West town SSA - unfairly raising resident property taxes

It seems the overwhelming majority of residents would be AGAINST this very significant tax given the benefits almost exclusively seen by business and not west town residents.

There were some posts in October about the West Town SSA - was anyone at the hearing on Oct. 2 about the reconstitution of the SSA? What is the status?

Get your facts straight before you make a decision. SSA's only tax the properties within the designated district, not residents outside the district. The tax is not "very significant." It's a small percentage of what a property owner's tax would normally be. And everyone benefits. SSA's are the reason you have clean streets, nice trash cans, street banners, events, and other such improvements. I would say that benefits all the residents. And SSA's truly give the local neighborhood control of how this money is spent, and not politicians or City Hall.

  • I don't see anything online about a Nov 24 meeting. Is there a meeting on Monday? Also, I never heard what happened at the October 2 meeting. Does anyone know?

Who is my alderman?

I have tried to use this website to figure out my alderman and what district I fall into, but when I try to put my address in, it doesn't take it. And I can not see my street on the map. So hoping one of you may know. I used to think it was Burnett, but someone told me that he wasn't my alderman. THanks. This was the website I was using: http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/other/provdrs/clerk/svcs/find_your_ward_andalderman.html

My address is 111 S Morgan St.

Thanks.

Late Night Fire on W. Chestnut?

I saw a house on fire and smoking majorly last night around 12am-1am. Tons of firetrucks, noise and commotion.

The firefighters used saws to open the roof. I can't find it anywhere on the news.

Anyone know what happened?

I hope everyone is ok.

If you agree.... please take a closer look at Juanita Irizarry. I think she will do a better job of looking out for the entire ward

New Restaurant at Ogden and Grand

My boyfriend was walking past a crew working on the old Fogon exterior at Ogden and Grand, and they told him an Italian restaurant is opening in the space in a month or two. Does anyone have any more information?

  • i wonder if it is the same owner who basically switches between Italian and Mexican restaurants every 2 years or so...

  • I'm curious too. I actually liked the previous Mexican restaurant (not Fogon)....or maybe I just liked half priced margarita Wednesdays :)

  • NJ West Town Dogwalker

Hope they can finally get it right on that corner. It's a great location and I'd love to see something new in the neighborhood!
