The IMDC has been working for years to find a suitable project to fill nearly 9.5 acres of vacant land, hoping to bring more life to the district dominated by hospitals and medical facilities, and after a request for proposals, have approved this plan. The $300 million tab will be picked up by the project's developers. Construction is slated to begin in spring of 2015.

The City of Chicago is pleased to inform you that the application period for the entry-level Firefighter/EMT exam started July 16, 2014 and will run through September 16. This is the period of time when applicants can sign up for the exam, which will be administered on December 13 and 14, 2014. In 2006, the age to sit for the exam was 19 and the age to enter the academy was 20. We have lowered the age to sit for the exam and enter the academy to 18. It is our hope that younger individuals who get on the eligibility list will be motivated to attend college and stay out of trouble and will find a sense of opportunity about their futures.
Attached is the job announcement, as well as the FAQ’s, which provides all of the key information about the application process and the exam. In case you’d like to cut-and-paste the link to the application website, here it is: www.cityofchicago.org/FireApplication. The website also contains links to additional information.
During the posting period, applicants can call (312) 744-4976 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns, and they can also seek assistance in Room 100 in City Hall.
We have also modified the way candidates can apply for Veterans Preference. Applicants may apply for Veterans Preference at any time, even after the posting has closed. There is no longer a cutoff date for the submission of documents showing eligibility for Veterans Preference. However, the later the preference is applied for, the later it will be applied. Detailed instructions on how to apply for the Veterans Preference are included in the attached FAQs.

Walsh Construction is trying to put a TRANSFER of TRASH location on 949 Elston. All of the neighbors received a notice of hearing. It's going to be on July 18, 2 pm, City Hall. 121 LaSalle, Room 200. They want to use it as a modified transfer station. From what I understand, previously they had a construction company there and they were loud at all hours of the night, waking the neighbors, etc. I also heard that the backyards had debris from the site and odors. I was not here at that time but I'm concerned about all of those factors and also chemicals, being close to the water. Please attend the meeting- we need your voice!

I can't believe Fioretti hasn't had to answer exactly WHEN this ban will be over, other than to say about West Loop residents, "... although they appreciate the program for preventing day trippers from gobbling up all their parking spaces...". Well Bob, now WE can't park here, so no, it hasn't helped anything. At least before, with the ghost "daytrippers" (that no one seems to have ever seen) gobbling up all the spaces, we had a CHANCE to park in our own neighborhoods. Now friends/family have to park blocks away if they don't want to pay. I wonder if Bob cut a sweetheart deal to force WestLoopers to pay the garages and meters. The ban certainly isn't helping businesses.
