Halloween

Hi neighbors,
We just moved to sauganash in July and I'm wondering if trick or treating is popular here? We lived in a condo before so I have no idea how much candy to buy, if any. We live close to a school but we're on a busy road. So...not sure? Thanks!

CPS students can earn community service hours for participation with the Neighborhood Connection Project Winter Prep and Clean Up

One hour of your time is kindly requested on Saturday, October 4 between 10am-12pm to help get the bricolage underpass mural ready for winter and cleaned up. We'll be raking, watering, planting, cleaning, mowing (and other things that end in "ing") our shared underpass and public space. Your help is needed to get this done. For more information on this fun way to improve your neighborhood, contact Kristin Ciarrachi (longtime Edgebrook resident) at kciarrachi@parkcommunitychurch.org.

For this effort, the Neighborhood Connection Project (NCP) is pleased to partner with yet another community institution, Park Community Church (located on Touhy Avenue across from Target).

For more information about the Neighborhood Connection Project, check us out on Facebook or contact Jac Charlier at jac.charlier@gmail.com or Gina Metelica at gina.metelica@gmail.com

As part of its vision to renew Chicago, Park Community seeks to build the goodness and greatness of the city we all love. As we continue to partner with community leaders, organizations and neighbors we seek to make a positive lasting difference throughout Chicago.

About NCP: Started in Spring of 2010, the Neighborhood Connection Project (NCP) is a citizen-led initiative to build community by repairing and beautifying the Metra railroad underpass located at Kinzua, Hiawatha and Lehigh. We were joined by our ongoing partners, Green Star Movement (GSM) and After School Matters (ASM). Phase I underpass beautification efforts were ready to begin and indeed started finally in Spring 2013. GSM worked with ASM's teen interns and our local artists and community volunteers to produce the mural on the East side of the underpass, which was completed in Summer 2013. We completed Phase II when the West wall work was completed in August 2014. During summer 2015 we will finish the project.

Everyblock vs Nextdoor in Sauganash

I have my favorite but would like to hear what peeps up in Sauganash think.

If you could only use one, which would you choose? ...and why? Which do you find to be more informative, to have better features, community outreach, support etc? ...or is there another social neighborhood network you prefer to use? ie Facebook, Yahoo Groups, Foursquare

To help compare, i put together a chart:
http://w11.zetaboards.com/InsideNextdoor/topic/10057749/2/#new

For those who are not familiar with ND, but curious, here's an invite link:
https://nextdoor.com/invite/uncptzzbfxscgxxppmuw

  • Tim! 5900 block of Kolmar Avenue

    Nextdoor is by far better.

  • Todd Agosto Analyst/Investigator at Veritatem Cognoscere

If you don't mind me asking... how is it better?

  • Flew That Chicago born & raised. You can come home again!

Everyblock is my personal choice by far but I read both daily. Imo, EB provides more information about what's going on in the neighborhood.

The people who post regularly to EB seem to be more outwardly focused than ND, i.e. how happenings in the 'hood affect the area(s) at large...

Everyblock is my personal choice by far but I read both daily. Imo, EB provides more information about what's going on in the neighborhood.

The people who post regularly to EB seem to be more outwardly focused than ND, i.e. how happenings in the 'hood affect the area(s) at large rather than just them. ND seems to be primarily concerned with garage sales, goings on by the stores in Edgebrook, and furniture, etc. for sale although lately a few issues came up that sparked debate. I'm of the opinion that knowledge can be power and knowing what's happening regularly in other areas helps us recognize the signs of impending trouble in our own.

I moved to Sauganash two years ago, albeit the less desirable section. It's usually very quiet here, save for the 3 a.m. motorcycle races on Cicero, so maybe ND is less interesting here because not much happens, although an entire block got tagged the other night.

Posts on EB tend to be more direct, aka snarky, but I'm not offended by it and I've never muted anyone nor felt the need to do so. No smelling salts in my medicine cabinet!!

    Different strokes.

Marcus Hayes, Operations Manager, will welcome your (tax-deductible) donations of used or new building materials after mid-October, and says the store should be open for shoppers in early November.

Grand Opening is set for Saturday November 22! Anyone may shop and buy materials here, from a big and always changing assortment of windows, doors, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and hardware.

This is a great addition to the NW side, both as an environmental good thing and a fundraising engine for Habitat for Humanity's local building programs!

Hi Steve - I can't remember the last time our gutters were cleaned. What are your rates (and do you travel to west rogers park?)?

  • it's $70 for one and two story houses $90 for 3 story houses the garage is $15 you can inbox me your address and I will let you know depending on the distance

  • Steve was great. I called him this morning and he came right over. Fixed a section of my down spout and cleaned my gutters. He included the garage for me as well. I'll definitely be calling him next year.

Tree debris

We still have two huge branches down next to our house. We've called many times (311) and I submitted a request to have it cleaned up but nothing has been done. The branches have been there since the storm on Saturday. Any thoughts on this? Do I call the aldermans office or just continue to wait? My request is "open" but no word on when they'll actually take care of it.

  • It's the lack of communication that's frustrating. I'm not even upset about how long it took I just was starting to wonder if my request was even received or not. That's all. :)

  • efs6220 business manager

I am sorry to see these posts. I have called 311 for suspicious activity in my area and they are horrible! They do not care at all! They answer a phone and get their paycheck! I am saddened that our tax dollars pay for these people who do not care!
