Shooting

1470 block of West Ohio Street at 730pm yesterday there was a silver/ gray Toyota 4Runner who fired about 5-6 rounds. I'm not sure who they were shooting at. Cops were called but I don't know what the outcome was. It's not the first time that a shooting took place in the area, but it's scary that it seems to be happening earlier in the evenings. So please be careful out there.

  • My sister and I live just a couple of houses down and we heard the gunshots too. We ran to the window, but we didn't see or hear anything else. We didn't see any cops come by either. I feel pretty safe in the neighborhood, but that does scare me a little bit, especially if people are reporting stray bullets. Glad to hear none of the neighbors were out or hurt.

  • ANacho Lived in neighborhood for over 40yrs!

I was all concerned about out house being hit, I didnt even notice until last night that my car was also hit. I now have a bullet hole in the side panel in the front of my brand new car.

Mail Only Delivering Every Other Day

I live in 60622, 2400 block of W Haddon. Is anyone else in the area noticing a pattern where mail is only being delivered every other day or so?

  • @Modern Times I used to live over by Grand and Hoyne, and I had that same experience with "undeliverable" mail.

I contacted a representative from Mike Quigley's office about the post office in 60622 and some missing packages. Since the PO is a federal thing, they are the ones to handle it. Melanie from his office was super nice and very helpful and damned if I didn't get a phone call several times from the "fine" people at the post office, explaining that they delivered it. (Whatever, don't believe them and don't expect to get my packages but do like to rat them out and have someone up top know they suck). Here is the contact for Rep. Quigley's office that made stuff happen. I encourage one and all to call them and make your own complaints:

kids running the streets

Was wondering if anyone had advice. Live by Oakley and Maypole. Last night there were about twenty to thirty kids in the middle of the street blocking traffic and screaming. When the cops showed up they all ran. With the exception of about 15 stragglers who wanted to give lip to the cops. I know that about 5 of the kids live in section 8 housing within two blocks of my apartment. Is there a way I can report their...

When the cops showed up they all ran. With the exception of about 15 stragglers who wanted to give lip to the cops. I know that about 5 of the kids live in section 8 housing within two blocks of my apartment. Is there a way I can report their activity anonymously to the CHA? I also have an issue with the amount of trash I see on a daily basis, broken glass, discarded food and plastic bags . I pick up when I see it but maybe more trash cans at the end of the block would help curb the problem.

Every single time you see ANYTHING, call 311 or 911.

The # of police calls to certain areas are tracked and the more you call and report things, the more patrols will be send to the area just to drive around.

It's so unfortunate that kids have nothing better to do.

Rash of stolen packages

Hi neighbors - I know this has been a recurring problem in our hood but it's reakky gotten out of control. Finally had to move all my deliveries to my downtown office which is a huge inconvenience. Literally the latest package lasted an hour after delivery and by the time I get home, gate wide open, no package.

At Iowa/Honore. Keep your eyes open as my guess it people are following delivery trucks around - wether fedex, ups or usps.

  • the only thing I have delivered to my home is cat litter

  • well same as well and I just want to let everyone know that I'm in the same boat. A huge inconvenience but our postal system can't be trusted to put the packages out of sight (like over a locked gate- not a big deal) and neither can the neighbors/non-neighbors. I feel like this is the time of year it starts. My package delivered on 11-21 around noon was stolen. Division/Damen area. pathetic.

Renting Table & Chairs?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to rent a banquet table and chairs? I only need 1 table (that can hold 10 people) and 10 chairs for the weekend.

  • Thanks, Doolins will be perfect and it's a good price.

  • Wow. I did not know that Doolin's rented tables and chairs. Wonder if they also rent coat racks. We always drive to some place south west. Doolin's is much closer and we go there for all of our other supplies. Thank you for the tip. I will check it out.

West town SSA - unfairly raising resident property taxes

It seems the overwhelming majority of residents would be AGAINST this very significant tax given the benefits almost exclusively seen by business and not west town residents.

There were some posts in October about the West Town SSA - was anyone at the hearing on Oct. 2 about the reconstitution of the SSA? What is the status?

Get your facts straight before you make a decision. SSA's only tax the properties within the designated district, not residents outside the district. The tax is not "very significant." It's a small percentage of what a property owner's tax would normally be. And everyone benefits. SSA's are the reason you have clean streets, nice trash cans, street banners, events, and other such improvements. I would say that benefits all the residents. And SSA's truly give the local neighborhood control of how this money is spent, and not politicians or City Hall.

  • I don't see anything online about a Nov 24 meeting. Is there a meeting on Monday? Also, I never heard what happened at the October 2 meeting. Does anyone know?
