Dog Sitter?

Many good reviews and a couple good leads on rover.com, but we're curious to know if any LP neighbors here can recommend a good dog sitter.

18X22 ROOM FOR RENT
May 1st

I am looking for a non-smoking, peace loving, cat friendly neat individual to rent a beautiful room in an amazing Arts & Crafts building in the Fullerton and Western area; tree lined street, easy parking, tons of public trans, very safe neighborhood.

The 18X22 room is in the front of the apartment. It is very private, almost like having your own studio apartment. There is a faux fireplace, stained glass windows, ceiling fan, and the front of room is all windows, so lots of light. The apartment is on the second floor so it feels like you are in the trees. The room is large enough for sitting area, office, and bedroom area. Built-in book shelves. Beautiful!

The kitchen is huge and modernized, dish washer, walk in pantry, kitchen is furnished. The bathroom is also huge and very nice, clean, subway tiles, ceiling fan. The coin laundry is in basement. There is some storage available. OK for bike in basement, real safe. 3 units in the building, so the building is quiet. I have 2 cats. No more pets are allowed.

$650.00 per month everything included (rent, utilities, cleaning supplies etc. and housekeeping.) Phone & internet not included. $650.00 security deposit and references required. Apartment available May 1st (preferred) but could be as early as April 15th or as late as June 1st as well.

LOUD BOOM

Hey,

Did anyone hear a very loud boom in the middle of the night last night (03/22) in the alley off of 2500 N Lincoln avenue??? It woke me out of bed! Any idea what is was?

  • Jason1977 Pretty new to Pilsen

I don't live in the area, but many times i've heard similar. It almost always turned out to be a ComEd transformer blowing.

  • Agreed. We had a transformer blow near us last year and it was quite loud.

  • thanks all. That makes perfect sense

Permit question

We are in the process of buying a new duplex (yay!) and once everything is finalized will need/want to do some work on the unit including updating the kitchen and maybe some work on the above garage deck. I know a lot of the work will require city permits. Does anyone have advice on navigating those waters? We've only rented till now so I have no idea what we are getting into. Also any suggestions for designers and/or contractors is greatly appreciated! TIA!!!

  • M G brothers construction. Can't go wrong with this company doing your work. You will need an architect and drawings. They can point you in the right direction. If the building is landmarked the permit process lengthens. Good luck.

  • James Isberner principle- Chicago Ironman

I do this type of work all the time. I would be happy to meet with you and go over the process of any project that you are considering. My company is Chicago Ironman Builders. Give me a call and we can discuss your project.

  • Check out m olson architectural they do great work here in the city and can guide you through the permit process...it's always a pain dealing with the city but they navigate the waters well!

Undecided voters...what would get you to vote for either Mayoral candidate?

On the fence? Any one thing that would sway your opinion?

I don't know that I'm voting for Chui or Rahm. For me, I'd reconsider Rahm if he immediately implemented a Mayoral 2-term limit; and if he convinced the aldermen to implement a 3-term-limit on Aldermen (grandfathering existing Aldermen, oh, of course), I think he'd run away with the race. So much of the trouble we're in now could've been avoided if we didn't have a life-time Mayor sitting on fixing the major issues whilst hoping for good luck to occasionally sweep them away.

  • Nora H 11year Lakeview resident, member ELVN.

For some reason I can't seem to paste the link to a You Tube interview of David Orr talking about Rahm and the city finances. Look for it and see how the books are cooked and more on TIF money. You certainly don't get the whole story from the Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune.

  • Rahm has done something positive and helpful. He closed a bunch of expensive and ineffective schools and caught heck for it. The city has a huge dark financial cloud hanging over it. It doesn't matter who is mayor. Noone wants the real solution.

Earlier this afternoon, a couple guys appeared to be scamming an older Asian gentleman with a Lexus in the Walgreen's parking lot at Fullerton / Greenview.

Apparently, this type of scam is very common. Two individuals approach another individual and offer to repair a car dent for less than what it would cost in a bodyshop. Often times, the individual scammed goes to an ATM to withdraw cash to pay for the body work and the work done is shoddy and, often times, more money is requested to pay for the job.

I called 911 to report the possible incident; however, the Asian man and the scammers seemed to have parted ways before the police arrived.

The scammers appeared to be in a silver Chevy with a license plate that looked like R1460149 (from a distance). One scammer appeared to be of Latino descent with a goatee (I cannot remember that with 100% certainty). The other gentleman was a taller, skinnier fellow who was wearing a snow hat.

  • Saw these guys in the Costco parking lot (Clybourn & Damen) on Wednesday and reported it. This time it was a green minivan.

Weekend babysitter needed (Diversey and Ashland)

Hi Everyblock - we are new to the area & have a 2 yr old boy and 4 yr old girl. We'd love to find a babysitter who could occasionally watch the kids on a Sat night. Any age 8th grade or later works for us. Ideally close by in the Burley school district, but further is fine if she or he has a car. Please let me know if anyone is interested or knows someone! Thanks.

  • Sounds great! I'll send you a message. Please let me know if you don't get it.

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

Tracie - I strongly recommend (having your kids) call the Red Cross and find a Babysitting class. It's a great class, where they learn basic first aid and CPR, along with tips for entertaining little ones
