Should Oak Park allow taverns on North Avenue?

Oak Park is now considering whether to allow taverns (serving no food, just liquor) for the first time. (Restaurants are already allowed to serve liquor, even if the customer didn't order food. Taverns aren't allowed on the Chicago side of North Ave.) Do you think taverns should be allowed on North Avenue in Oak Park? Please let us know what you think.

Of course they will. Thank you.

Fundraiser 36th Ward Candidate

Time for one part of the election process I am not thrilled with, but if we are to compete with the those who have decide to make a career out of politics rather than a calling it is a necessary evil. So I am having a fundraiser this Thursday Nov. 20th from 7pm to 10pm at 2514 W. Fullerton. Join us for an evening of food, drink and discussions of the vision we have for the 36th Ward.Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Frank 773 742-9975 or Paloma at 773 600-2549. Thanks in advance and look forward to meeting everyone.

So much to say, but I will keep it as succinct as possible. First and foremost the Alderman's position should be a conduit for the constituents of his Ward to the Mayor. That being said having an open and accessible Alderman is paramount. There should be avenues for the free flow of thoughts and concern on a regular basis,so monthly town hall meetings.are a must, Large city projects that would impact our ward should have citizen committees, for those that want to be more involved, to more deeply explore the impact it would have on our constituents.
More concrete concerns not in any order of importance:
Crime- There is a definite need for more police, but there is also a need of some form of intervention and education programs to help offer alternatives choices and to try to intercede at an early age.
Education- We have severe overcrowding issues within the ward that need addressing and adding charter schools is not the answer. If there are funds available they should be directed to CPS first and foremost.
Ward infrastructure- Menu money should be used where it is needed the most. On this I would like to see a ward committee to address and ranked the needs of the ward through some sort of matrix system.
Economics- As a prior small business owner I would like to see a more streamlined system devoid of the red tape that tends to be a hindrance to small business owners. If we address the 3 prior points I believe that we would present a more attractive environment to small business.
And most important term limits. If elected I will push for term limits and regardless of that outcome I will serve no more than 2 terms. There needs to be room for new ideas and a fresh set of eyes,
Well so much or being succinct, I apologize. There so much more to be discussed so I hope you stop in on Thursday and continue our talk. If not, there will be other opportunities in the near future.

Mars Metra Stop Vandal

Just a warning to Metra parkers. My car was apparently unlocked yesterday (I blame the remote lock) while parked on Shakespeare near the Mars stop. Someone let themselves in and pulled my stereo. Had to have happened in broad daylight. Make sure your cars are secure! Someone is watching.

Thank You Armed Forces

Thank you to all the past and present men and women who have served this county, and to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Remember to honor these brave people by exercising all of the freedoms that they fought and died for that most of the world does not enjoy. More importantly continue to remember and thank them every chance you can. God Bless

With this peoples gas construction going on it looks like a war zone on our streets. Our street hasnt been swept since august because of this. I dont fault chity hall on this, but i do fault them in not going after the subcontractors or peoples gas as per CHITcago ordinance streets and walkways must be clean and restored daily to clean. Streets in construction area have mashed down mud all over. Sewers are having mud and sand pushed into them daily (again against CHITcagos ordinance). If we get a heavy rain or snow the water will just sit and puddle out into the street and when it freezes we'll have ice. our curbs are loaded with sand mud and leaves. Hey CHITY hall how about gettin these inspectors in the front of the homes for a bit and get after peoples gas and the subcontractors or are they too big to touch. Again our goverment goes after the little guy

I worked for streets and san for 36 years and cleaned many of streets. Im retired but i still keep my property up and even my neighbors. When it snows i run my snowblower on the main sidewalk for 5 or 6 houses. This is why its really pissing me off michaels doesnt give a chit peoples gas doesnt give a chit and chity hall doesnt give a chit

Mary who knows but its starting to scare me with this cold snap and the ignorance that has been displayed by these contractors what if they decide on a freezing day to do this meter switch it was stated that it will take around 4 hours to do this work and they will red flag your gas line if they find a problem and not give you service until the problems fixed. I dont anticipate any problem i keep all my units in good working order but who knows. Then on top of that i recieved a letter about major sewer replacement it stated work will begin mid oct and end mid jan. Psst chity hall get a calender. The letter states they cant guarantee no flooding or backups during construction. Well hell that really puts me at ease with a finished basement. I know its all about improvements but have some common sense while doing it
