You can see where all the candidates raised money for their signs, paid staff, and volunteers on the Illinois State Board of Elections site. Will they be loyal to the residents of the 36th ward or to their large campaign donors?

Wrong mail AGAIN!

I received this in my mailbox today. Think I have received this person's mail before. Apparently the mail lady can not read streets and only numbers. Once again I will return it to her. If this person is on here jeep an eye out for your bill. I have emailed the post USPS and am waiting for a response now. I also told them I will continue doing their job for them as long as I get a check!

New Grocery Store just South of Diversey on Laramie's East side.

From the signage on the new awnings installed on the building at the SE corner of Diversey and Laramie it looks like we're getting a new grocery store there called Pancho's. What's odd is there are still "For Rent" signs in the windows.

  • Juan C. Ayala Belmont Cragin Resident

Is this the same building with the Cell phone store that's already open?

  • Kapel Local Resident

Yes, the new cell phone shop is where the florist sat burned out for years. The new grocery store will be on the Laramie side.

Sol De Mexico recommended

We may not be considered an entertainment district with a lot of great restaurants and pubs like Edison Park or Logan Square but we have a restaurant of entertainment district quality in our midst. We tried Sol De Mexico last night and were very impressed and will definitely go back. The food was above average and so was the Tequila :-)

What we love about the NW side is that after a long commute (1-2 hours 1 way) we can park the car and walk to some good places for dinner and relax. CHICAGONEWBIE; when we don't mind a short drive we generally head to 6-Corners (LasTablas, Sabatino's, etc.), Irving/Austin-Portage Park (Portage Grounds, Percolater, Ledbelly's, Sutherland's) or Logan Square (Harding Tap etc.) These areas, amongst others, have made big comebacks in recent years. Cragin, unfortunately is a different type of area so it's great to see some good establishments making a try and setting up shop here. We are anxiously awaiting the opening of Senor Pan at Diversey and LeClaire since it's only a block from home. MADOPAL; regretfully my wife and I were originally hesitant to try Sol-De-Mexico over the years that it's been there because it's kind of a fish out of water on Cicero Ave. But we saw it promoted on one of the restaurant shows which mentioned the Bib award. Now we know what we were missing, we will definitely be back there. And yes, we want to support local establishments like this so that they stay here and help the neighborhood and so that we have nice places to walk to. CHICAGONEWBIE; Glad you had a chance to check Sol-DeMexico out! I'm going to post in another thread about some other local places we tried in the Cragin area too. Yes, we too are willing to pay a little more to eat or shop locally and hopefully attract more independent businesses other than cell phone stores, pawn shops, etc. Alderman...........you've got a point there, but that also is a topic for another thread.

Kapel, We try to hit Sol De Mexico a couple times a year and have never been disappointed!
I also hear great things about Cozy Corner at Diversey and Kostner.

Does anyone know anything about that nice looking deli (?) at 3116 N Cicero? For years it's looked like it is open for business but it's not. Looks real nice inside!

Zacateca's Restaurant and Magos Tacos & Tamale's

2 more good eating establishments to try in the Diversey and Laramie area are Zacateca's and Magos. Zacateca's has been well established at 5037 Diversey for several years. For a couple years the name was changed to El Jerzano but is now back to Zacateca's. It's another great local neighborhood restaurant with good food for reasonable prices. We have been frequenting Zacateca's for several years and were always happy. A new diner style Hispanic restaurant is Magos Tacos and Tamales...

For a couple years the name was changed to El Jerzano but is now back to Zacateca's. It's another great local neighborhood restaurant with good food for reasonable prices. We have been frequenting Zacateca's for several years and were always happy. A new diner style Hispanic restaurant is Magos Tacos and Tamales at 5211 Diversey. A neighbor recommended it to us for the tamales. Since then we've been picking up tamales by the bag full. Haven't tried the rest of the menu yet but will soon after the weather breaks. Both restaurants work great for us because of being walking distance from home.

Where are the plows?

I'm on the 2600 block of North Lavergne and have yet to see a plow. How are the side streets where you live?

  • I'm 5300 Wrightwood. Never saw a plow last year or currently this year. I did see a dump truck at Schubert/Long full of snow Monday which would be better to haul it away. I'm almost more concerned about the alleys. With people shoveling parking pads & clearing garages, snows piling up covering trashcans making the alleys narrower & making it more difficult to maneuver & back into our garages.

I live on Leclaire between Armitage and Fullerton and I saw a plow go down Leclaire last night and again 5 minutes ago.
