Police: 2 Dead, 18 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

Jackson,of the 1400 block of North Lotus, was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center at 1:21 a.m. Saturday, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

The 24-year-old man was shot in the shoulder about 3:45 p.m. during an argument with another man in the 1400 block of North Massasoit, police said.

The male, whose exact age was not immediately available, was found with a gunshot wound to the head about 5:20 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw, according to police.

About 10:50 p.m., 36-year-old Courtney Jackson and another man were in a car in the 1100 block of North Springfield, when someone walked up and fired shots in their direction, police said. The shooter then ran away.

The shooting happened about 6:35 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Diversey, according to preliminary information from police.

About 10:10 p.m., Grand Crossing District officers on patrol near 71st Street and Paxton Avenue heard shots fired and saw a van speeding away from the area, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

The officers chased the man — identified as Jeffery Kemp — to 74th Street and Merrill Avenue and ordered him to drop the weapon, but instead he turned around and pointed it at the officers, authorities said. An officer then fired two shots, striking the man.

Kemp, of the 7400 block of South Jeffery, was dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.

At 6:35 a.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old woman and a man in his 20s were walking in the 2700 block of North Lavergne Avenue, when a car pulled up and a man got out and fired multiple shots, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man told police he was walking in the 100 block of West 127th Street when he heard shots and felt pain, Cooper said.

A 43-year-old man was shot in his head in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Further details were not immediately available.

Following the shooting police taped off a stretch of Washtenaw Avenue near 24th Street and investigated a minivan parked near the corner.

In non-fatal shootings, two people were wounded in the 2700 block of North Lavergne Avenue early Sunday in the Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The man told police he was walking in the 100 block of West 127th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood when he heard gunfire and felt pain. The 21-year-old drove himself to Roseland Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.
