From Alderman Laurino:

Dear Neighbor,

On Thursday, April 3rd my office hosted two public meetings to give an update on the Albany Park Stormwater Diversion Tunnel.

An afternoon meeting was held at Eugene Field Park Fieldhouse, the evening one at the Albany Park Branch Library. Since 2008, Albany Park has experienced two major floods that have affected hundreds of homes in the community.

I know how devastating these floods have been for Albany Park residents. It is essential to me that we keep residents informed about the progress of the diversion tunnel. I want to thank the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for being at the ready with details as well as responding to community concerns.

I want to thank Mayor Emanuel, as our congressman he brought in FEMA to help those in need and as our mayor he has made the tunnel a reality.

The Stormwater Diversion Tunnel, is expected to cost upwards of $45 million and is currently in the project design phase. Work is anticipated to be completed by this summer when the city's Department of Transportation will put the tunnel construction work out for bid. Construction is expected to start by late summer or early fall with a tunnel project completion date of 2017.

Starting in Eugene Field Park, the drainage tunnel will extend for approximately one mile under Foster Avenue to the North Shore Channel. The tunnel will divert water during times of heavy rains and will not affect the river's water level in normal times.

My office will continue to update residents on the progress of this project. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call my office at 772-736-5595.

- Alderman Margaret Laurino

Suggestions for pizza delivery

We're looking to order pizza for 20 people next Wednesday without busting through our budget. Any suggestions for delivery to the Pulaski/Peterson area?

  • ReStore Chicago ReStore helps raise money for Habitat for Humanity

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone, truly appreciated.

I think that given that we are a non-profit and I have no budget for feeding hungry volunteers I would say that anything short of an in-kind donation would bust through my budget. That said, I was able to get a monetary for the donation so as long as its under $40 I'll be set.

We ended up going with Sergio's because of price considerations. My co-workers and I will be rotating the other suggestions for the next couple of weeks so we can find our local favorite. Thanks again for the suggestions everyone.

Bravo to Robert Murphy for getting 43% of the 39th ward!

Although he didn't win, this was a great showing and an indictment of "Marge".

Margaret Laurino 5,840 53%

Spiro 1983 sounds like a real winner.

There's nowhere to live within 50 miles of O'Hara or Midway or any major International Airport in the world and not have jet noise. people may not like the noise, but believe me when I say you'll get use to it. The noise hasn't even affected the value of our property. I suggest to anyone not liking the jet noise, to move to the wilderness of the Dakota's, or New England.

  • Where is O'Hara?

Our Very Own Tunnel?

Alderman Laurino "join[ed] Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Congressman Mike Quigley, and officials from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MRWD) to announce" that a storm water tunnel will be built in Albany Park. It is to begin in Eugene Park, go under Foster Ave, and 2 years and $45-55M later. empty into North Branch. She "will be engaging the Albany Park community through a series of community meetings and public forums." (per 2/17/15 email)

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

It's "Eugene Field Park" - Eugene Field was the name of the author of several poems and he lived in Chicago. Calling it "Eugene Park" is wrong.
