Over 3 lbs of dog poop left on my front porch over night

This morning I woke up to over 3 pounds of dog poop or some kind of poop on my front porch. It was a LOT of poop. I am really shook up about this and scared. Is this personal? Or this some kind of random Chicago thing? I always pick up after my dogs on walks. ALWAYS. I literally have never not picked up their poop. And I never leave them unattended in the backyard to bark.

Grammar Cop---and to those likeminded. I understand these are city issued and not my official cans. But, we take care of these cans---period. Scrub them out when so called nasty dog poop is stuck at the bottom of the cans for WEEKS. This was never about a random dog walker's poop in the can. I do not have an issue with it. This was about a neighbor who did not want to use her own cans...and was using everyone else's. This was about a neighbor, when asked by 3-4 neighbors, still refused to use her own cans. That's is wrong. She would literally clean the poop off of her FRONT LAWN--and walk to anyone else's can. If you find it ok do that ---then you are the EXACT neighbor---no one likes or wants living near them.

  • You folks over in Norwood Park are scaring me.

Regionalizing

What are the feelings about this amongst local families? I'd like to see the energy spent by Thecla used the right way at the other school meetings it seemed as if. They already gave up I'm highly considering a move to thecla because the pastor principal and staff cared at tars it doesn't matter what we think

ALSO---one would have to know the key differences between TerraNova and the ISAT to know which school "grades out better". By simply looking on Illinoisreportcards.com, Onahan's last published ISAT scores are at 70% Reading and 76% for Math. That's a "C" average? Lower than a few other schools in the area. 3rd grade is a benchmark year; Onahan's 3rd grade results are 68% in Reading and 72% in Math. St Thecla's 3rd grade scores are approx by my eyeball looking at graph---77% on Reading and 89% on Math. There's a lot more into what makes a school successful. We left a CPS school. My kids were scoring above average on their standardized tests and their map tests always showed growth. That was great. But, when large class sizes started to interfere with their academics and overall experience, it was time to go. Middle school has class sizes are about 32-36--which is not fair for teacher or student. There's very little support/help for children who need it--with our without an IEP/504 plan. Our teacher was unhelpful, but she had 35 other kids in the class. When I went to the principal to back my child---I was literally told by the principal that my child's teacher felt my child was bright--but lazy--no help. Also, if your kid want to play sports--they can only take 12-16 kids per team, and 2 class grades and combined. You can do the math---60-70 kids per grade. Volunteerism at this school was on the decline, that says a lot to me about leadership. Plus, there's the politics, CTU, CPS BS. Everyone has a different experience, I know many families that are happy with CPS. Good for them. We weren't.

Apologies--Onahan's scores for 3rd grade are reversed---72% in Reading and 68% in Math. https://illinoisreportcard.com/School.aspx?source=Trends&source2=ISAT&Schoolid=150162990252383

Kouk's Closed?

My husband and I went there the other day, and it was closed. I peeked inside and the place looked cleaned out. There was no sign on the window with any explanation. My husband called the number to see if maybe there was an answering machine message with some sort of clarification, but the number was disconnected.

Does anyone know what happened??

  • They told me they are going to remodel.

  • EBKitty Stalking around EB

I read somewhere they were remodeling and maybe changing the business model all together but were non-committal about the topic. They had business so it seems incredible they would close. They had regulars. Don't know if they are on this board.

overcrowded schools in Chicago

I live in Sauganash but teach at Grissom School (12810 S.Escanaba--in Chicago). We have classes with 41 students. All of the rooms are overcrowed there because the neighborhood is changing from older Caucasian couples to Hispanic families with children. If the parents of the students at your school attend the Board of Education meeting and complain, it will be noted. Teachers are allowed to refer and grieve classes that are overcrowded, but parents who state the problem at the Board meeting will be heard. The teacher's union (312-329-9100) can go to your school and get the facts of whether there are additional school rooms that can be set up to help relieve the overcrowded classes. Also parents can go to the LSC meetings at the school to complain. It is good that you want the best for your child and you should seek out other parents to form a class size committee. If you call the union and ask for Lois Jones (312-329-6245--- who is in charge of the classroom size in schools), you will get assistance in knowing what steps to take. We always say that parents need to advocate for their children. You can always email me for further info at pat353g@yahoo.com. Pat Gerard

Attempted in vain to initiate some sort of change while my sons attended but was told the test scores were high (for Chicago that is...not so much on a national comparison) so therefore class size has no impact. Teachers at the time seemed reluctant to make an issue of it. Little bit of peer pressure there, I think.

So flash forward to last month when yet another national study indicated that class size does indeed impact learning/success, particularly since STEM has been thrust into the spotlight.

Glad my sons are out of CPS...sorry they and many other students had to endure some negative behavior that went unnoticed and unreported because a teacher's eyes cannot be everywhere, especially when there are upwards of 35 bodies in motion.

  • Its NOT the class size that pupils get a better education. Its the teacher that makes the difference.....oh by the way...PARENTS TOO. I feel for the teachers who have unruly kids. Undiscipline kids too.. ...however...having gone to a Catholic school both grammar and high school...average class size were 45+...if thats the case we musta received the worst education and ended up stupid. Maybe CPS parents should start paying for their kids education. Maybe they'll get more involved with both their kids and their education.

Postal issues in Norwood park

Has anyone else been having problems with the Postal Service? Last week, I received no mail at all at my house. One day last week my neighbor received my mail and walked it over to my house, but what is the issue with the mail service? Our block is shoveled and my walkway and stairs are shoveled, so there is no reason for my house to be skipped...Any thoughts?

  • Edison Park CJM EP Neighbor

Report it to the U.S. Postal service at 1-800-275-8777 and get a official case number. Also encourage your neighbors to call in and file a complaint. I have found this places a lot of pressure on the local post office.

They're all related, Jefferson Park the same way. One day we get all junk mail, The next day we get a box full of first class, Go figure. And wish I got a dollar for every piece of mail delivered to my address that was marked for a different one.
