phrase "We Trippy Mane," blue jeans, beige boots and earrings in both ears, police said.

Where to sell used mattresses?

My middle-aged mother is moving to a smaller apartment this weekend and no longer wants, needs, or has space for her queen sized mattress and bed frame. I don't really want to go the craigslist route because waiting for a legit buyer (as opposed to a cashiers check scammer) and then trying to coordinate pick up is more of a hassle than I'm willing to deal with this weekend. I know there are used mattress stores but…? can't seem to find much info on getting rid of them, only buying them. It's a decent quality mattress, about 14 years old, cats and dogs in home. Suggestions?

  • If the condition is as good as you say, then why not try to donate to a women's shelter or church? Why throw it out if it can still be used by someone? I like to donate to the Heartland Alliance or Deborah's Place.

  • Goodwill doesn't even accept used mattresses so I highly doubt any stores do this. I frequent thrift stores and antique stores and have never seen anyone selling a USED mattress, let alone one that is 14 years old. Put it in the alley and call it a day.

Development around Kedzie/Armitage?

Does anyone know what's happening in the building across from Scofflaw (MuveMusic building) on the NW corner of Kedzie and Armitage? My boyfriend received a hint from someone at Scofflaw that "something good" was coming, but no more details were offered. I also wondered if anyone had heard any plans about anything coming into the other vacant buildings on the north side of Armitage in that general area (for example, there are a few vacant storefronts between the cleaners and Walgreens, east of Kedzie)?

Catalytic Converter Theft

Caution Catalytic Converter theft! I got in the car this morning, parked on 2200 Hoyne across the street from the school, at 5:30AM and found the car running really loud. Took it to Chevy dealer in Lincoln Park on Norht and it's $1200 to fix the stolen Catalytic Converter.

  • Jon Banks supervisor banks

They can pull a catalytic converter from a vehicle in about 4-5 minutes. I've watched them do it in broad daylight. A vehicle pulls up next to the target car, the passenger slips out, removes the catalytic converter and hops back in the vehicle. It's so fast they don't park their vehicle, they just pull up next to the target car. Now if they could put that talent to good use.....

In my experience they will come back for your converter so take as many precautions as you can. I didn't have the money to buy the alarm and the cat clamp the first two times it happened. The last time it happened was two days after my wedding....so I used some of that money to pay for it.

It was also $2000 to get my particular converter replaced. Now I hear it's down to $1200.

So this won't be have 'SRO' /single room occupancy zoning. And to me the units are not very MICRO...or cheep. (I think the article might be mixing up the 1000sqft 2 bedroom with the 1500sqft 1 bedroom).

To me this seems like a good fit for a busy corner right by the El. This should help spread the revitalization of Milwaukee Ave further northwest.

  • Yeah there is a huge difference between having the cash and actually affording those apartments. I LOL'd at the part in the article where they suggested these were for the younger millennials... Was I the only one who didn't graduate college debt free with a $60k a year job right off the bat? I'm over 30 and couldn't afford one of these studios. Good grief. I guess I'll show myself out, Logan.

  • Alan.. You're probably wrong.

Personally, I would NEVER pay anything close to that. I mean, my condo is half that and 1.5x the size (lol it's small) of that. But hey, it's not for everyone. Would you rather have this person rent one of these new ones and spend there cash here or take up some of the rental stock that's already dwindling as that's their only option in the area and force someone out of a cheaper apt?

The reason why I need to find her a new forever home is that she **can not be around kids, especially crazy toddlers. When around little kids she gets scared which leads her to become aggressive towards them. But with that said... she is AMAZING with adults. She is a little timid and needs a time to get to know you.

Mulch by the truck load

Are there any places nearby that sell mulch by the truck load? Or is there a way to rent a truck (Home Depot) and go get a truckload of mulch? Our building has a mulch bed that runs the entire parkway of a half block. We've had the outfit that mows our tiny yards install and refill it in the past, but wouldn't mind doing it myself if the economics are right. And I've looked into going to Home Depot, or something similar, and buying by the bag and that did not seem like a reasonable option.

  • I've got some! Happy to share. Email me, elsbeth cool at gmail dot com.

  • If you still need one, I can split mine too. The first time I started brewing I used one of the kits from Dill Pickle with very poor results. It's much better to start with a gifted SCOBY from an established brew. Let me know if you're interested.

Would love to hear your stories about who our community goes out of its way to help each other and make things better, even if that’s one person at a time with some small gesture.

I live on the 2300 block of North Maplewood. There is a gentlemen that has been snow blowing my sidewalk as well as other neighbors on this block. I have no idea who he is but God bless you!

Help me report 3510 W. Lyndale to the authorities.

The good neighbors at 3510 W. The good neighbors at 3510 W. Lyndale have a pipe coming out of the second floor that runs down the house, through the back yard, and out into the middle of the alley (the alley between Lyndale and Belden, between St. Luis and Drake). The pipe is allowing some enterprising soul to dispose of waste water without tapping into the city sewer. They are basically dumping their sewage into the alley, which is why there are constantly filthy puddles of water all the way down the east end of that alley, no matter how dry the weather.

If you happen to live at a property that backs up against that alley, please call 311 to report these clowns. I've already reported them, but generally the more complaints the city receives, the faster the issue will be resolved.

If you go to the top of the Everyblock page, the toolbar has a "show only" menu - if you click "Open 311 service requests" it gives you a list of some, but not all, service requests in your followed neighborhoods. It doesn't seem to show them for all city services, but it might be a good place to start.

My old neighbors had the same setup, they did their own construction in the basement and moved the washer and dryer, then rigged a PVC pipe to have the water flow out the side of their house into the rain gutter drain on the side of our house/their house and we were flooded with dirty soapy water every time they did laundry. That's what's going on here. I bet they need a new sump pump because water isn't getting pushed out properly and maybe they can't afford it or just don't know any better.
