hello neighbors and neighborhood businesses. i work at green grocer chicago at the corner of grand and noble. over the past couple months we have had a break-in and two incidents of seemingly random vandalism. in all three cases, we have had our front windows smashed in. all of them have occurred around 4am-5am. having been in the neighborhood for over 6 years, it is very disheartening and frustrating. we have video cameras in the store and we have been working with the police precinct but there isn't much they can do. we are just wondering if other people have had the same problem and also let the neighborhood know to be vigilant and safe. replacing glass gets expensive for a small businesses like us, but more important, it is scary and troubling knowing there are people on our block in the early morning hours looking to cause damage and perhaps hurt people.

Call your alderman and contact CAPS shy Juan Clas and ask what additional assistance police can provide. You might be in remapped 1st ward Ald Proco Joe Moreno, otherwise Walter Burnett. Maybe Ald can ask police to declare hot spot, to have tactical team patrol between those hours. Find out what CAPS area you are in and who is Community Facilitator. If Beat 1215 email Beth at Beat.1215@yahoo.com
    Ask for help.

    Typo above Sgt. Clas.

  • Beyond the cremonial unveiling of a statue of Paul Laurence Dunbar, what is going on with the future educational curriculum of the underserved, disadvantaged predominantly AFRICAN-AMERICAN students who attend this revitalized urban high school campus in the historic Bronzeville community?

  • Certainly there must be some innovative writers workshops featuring the literary contributions of writers like Paul Lawrence Dunbar and other literary giants of the Black Cultural Renaissance that took place in Bronzeville! :-)

Anyone interested in getting a fenced dog park in Smith Park?

We've been walking our dogs up to Wicker Park, but it'd be nice to have a designated, fenced-in, off-leash area closer to home. Anyone else interested or know if this has been attempted before?

Thanks --Leila

  • Sarah Ebling east village/ west town

You could try Claremont dog park at Western and Flournoy St. It's closer to wicker park and SO much bigger with grass, no concrete.

Closer to Smith park than wicker park**
