Chuy for Mayor! Correction

My mistake. But my point is not so much where Emanuel was born as to his being primarily raised on the North Shore. His privileged upbringing along with amassing a 16 million dollar fortune within a two year period has distanced him both financially and mentally from what the average Chicago citizen endures on a daily basis. Which is part of the reason why he is so quick to have citizens bear the brunt of the cost of his programs and pet projects, such as the 140 million dollars to DePaul University while Chicagoans struggle with parking fines, red light/speed camera fines, ever increasing utility fees and property tax increases.

rogerparker, You want to talk about benefits, let's talk about Emanuel's benefits. Like when he earned 16 million dollars in 2 years as an investment banker even though he hardly had any experience in that field. Oh wait a minute, he did have experience in that field, kinda, like when he was a well paid director of scandal plagued Fredie Mac, which again was a job his resume was really not suited for. But hey with his connections the world is your oyster. Only trouble is, his connections aren't doing much for Chicago, although they certainly are fattening his recently 30 million dollar campaign war chest! Garcia's connection pales in comparison to Emanuel's connections. For more about them read:

    http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2011/02/rahm_emanuel_2.html

  • Mr Garcia is the focus of Chicago voters dissatisfaction with Blue dog Dems. He, like former U.S. Representative Michael Patrick Flanagan,is in the right place at the right time.

Rahm Emanuel is a multimillionaire, suburban born and bred arrogant, elitist who no more cares about Chicago, it's citizens, employees and least it's retirees than the man in the moon. He'll have moved on in 4 years leaving a path of destruction in his place while enhancing his reputation on the national stage. He already is eliminating health insurance for retirees and if the courts allow it his next target will be the pensions of thousands and thousands of workers. Mayor Daley destroyed the financial solvency of this city and Emanuel has done nothing but dig a deeper hole. Through back room deals he give millions of City money to his fat cat billionaire friends and proposes to give 1 billion dollars to DePaul University to fund the building of a new arena, while he bleeds the citizens dry with red light cameras, skyrocketing parking fees and soon I'm sure, huge property tax increases

  • TeamGarrido tries these same rumors for the fourth, fifth, sixth time?
Are the TeamGarrido All-Stars tiring of being asked to repeatedly lie?

  • I like Rahm, He's been there for me when I needed him.

"The lawsuit is politically motivated and the accusations are without merit, said Joanna Klonsky, a spokeswoman for Arena.

"This effort to score cheap political points harkens back to a kind of old Chicago politics that we should all have moved forward from by now," Klonsky said.

Neither Przyby nor her attorney, Sean Baker, returned phone messages Thursday afternoon."

Our 45th ward candidate, a police lieutenant who is also an attorney, Mr Garrido, has quite the history of spurious lawsuits.

  • Well the police and State's Attorney dropped the matter, so what do you think? And the fact that a group of people were there but no one corroborates her lie?

  • But that doesn't stop TeamGarrido from soliciting assistance from Mayor 1%'s floor leader's surrogate, MayorSQ, from dredging Mr Garrido's politically motivated stunts up again.

Facts be damned, TeamGarrido is campaigning.

    Tom,
Proving that a lane reduction will not be a problem is a meme worth debunking.
A problem to whom and what is the nature of the problem that you raise?
It will show us what car traffic coping strategies are employed to avoid the construction.

There are several functional classifications of street, in descending order in the 45th:
    Interstate: I-90, obviously
Freeway or Expressway: none, the Elgin-O'Hare is an example
    Other Principal Arterial: Cicero,Irving
Minor Arterial: Nagle, Central, Pulaski, Lawrence/Gunnison, Foster
Major Collector: Austin, Laramie, Addison, Montrose, Bryn Mawr, Elston, Milwaukee, Higgins, NWHwy,
    Minor Collector: None

Which major collector has four dedicated traffic lanes? Only a portion of Milwaukee and that's why it is out of place in the road network, and allows speeding and unsafe driver behavior due to the excess traffic capacity and failure to design for safety for all users. Milwaukee, Metra to Elston, is a remnant of the car-centric design ethic that kills cities, it is the problem.

  • Tom

PAC52us, I see your point. If traffic can okay with a construction closure. A permanent properly designed lane reduction would be even better.

Volunteer for Chuy Garcia

Are you fed up with our multi-millionaire, elitist mayor and his taking care care of his billionaire fat cat friends while he continually sucks money from the rest of us through fees from red light cameras, skyrocketing parking rates, or wanting to give 1 billion dollars to private DePaul University to build an arena?

Well if you've had enough of our out of touch mayor, then please join me in campaigning for Chuy Garcia in the 41st Ward. Spend an hour or more either working a phone bank for Chuy or meeting with citizens by distributing pamphlets about Chuy's plans to take Chicago out of downtown and bring it back to the neighborhoods.

