Beware City revenue trucks stalking area

There is a white van putting tickets on cars all over the area. I've seen 5 cars with tickets.

Sure hope they are targeting every area like this, but I bet the east side of 008 doesn't get the same treatment

Well let's see swold timer, after seeing them all the time on revenue drives when I lived downtown and now seeing them here you start to ask questions.

Biggest one is why they cruise tax paying areas and ticket all they can,yet you drive by certain churches on Sunday's in "less fortunate" areas and see double and triple parked , hydrants and cross walks blocked and zero enforcement you wonder why they manage to miss them yet don't miss a thing around here. If they do it here and downtown they should do it all over, equally no matter what

The dog park in Summit Park is a great place to take your dog(s) but some people abuse the system. They will stay there for extended periods of time, not clean up after their dogs & leave plastic toys strewn about. My dog tends to eat these toys so I have to get to them first & return them to crate that's hanging on the entry fence.

I've been bringing my dog to this park for 5 years now & I just want to remind everyone that uses the dog park or just walks their pets on the trails, PLEASE pick up your dog's "duty"!

Alley graffiti between 51st and Massasoit/Major today

About half a dozen garages between Massasoit/Major on 51st were tagged last night/early this morning. One has a distinctly threatening message of "How safe do ya feel?" scrawled in red across one garage door. A word that appears to be "DABS", also in red, is scrawled underneath it. I will report this both to Burke's office and the CPD.

  • Chicagodan South Side/North Side

Cristian, thank you for reporting this. I've included it in my online reporting to the City.

  • Please keep us updated to any other graffiti that you see in our area. As the Garfield ridge neighborhood watch likes to stay on top of these.

Spring cleaning time!

Now that those huge piles of snow have melted, it's time to get out our push brooms and clean up after Mother Nature.
Also, why doesn't the city put out trash cans by bus stops?
While walking my dog by Adam's Furniture I found a full DD coffee cup and McDonald's pop cup sitting on the bench. If there had been a place to toss them perhaps they wouldn't be where people could sit down.
Emptied and walked to the nearest ally gondola.

  • Chicagodan South Side/North Side

People were leaving all kinds of trash at the Archer and Menard bus stop. I called Zalewski's office for a trash can at that site and got one.

  • srapach Rutherford Ave resident

I attended the Garfield Ridge Civic meeting and was told by the super it wasn't needed at that location.

To all our supporters,

I would like to personally thank everyone who has helped my mother Anna Goral on her campaign making phone calls, displaying Anna’s signs, and most importantly giving us your support. We were campaigning against an enormous force that if you were to combine our forces with Martin Arteaga’s forces, it wouldn’t even compare to half the force of the opposition. We had a vision to update the neighborhood with different amenities and use our business experience to do just that. However, we were unable to overcome the massive force that lay before us.

I would like to personally congratulate Martin Arteaga for being a kind and sincere candidate. He is a great visionary with a passion to change our community for the better.

Martin, you did a swell job, keep your chin up high…

Mr. Madigan, you have an immaculate force and you’re a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations, Sir. Although, I do not agree with the individual you chose to support. I hope one day you will support a candidate that is more deserving of your support, and can run off their record.

Many of our supporters asked us how we are handling this defeat. Not all battles can be won, you can merely try your best. Simply said, “It is, what it is”. I have met so many great people and made so many new friends. I am so thankful to all those who spent so many hours away from their families helping us. The respect our supporters have shown is heartfelt and I feel blessed to personally know you all.

All the looks in the eye with the firm hand shakes. The gratitude and respect you all have shown is more gratifying than winning an election. I would rather die a hero then live as a coward.

Sincerely,

Thomas Goral

More than a decade ago I was an election judge at 3 different precincts. At that time, the way a judge verified that a voter was legit was to compare the signatures on their application to vote that day with a copy from their voter registration -- which could have been signed 20 or 30 years before! Definitely not a good way to verify identity, since signatures change over time.

I think a bigger problem is the precinct captains getting absentee ballots for their voters, and if the voters are elderly or not too literate in English, the precinct captains end up completing the ballots for them.

I personally know of a woman in her late 80s who couldn't pass the vision test for driving, whose precinct captain 'helped' her with her absentee ballot (though this was not in the mayoral election, it was in the one in Nov 2014).

And unfortunately, many people of that generation are too nice or too scared to tell the precinct captain that they will find someone else to help them.

It would be interesting to get some statistics by ward on absentee ballots vs. support for machine candidates.

  • If you know a woman in her late 80s who needed help with her ballot, why didn't you help her John? Seems like your so quick to throw digs at the precinct captains when all he most likely did was help her with her absentee ballot application, also if your...

Seems like your so quick to throw digs at the precinct captains when all he most likely did was help her with her absentee ballot application, also if your so concerned her ballot was filled out correctly, make sure she didn't want the "machines" candidate elected in the first place. For the record....my mom who is 70 has no problem telling the Precinct captains to go away. I don't think they're that "nice" or "scared" to tell someone to get off their porch.

  • Ohh...I have something to say:

Excerpt from Editorial in Chicago Tribune, 2/25/15, p.18

"Many of the incumbents who benefitted from the mayoral-linked political action committee Chicago Forward were successful. The committee dumped last-minute money and resources into more than a dozen races, including that of Ald. Michael Zalewski...; Zalewski cruised to victory along with Emmanuel allies...".

Sore "winner"

I pass down 63rd everyday to and from work. Martin Arteaga's painting was covered up by the city not even 24hrs after the election was over. If the alderman can get that done he should be able to do that will all the graffiti around there too. The East Side is not on his list of priorities. I'm disappointed that he won because I know things will not improve on either side side of our ward.

LAUGH, LAUGH--or MUTE, MUTE, MUTE (any and all of your future comments)-- the whining comment you just made here and your pathetic attempt at conveying your 'patriotic' nature and 'desire to contribute' to the conversation on this site (when it is clear you are not, and have done neither)!

Question about School

My son's school St Rene is closing down. I am deciding between St Joes and St Jane, can you tell me which is the better school and why?

  • Jennifer W 63rd St

I need all day Pre-K and for CPS they charge 12,000 for All Day Pre-K. I really liked St Joes and am leaning towards the school.

  • Gloria Dei Lutheran School, 5259 s. Major Ave. will be having an Open House on March 22 from 1-3pm. Yes, we have children from other faiths attending our school. If you are looking for a school which can offer a Christian Education, please consider us. All attendees will also receive a Ice Cream Sundae just for attending. :)
