In the 40 years living in this neighborhood, I am bitter to know that our neighborhood is now more of a reason for @#$% to steal. Not hating on the new residents but this is BS. Of all days not to have the dogs out...I beat myself up.

Who is my alderman?

I have tried to use this website to figure out my alderman and what district I fall into, but when I try to put my address in, it doesn't take it. And I can not see my street on the map. So hoping one of you may know. I used to think it was Burnett, but someone told me that he wasn't my alderman. THanks. This was the website I was using: http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/other/provdrs/clerk/svcs/find_your_ward_andalderman.html

My address is 111 S Morgan St.

Thanks.

Missing Cat

My cat went missing on Friday night from the 1400 block of West Huron. He is a big brown Tabby with white paws. He answers to the name of Bob.

He normally just wandered the alley between Huron and Superior. Let me know if anyone has seen him!

Thanks!

Late Night Fire on W. Chestnut?

I saw a house on fire and smoking majorly last night around 12am-1am. Tons of firetrucks, noise and commotion.

The firefighters used saws to open the roof. I can't find it anywhere on the news.

Anyone know what happened?

I hope everyone is ok.

Awful noise from ADM on Ogden?

Ive lived in the West Town neighborhood for 5 years now and just moved a few blocks from my apartment on Grand Ave.

I noticed at my new place a awful, squealing noise coming from outside that happens every morning from about 6am to around noon. It lasts for about a minute, stops for a bit then goes back again.

It's amazingly annoying and have to believe others hear it and can't stand it either.

Does anyone know what I'm taking about? Anybody know of any past complaints?

  • Isn't there a Planned Manufacturing District (PMD) just west of there? Unfortunately, I think you moved next to various factories/plants that will probably make those kinds of noises. That said, I'd still bring it up to your alderman.

Nanny Share

Looking for a family who can share a babysitter for days a week with us. Our son is in 1/2 day preschool at FXW and needs a friend to hang with while we work. Our schedule is flexible and ever changing.

  • Agreed...Tbone is off topic and missed the point.

  • Hi Shannon! Email me we also live on grand and have a full time nanny for our 2.5 year old who has been with us since our daughter was 3 months. Let me know if you want to talk. Jodi.curl@gmail.com

The 26 ward needs a new alderman

If you agree.... please take a closer look at Juanita Irizarry. I think she will do a better job of looking out for the entire ward

found calico kitten

I was out this evening near our home on Warren Blvd by Oakley and found a calico kitten. We took her to the 24. Hour animal hospital. Unfortunately, she is not microchipped. They thought she was around 4 months old and she was wearing a flea collar. She is for sure somebody's pet. Super friendly, cuddley and well maintained. The vet does not take in strays so for now she is home with us. In the morning we will be taking her to anti cruelty society down on LaSalle and grand ave. Please contact me if you know who she belongs to.

  • Em Ro evening is the whole day

That's great that you're taking such good care of her. I'm sure if she is that social, she'll get adopted out.

  • Julie Pambianco 8 year Near West (United Center) Resident

She is beautiful. I hope her cat guardian is on EB and sees this. Kudos to you for taking care of her.

OHC: It’s Like a Backstage Pass to Chicago’s Architecture

5 Columbian Model and Exhibit Works (1528 West Adams Street): We know you love architectural models. Google tells us so.  These are the people who...

This article has 10 other Chicago locations (Show)

10 The Kemper Building (1 East Wacker Drive): This weekend is the only time this building’s observation deck is open to the public.  The glass is old and foggy, but you get some great insight into the design of the nearby buildings like Marina City and 35 East Wacker.

8 Adrian Smith+Gordon Gill Architecture (111 West Monroe): Unfortunately, most of the architects studios that are open to the public are pretty boring...

7 City Hall (121 North LaSalle): Yes, this is a great piece of architecture, but it’s more than that. You...

4 Thalia Hall (1807 South Allport Street): Our own Bill Motchan did a series of articles about the recently restored Pilsen landmark. Formerly a Bohemian residential, retail, and theater building, it’s now a suds house under the protection and care of a local restauranteur-turned-preservationist.

3 Second Presbyterian Church (1936 South Michigan Avenue): Yes, another church.  But this one has a totally different vibe. Instead of gothic-frontiersman style, this one is straight outta Hogwarts.

2 Prairie Material Concrete Factory (835 North Peoria Street): I haven’t actually been to this one, but people I know who have been there say it’s pretty cool.

1 The Pullman Administration Building (11057 South Cottage Grove Avenue): This is the best of the remaining Pullman District buildings.  Ordinarily it’s kept locked...
