Bravo to Robert Murphy for getting 43% of the 39th ward!

Although he didn't win, this was a great showing and an indictment of "Marge".

Margaret Laurino 5,840 53%
Robert Murphy 4,740 43%

Suggestions for pizza delivery

We're looking to order pizza for 20 people next Wednesday without busting through our budget. Any suggestions for delivery to the Pulaski/Peterson area?

  • ReStore Chicago ReStore helps raise money for Habitat for Humanity

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone, truly appreciated.

I think that given that we are a non-profit and I have no budget for feeding hungry volunteers I would say that anything short of an in-kind donation would bust through my budget. That said, I was able to get a monetary for the donation so as long as its under $40 I'll be set.

We ended up going with Sergio's because of price considerations. My co-workers and I will be rotating the other suggestions for the next couple of weeks so we can find our local favorite. Thanks again for the suggestions everyone.

There's nowhere to live within 50 miles of O'Hara or Midway or any major International Airport in the world and not have jet noise. people may not like the noise, but believe me when I say you'll get use to it. The noise hasn't even affected the value of our property. I suggest to anyone not liking the jet noise, to move to the wilderness of the Dakota's, or New England.

Our Very Own Tunnel?

Alderman Laurino "join[ed] Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Congressman Mike Quigley, and officials from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MRWD) to announce" that a storm water tunnel will be built in Albany Park. It is to begin in Eugene Park, go under Foster Ave, and 2 years and $45-55M later. empty into North Branch. She "will be engaging the Albany Park community through a series of community meetings and public forums." (per 2/17/15 email)

It's "Eugene Field Park" - Eugene Field was the name of the author of several poems and he lived in Chicago. Calling it "Eugene Park" is wrong.

So happy to be able to communicate instanteanously with so many neighbors on so many platforms - EveryBlock, Twitter, Facebook, NextDoor.

Please know that I am listening to all of you, including those who disagree. I value all your opinions.

There has been lots of things happening lately in the 39th ward race, including that I received the Tribune's endorsement and a poll administrator at the N. Park Village Admin building who works for Ald. Laurino was removed.

I'm happy to answer any questions you all have about these or other issues. Please feel free to reach out on social media, on my website, or by phone 773.710.8431.

End This Nonsense: Time to Vote Laurino Out of Office on February 24

It is time for us to end the nonsense of one family multi-generational public payroll patronage in the 39th Ward. Silence on your part or not voting is choosing to support what we have had to live under for 5 decades.

Time to end 50 years of one family rule now or we might get even more as family offspring and relatives are lurking everywhere. Rumors of family member State Rep D'Amico being put into the Alderman's spot only make this a nightmare that will not end. Vote Laurino out now and the dominoes fall from there...can nobody else do the job? Apparently only LauriNO/D'Amico DNA can handle the stress of it all...many government jobs in that family, many taxpayer pensions, several investigations, two felony convictions (D'Amico) and one indictment (LauriNO).

Enough. Stop being apologist for this nonsense. We deserve better. We can do better. We need better.

  • Rudra Banerji Filmmaker and interactive media producer

    Bob K,

Thanks for posting that. I'm glad that Laurino to trying to make Albany Park those areas better. Flooding is definitely an issue in our area as well. We had to install a french drain system to deal with the ground water.

Will this system address that? Or just sewer overruns?

  • Thanks Bob, saw that too, SHES THE WORST :P

This should help a lot of people when this is done.

"County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia on Friday accused Mayor Rahm Emanuel of turning a deaf ear to skyrocketing complaints about O’Hare Airport jet noise and signed on to the demands of a noise-weary group of residents.

On Saturday, Garcia will join members of the anti-noise Fair Allocation in Runways (FAIR) Coalition at a park that lies directly beneath the flight path into a runway that has made Northwest Side residents miserable since it opened in October 2013. It averages flights every 3.5 minutes, FAIR contends.

Garcia and Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) are the only mayoral candidates as of early Friday evening who had signed on to FAIR’s “statement of principles,” which includes five specific demands.

Chief among them is a pledge not to “de-commission” any of four criss-crossing diagonal runways, even after a new parallel runway opens later this year. Killing off any diagonal runways could shift even more flights over city residents east of O’Hare already complaining about a bombardment of new jet noise.

Yet, another key demand is to halt an October 2013 take-off and landing plan in favor of a “fair allocation of runway traffic between existing and new runways” for both daytime and nighttime traffic."

Not On topic, but pertinent:Does Garrido think he's too good for our ward?
He must like the ward with all the clout strings pulled to get a brand new lieutenant to leap frog some many other more senior lieutenants to get stationed in the relatively safe 16th District. I'd say he wanted to be here in the ward, close to home, to maximize the time available to run for alderman. How did he swing that? Who swung it for him?

Wanting to be here is different than being too good for the ward though. Secondcitycop blog commenters, since 2007, have noted his "I'm the bestest cop" attitude, his self-serving penchant to sidle up to authority figures, and his willingness to be a part of the clouted portion of CPD. I'd say, judging from what I've read and observed, that he does think he's too good for the 45th.

I've always wondered about this particular issue, but try as I may have been unable to turn up an answer. If you are muted by another user/poster and that user's/poster's account is terminated by EB, is the number of times you have been muted get reduced accordingly? When an account is no longer active, mutes from an "inactive user" should no longer be tallied since such mutes are no longer applicable. If this is not automatically done, it is a feature that should be implemented by EB. I hope a moderator will chime in and shed some light on this issue.

had to work within the limitations imposed by EveryBlock. It is difficult to determine where to even post this. Chicago-wide would be OK, but that is not an option. It would also be helpful if there was an applicable category, but there isn't. Then a URL (link) is required, but this applies to all of EB so I use the home page link (www.everyblock.com)

There are users/posters who have violated EB community guidelines and consequently had their accounts terminated. A mute count from an inactive user is irrelevant. When a user's/poster's account is terminated, all EB users who have been muted should have their mute count adjusted/reduced accordingly. I put in a request to have this feature implemented. I received an email from an EB feedback staff member who indicated that they passed my suggestion onto the EB development team.

Sauganash Park Supplementary Snowplow Update

Hello Neighbors!

Due to the intensity of the blizzard (relentless, wasn't it?), it would not have been beneficial to do the job yesterday. Our supplementary snowplow will most likely perform curb-to-curb service Wednesday morning. By then, hopefully, the City plow will have done its job down the center of the streets. Please continue to monitor for updates.

In the meantime, it's been a wonderful sight to see neighbors helping neighbors during this snowstorm. We've witnessed people snowblowing entire blocks, shoveling people out of their parking spots, and helping drivers stuck in deep ruts of snow. It's a great testament to the great community in which we live! Stay safe, everyone!

Attention Sauganash Park Neighbors

Our first major snowstorm of the season is underway! The Sauganash Park Community Association board has contacted our supplementary snowplow service, so expect curb-to-curb service sometime tomorrow. Although we don't have an exact time frame at the moment, it would be ideal if all neighbors, if able, could park their cars in garages or driveways. The plow will clear east-west streets first, followed by north-south. Thanks. Be safe!