Peggy

  • don't forget to mention that since Ram has been in office water bills have doubled, municipal tax on gas and elec. have gone up, new tax on phones, parking fees and ticket fees have gone up. What is he doing with all that money.
No mention yet of a firm plan to fix pensions.

  • Pay attention, people. Our mayor has been pushing for water meters, which has cut our water bill by more than half. Try it!!!

What are the rules about an Alderman using City Vehicles to Campaign?

Does anyone know the laws about an Alderman using a city vehicle driven by a city employee to get to a political event? This video appears to show Alderman Mary O'Connor arriving at the Northwest Side Irish Parade in a City Vehicle driven by a City Employee. Did tax payers pay for the gas or the employees time? Does anyone know if she broke the law here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXynsbpXhng

  • Interesting how this very same topic was also on facebook on the 41st Ward citizens blog. Also on the blog was the topic about Napolitano using city equipment for political purposes all because he has a picture on his mailer of himself in his CFD uniform in front of a fire engine. The owner of the page didn't like that I disagreed with his/her take on either so called abuse of city property and has blocked me from commenting on any more posts.

  • Your question should be did Rahm get driven to a parade by a team of much higher paid city employees? And in a very expensive city vehicle? At least in this case the city employee was already working the parade and probably picked her up close by in the ward. Not a big deal and i am sure not an ethics violation. Worry about the important things will ya. By the way i am a supporter of her opponent.

What does John Garrido say about attracting business?

Copernicus re Attracting Business
Question: What can an alderman do to attract more business to the ward?

Garrido: For decades in this ward, businesses come and businesses go. And you've seen mailer after mailer, 80 new businesses that the alderman single-handedly brought into the ward, brought into the community. But you can drive up and down Milwaukee Avenue and you see empty storefront after empty storefront. Now, we've asked repeatedly, we'd liike to seethe list of these 80 businesses and maybe he has one, maybe he doesn't. But, I've got a list of over 200 businesses that have left the ward since he's taken office. Again, you can drive around yourself and see. So, maybe he has a list of 80 businesses that he's going to try to rattle off, but where are
they? Because we've got a lot of empty storefronts. We need to do is do a better job at marketing our community. We need to work together with our Chambers of Commerce and our neighborhood organizations, have a monthly roundtable meeting, to to implement that plan of marketing. And, also, we need to have an experienced Business Development Liaison in our office that will work with these businesses that come in the ward and help retain them. Having businesses just come and go as a natural ebb and flow, well, then nothing's changed. We need to figure out how to keep these businesses here and help them to stay.

Now, after Mr Garrido's response, do you know if answered the question:
What can an alderman do to attract more business to the ward?

What does John Garrido say?
We need...to meet, with chambers, with associations,
Hire an experienced Business Development Liaison
We need to figure out...

Acknowledge the question then pivot? Done.
Anybody have a clarity on this question? No, what can an *alderman* do
Mission accomplished.

  • Chuck,
Getting shot happened before his political career, he jsut tells the story.
    Do you comment on SCC?
How did a CPD chase end up at the Elgin Toll Plaza.
    Convenient ignorance re 7-11

    Dennis,
Mr Garrido seems to have a history of quixotic lawsuits.
Opportunism seems consistent with his pandering style.

45th Ward Election Results by Precinct

I've made a map of the 45th Ward election results from the 2/24/15 municipal election by precinct. I've categorized the map in terms of first past the post voting, or the precincts "won" by the candidate that took the majority of the votes.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z9EVMxrqh5mI.kCUow3JpilW8

Overlaid on top of this are precincts highlighted in a red boundary. These precincts were won by Alderman Arena but in which the difference between Alderman Arena and John Garrido's vote totals was smaller than the number of votes given to Michelle Baert. This suggests that these precincts might be in play should all of Ms. Baert's votes be assigned to Mr. Garrido.

  • Ryan Richter Transportation Planner in Jefferson Park

    I meant "won" that precinct.

  • @Ryan - I understand and Diaz got not one vote, but am still surprised. Thanks again for the map.

Was our mail in cold storage?

Today (February 24) I received a greeting card posted first class on Feb. 2 and several other important pieces of mail posted at the beginning of the month. My question is, who's in charge over there on Northwest Highway and how can they lose mail for three weeks? I guess I should consider myself lucky though as I did receive the multitude of mayoral and aldermanic election materials.

  • PattyM Concerned Citizen

We have the same problem over and over. Charge bills that never come, news
magazines that are out of date, no mail for three days in a row and then a huge pile.
ANd our mail generally comes between 6 and 7PM if at all.....

  • We have the same problem with mail in Norwood Park. Some days we get no mail at all. Magazines and other mail comes late.

  • Has anyone contacted the Chicago USPS postmaster and filed a complaint?
