If you don't pick up that poop you might get flagged!

This topic has been addressed here ad nauseam, I don't think the offenders are reading Every Block- you know, pick up your dog poop! This afternoon, someone actually flagged a dog poop. I am not sure what to make of it- If you want to see this- take a look, I took a picture. (for some unknown reason, Everyblock pics are not going through)

5 story 'Micro' apartment building approved for 2328 N. Milwaukee Ave

So this won't be have 'SRO' /single room occupancy zoning. And to me the units are not very MICRO...or cheep. (I think the article might be mixing up the 1000sqft 2 bedroom with the 1500sqft 1 bedroom).

To me this seems like a good fit for a busy corner right by the El. This should help spread the revitalization of Milwaukee Ave further northwest.

  • Alan.. You're probably wrong.

A 23 year old might not, a 25-30yr old single "young professional" would pay that much to be near all the "cool" bars and be right by the train to get to work. I'd never pay that much but people certainly will.

Catalytic Converter Theft

Caution Catalytic Converter theft! I got in the car this morning, parked on 2200 Hoyne across the street from the school, at 5:30AM and found the car running really loud. Took it to Chevy dealer in Lincoln Park on Norht and it's $1200 to fix the stolen Catalytic Converter.

I witnessed the thieves in action in the 1800 block of W. Dickens at 4:00 am this morning (Dickens and Wolcott), so it sounds like they were making the rounds. I was able to get 911 on the line while they were completing the theft, but by the time a patrol car responded they were long gone. It was three men (Caucasian or Hispanic) who looked to be in their early 20s, slim/average build wearing black hoodies. They were driving a black 4 door Chevy sedan (maybe a Cruze or Malibu). I couldn't see the plates. They pull up next to the target car and two get out, one climbs under the car while the other stands between the cars as a lookout. Then the noise starts - sounds like a power/reciprocating hack saw cutting through a sheet of metal (that's what woke me up). They finish the job, throw the converter in their trunk and drive off. It probably took them less than 5 minutes.

Beautiful place. Indoor seating with huge wall of glass doors that open facing the Lake and a nice stone patio outdoors. One thing though: Because it's a park building, random people can come through to use the bathrooms, so you need to keep that in mind :) It's been awhile, so just check out current rules/regs on the Chicago Park District Website. http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/Burnham-Park/

Mulch by the truck load

Are there any places nearby that sell mulch by the truck load? Or is there a way to rent a truck (Home Depot) and go get a truckload of mulch? Our building has a mulch bed that runs the entire parkway of a half block. We've had the outfit that mows our tiny yards install and refill it in the past, but wouldn't mind doing it myself if the economics are right. And I've looked into going to Home Depot, or something similar, and buying by the bag and that did not seem like a reasonable option.

The 2nd Community Meeting for the old Max Gerber Project (The Two Towers), at 2293 N. Milwaukee Ave, will be Monday, March 30th, at the Haas Park Fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m .

The last meeting was packed and was originally proposed to add 253 rental units in the area near the California L station - that's on top of 52 now permitted at 2340 N. California and 120 planned to open in Spring 2016 at 2211 N. Milwaukee.

Unless he's drastically changed his plan, this developer is asking for an upzone, which is not the same thing as TOD. He's also asking for even less parking than the TOD law provides.

  • LSNA is spreading the word: http://www.lsna.net/calendar/5011

"In addition to concerns about density and precedent, LSNA leaders noted that the "affordable units" in the October plan were not actually affordable...and the units were not large enough for families."

I want to thank you for your support in the municipal elections in February as I was able to work with you to gain 79% of the vote in the 32nd Ward vote. The elected school board issue also tallied about 83% of the vote.

Found a young male grey tabby on our porch this morning. Collar but no tags. Very friendly, but seemed scared to be outside. We are keeping him safe inside.

  • Just this morning, I brought a friendly stray, which had been beat to a bloody pulp, possibly by a dog or another cat, into the Tree House clinic. They're transferring him to an ER. Make no mistake, any outdoor cat, feral or someone's pet, can suffer an excruciating plight.

  • time and again, it's posters that work...put on the corner lamp posts and in neighbors' doors. the owner -- or someone who recognizes the cat and knows who it belongs to -- may contact you. a lot of older pet owners are not looking online...

She is house trained, great on a Leash, loves long walks (on the beach). Loves jumping and running at the forest preserve and listens well off lease. She will do well in a home with other dogs.

The reason why I need to find her a new forever home is that she **can not be around kids, especially crazy toddlers. When around little kids she gets scared which leads her to become aggressive towards them. But with that said... she is AMAZING with adults. She is a little timid and needs a time to get to know you.

The pipe is allowing some enterprising soul to dispose of waste water without tapping into the city sewer. They are basically dumping their sewage into the alley, which is why there are constantly filthy puddles of water all the way down the east end of that alley, no matter how dry the weather.

If you happen to live at a property that backs up against that alley, please call 311 to report these clowns. I've already reported them, but generally the more complaints the city receives, the faster the issue will be resolved.

They've arrested a number of car, tire, and catalytic converter thieves. One just a few blocks west of me, they were able to nab the guy because he was in the middle of a theft when the cops happened to stop there.Infuriating and frustrating as it is, this is a misdemeanor crime. Arrestees are given community service and a fine. That's if the prosecution can get the victim to testify, which is often a problem of the thieves have gang connections, and it all hinges on the police happening to be at the right car at the right time.

This doesn't just happen in our district - I just sent an email to alderman Mell's chief of staff asking that she co-sponsor an ordinance the the alderman from the 12th district is promoting. It would make it illegal for these "recycling" plants to buy catalytic converters. I'd encourage others too look up the proposed ordinance and ask your alderman to support it.
I've lived in my house here 15 years. The "recycling" plant gets run out of Bucktown, opens up on Campbell, and suddenly grills are getting stolen, bikes disappearing, there's not a downspout on any house for blocks because they've all been stolen. Now it's catalytic converters - and I assume they're selling the tires to some kind of used tire dealer. As long as it's easy for them to sell what they've stolen, the thefts will not stop.

  • Oh no! We also had our tires stolen off of our Honda Civic last month. There have been multiple catalytic converter thefts on our block.

It looks like this is the ordinance, introduced last week:

Ugh. Just great. Stupid gang shootings. It's bad enough that they shoot each other senselessly but when they endanger others?! Shooting someone when they are driving?! UGH.
