Empty Storefronts on Clybourn (b/w Fullerton and Ashland)

Does anyone have any info on what is being done with several of the empty storefronts on Clybourn between Fullerton and Ashland? Among some of the places that have closed and/or have been empty for awhile are the Harolds Fried Chicken Place, the place right next to that (says Illuminati on the stone), Polka, and the Nail Tyme salon just north of Fullerton. Marshfields Urban Grill is finally going to open in the old pizza spot at Clybourn and Marshfield, but other than that it seems that more is closing than not. Thanks for any info.

  • Add Starbucks (albeit awhile ago) and Spicy Monkey to the list of businesses that have closed on Clybourn. As previously mentioned, I'd imagine the rents as well as the rules and red tape which the city typically forces leasers to deal with are very prohibitive.

  • Sucks that no new news has popped up about ace bar. I DID notice a ladder and some things going on in that former starbucks on webster though! Also add that websters wine bar moved out and who knows what's going on with that taq haus joint.... On a positive...

Sucks that no new news has popped up about ace bar. I DID notice a ladder and some things going on in that former starbucks on webster though! Also add that websters wine bar moved out and who knows what's going on with that taq haus joint.... On a positive note it looks like they are breaking ground on those aforementioned units next to taco burrito house on fullerton ( 24 units) and theres been tons of infill on montana row. Hopefully this density will help businesses thrive in the vicinity.

Trim Carpenter?

I had a water leak (ugh) through the top of my sliding glass door and I need to find a carpenter (a trim carpenter, I think) to replace the water damaged wood around the top and side of the window frame. Has anyone had this type of work done who can recommend a service provider? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • Mr. Eric near north full timer

You just need a good carpenter. Call Tom at 7735929150. Tell him Eric from orchard park recommended him to you. Good luck.

  • You can also have Salvador at JD construction quote you on your job. He used to be the main contractor at Master Handyman so look up the reviews on yelp. His cell is 773-620-4115. He does great work and is reasonable. He has done 6 projects, large and small, and are very happy with his work.

  • You might give TrimLogic a call. They specialize in custom trim work. Might be more specialized than what you need, but thought you might want to take a look.

Fantasy football draft party

I'm looking for a spot to hold a fantasy football draft party this year. Preferably a sports bar with wifi. Any suggestions?

  • Ty T Native Texan. 5 years in LP.

Not a sports bar, but the new place Beermiscuous is really cool and I think they have a little private room you can book. Or you can probably just hang out on the couches and drink awesome beer while drafting.

Electric Supplier Choice Confirmation (Notice from ComEd)

Received a letter from ComEd stating:" We have received notice that your electric supplier of choice is being changed to Integrys Energy Services, Inc......Your electric supplier may have been changed as part of a governmental aggregation program managed by your municipality, county or township."

Did anyone else get this?

We definitely didn't proactively opt in or opt out of anything, so I'm guessing we were switched automatically. Not sure of the ramifications of this. Thoughts?

  • Interesting. Integrys didn't even show up as an option when I went to that site and typed in my zip code. Hopefully, the differences between all the companies are nominal.

  • Be careful what you read on the internet. There's a lot of discussion of the rates for Integrys that were set last March. Back then there were only two monthly fees: $22.36 or $9.06. In July. the city renegotiated the deal with Integrys and there are now 10 different fee...

Be careful what you read on the internet. There's a lot of discussion of the rates for Integrys that were set last March. Back then there were only two monthly fees: $22.36 or $9.06. In July. the city renegotiated the deal with Integrys and there are now 10 different fee tiers.

I am also sure that someone will point you to this calculator:
    http://www.chicagopowercalculator.com/
which uses the old outdated rates and will not give you an accurate answer for the new rates.

The Illinois Commerce Commission has a long list of available alternative suppliers here
    http://www.pluginillinois.org/offers.aspx?said=1
But note that the list does not include municipal aggregation deals like the one with Integrys.

There is a discussion of the new rates and what to do here:
    https://chicago.everyblock.com/announcements/jul23-integrys-yes-no-6274153/
I hope you will read through that thread and if you still have any questions ask over there.

LOST: Backpack & Bike

My boyfriend was in a bike accident on Saturday night, somewhere around the Wrightwood and Clark area--he says it was one of the side streets, but he can't remember exactly. The hospital nor the police claim to have his things. He had a black and white bike, a helmet, a brown camouflage backpack with his wallet, keys on a green Roosevelt keychain, and his phone in a green and white case.

  • Neighborly1~ Values community.

I hope he is doing OK. And that you find his backpack and belongings.

  • I live one block East. I'm so sorry! I'll keep a look out!

  • When my husband had his near-fatal bike accident, the CFD took his bike and kept it safe at their station. I went there & picked it up a week or so later. Maybe the station on Halsted & Diversey attended to your boyfriend?

Street people sleeping and hanging out, etc, in doorways 2300-2400 N. Clark

There have been street people sitting and sleeping in doorways in front of residential and commercial buildings morning, noon and night, making those leaving and approaching these buildings feel unsafe. This is concerning occupied residential entryways, occupied commercial storefronts, as well as vacant ones Verbal remarks and comments to residents add to this area not being a very pleasant area to live. There is also evidence of human feces surrounding these buildings. Anyone have ideas on appropriate action to address this matter?

  • Bob

Another thing the 19th Police District has done is scout the parks after 11PM for homeless, street people, vagrants, etc. These organized forays into the park were (are?) organized by Alderman James Cappleman’s office. The police, with the Dept. of Family and Support Services, would enter the park, round up vagrants, check them for outstanding warrants, and offer housing and other assistance. For every twenty found, one would accept help. The others cursed out the police and Family Services.

  • Art

Attend a community policing meeting (CAPS) meeting and voice your concerns to the police who are assigned to your beat. You should be able to find CAPS information on-line or call you Alderman's office about scheduled meetings. The police can give you advice and suggestions about how to deal with the situation. In my experience, they are going to tell you to call the police.
