  • Thank you PP46, I can't comment anymore now that I'm talking to the folks involved.

One of my first jobs was summer camp counselor. I also have a friend who works at this Y and know many people who have stayed there temporarily. Divorce pulls the rug right out from underneath men regardless of their occupations.

What does this mean? In this thread you take two swings at the brewery and one at the NADIG and now you're sworn to secrecy?

ELSTON AVE CTA BUS SERVICE - Let's get it back!

Call your local alderman's office! Request that they attend the meeting being held by the 33rd ward's Transportation Action Committee at Ald. Deb Mell's office January 22, 2015 7:00-8:00p 3649 N. Kedzie Ave. (Addison/Kedzie). Reinstating discontinued bus service on Elston is more important that ever. Let's get our alderman's to put it back on CTA's agenda. Remember in the 1980s when Elston was an industrial corridor? Well, that is no more! We have commercial businesses and residents that can benefit from this bus route, especially the kids during school hours. We have Charter and Magnet schools all over the city. Let's help get our kids to school! Please spread the word and let's make it happen!

I grew up in the city and chose to go to a high school outside the neighborhood more than 30 years ago, it took 2 buses and more than an hour. Commute time is a reality of living in the city. We chose where we live now because of the pain it was to rely on buses. Utilizing the trains is much easier and we made sure we were walking distance to the train because we both worked downtown. We live walking distance from the Elston bus and we never used it.

  • That posted before I finished. Bottom line no matter what the CTA does everyone isn't going to be happy. A bus down Elston isn't a magic bullet to make the commute time shorter. Traffic on Elston can be horrible and you could be stuck on a bus on Elston for...

Traffic on Elston can be horrible and you could be stuck on a bus on Elston for far longer than it would take use another bus route. My husband used to use Elston to get to work. Non rush hour it would be 10 to 15 minutes door to door, rush hour it would take anywhere from a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and he wasn't stopping to pick up or drop off passengers.

Candidates for 39th Ward Alderman

I've been studying the 39th Ward candidates for alderman, and while I am still undecided since anything can happen between now and the election, I have been impressed by Robert Murphy. He seems to have a handle on the issues of the Ward and appears very passionate. I am still open to hearing more from Joe Laiacona and Mary Hunter.

If you're interested in knowing - Murphy, Laiacona's and Hunter all have Facebook pages, and Murphy and Laiacona have twitter...

If you're interested in knowing - Murphy, Laiacona's and Hunter all have Facebook pages, and Murphy and Laiacona have twitter too. I tried to find a FB page or twitter for Alderman Laurino but I don't think she has either.

If anyone has any thoughts on any of the candidates, I would like to hear any views. You can also private message me if you like.

  • Jac Charlier AKA Citizen Jac Finding Solutions to Shared Community Challenges

I'm supporting Robert Murphy. His idea to build a better ward goes well with what he believes and does. He's a leader in our community whether it was as the President of the Forest Glen Community Club or with the FAiR Coalition. I really like his platform of making sure we get value for our hard earned tax dollar, a citizen-based, community-focused approach to governing and understanding that 50 years of one family rule by the Laurino/D'Amico family is enough; time for a change. It's time to move forward.

  • Jac, thanks for your comment. I tend to agree that there is a need for change. One simple change that should have been in place years ago is for open communication with the Alderman's office through ward nights or social media, as Robert mentioned.

And Robert, thanks for commenting. That in itself shows me that you are in touch and listening. I truly appreciate it.

Someone rummaged through our car at Grace and Kildare.

My wife and I were leaving for work this morning and noticed that someone had entered our car last night. They may have stolen a radar detector that we never use, but thankfully they left our stroller and carseat. No signs of forced entry... Just a pile of stuff that is usually in our glove box was on our passenger seat. We also believe that this happened previously... roughly a week ago. Has anyone else had any problems?

  • I don't think they were looking for a hand gun. It's just not what you envision after seeing a car seat for a child. People keep all kinds of things in their glove box like wallets, money and so on.

  • I have seen the homeless trying all the doors of the parked cars in hope of finding one open in order to have a place to sleep for the night.

neighbors, without sparking to much debate I am curious your views on something. Lots of accusations by many about others having multiple names, then there are the opinions that are often strong and heated by folks who clearly want to remain hidden. These opinions as you know can be everything from neighborhood issues to business reviews. What's your thoughts on that issue? Should EB revamp and require neighbors to display who they are? Just general thoughts and I'm sincerely curious what you all think on the subject

  • Dennis 25 year Jefferson Park resident

So Joanie, are you saying 2 alderman are cyber stalking you?

  • joanie 20+ year Resident of Jefferson Park

No that isn't what I said nor inferred. I'm someone who actually lives in the community and they know me. They're decent family men and well known because of their positions on the City Council.

Love Letter from the Garbage Man

A big sticker was placed on our recycle bin today. It was dark outside but I think it's an orange "hazardous waste" sticker with three boxes. None were checked. In black marker they wrote "NO BLACK BAGS".

You can't put black trash bags in the blue bin anymore? No advance notice either?

  • That's nuts!!!!

My recycle driver is ok with with plastic bags. He worked for the city for twenty plus years and employed for some time now with Waste Management, a fortune 500 company. He says if there were really a major problem with the sorters and multi-million dollar sorting equipment over these bags, that something would most assuredly would be done about really enforcing it.

What he definitely refuses to collect is a bin with any kind of styrofoam in it. And oh yeah, no dead squirrels or other animals - sometimes floating in water in the bins so they don't smell. In certain areas of the city he says this is very common.

Thank you police!

I saw a guy doing a huge piece of graffiti out my window yesterday, not gang stuff, potentially artistic, but geez it was broad daylight and he was just setup without a care in the world. I saw a guy doing a huge piece of graffiti out my window yesterday, not gang stuff, potentially artistic, but geez it was broad daylight and he was just setup without a care in the world. I debated calling the cops because no one was in danger and I doubted they would come anyway, but the brazenness of it got the better of me and I called. A little later I looked back out there and thought, "great now his buddies are here to help" only to realize when one turned around that he had a badge around his neck and they took the dude away. Hopefully him and parents pay to paint over it and not me and my tax dollars, probably just wishful thinking, but still thanks police for coming and making me feel like there is a chance.
