Come spend an hour with me at the local library to learn about how you can take control of your future with a successful team who will teach you how you can build your own business on the side as you continue with your day job (for now)- but eventually be able to quit and be the entrepreneur that you've always wanted to be but didn't have the funds to do it.
You can start part-time and have fun with us as you learn all skills you need.
In the meantime, think about some of your present challenges you'd like to change...write them down (too much stress, too many hours, not enough pay, not enough energy and good health for your retirement years!) You may come up with alot of them. We'll prioritize them and work on 'em together.

Bungalow chimney advice/recommendation

Hello Belmont-Cragin neighbors!

My husband and I bought our bungalow back in January and at the time we noticed the chimney, which is painted, looked as if it was peeling or flaking. Our home inspector said it was probably due to the house needing a new roof and chimney flashings. We had the roof and flashings replaced in April and the roofer said he thinks the chimney looks the way it does because of moisture pushing through the bricks from the inside as the boiler and got water heater vent through it.

2 questions:
Has anyone had this happen in their home, especially if you love in a bungalow?

Can anyone recommend a chimney expert/repair guy?

Thanks!

  • hkl Belmont-Cragin homeowner

    Will do Lujan.

  • Thank you, hkl. Be careful with whatever company you go with. Even being on Angie's List doesn't mean as much as people think.

New neighbor

Just moved to the neighborhood back in February. Not too pleased. Too difficult to find parking and neighbors obviously double parked. Shooting noises at night and the people from the building right in front look "shady"... I hope it gets better, my lease ends by May of next year but, I hate moving! I have a special baby and too many changes aren't good for the baby. We need to be as stable as possible. I am looking forward to buy my own place again. I really hope the neighborhood gets better.

I'm sorry you feel that way, it's never fun living where you're not happy. But there is light at the end of the tunnel come May. The fact that you're renting and didn't buy was a terrific move on your part. Good luck to you and your family.

  • Mayra, are you getting Early Intervention services for your "special baby"? Probably re, just making sure.

Free breakfast and lunch are available for children under 18 all summer across the state.

Free breakfast and lunch are available for children under 18 all summer across the state. Children and teens will not have to apply or show any proof of family income in order to receive a meal under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Meals program. They just need to show up.

Parents can search for sites by zip code at www.summerfeedingillinois.org, or by texting “FoodIL” “AlimentosIL” to 877-877 for details about the closest summer meal location.

If you know of anyone that this could help out, please feel free to share it.

Raise Your Hands is hosting a 2015 CPS budget rundown tonight at 6:30pm. Raise Your Hands will show you how to find the proposed budgets for your schools and talk about how you can speak out for your schools at the Wednesday budget meeting. You don't need to attend the meeting tonight to go to the budget hearings on Wednesday.

The CPS budget hearings are this Wednesday night at 6pm at Wright College, Malcolm X, and Kennedy King colleges. (Registration starts at 5pm). Why should you go speak out at this budget hearing? Because CPS is cutting the budgets for many of our public schools that our neighborhood children attend. We can't let them further weaken our public schools without putting up a fight.

Examples of some of the proposed cuts...

Kelvyn Park High School -$1.8 million
Belmont-Cragin Early Childhood -$1.6 million
Steinmetz H.S. -$448,000
Northwest Middle School -$ 313,000
Reinberg -$30,000
Thorp -$ 275,000
Foreman -$728,000
Schurz - $711,000
Department of Academic learning and Support- City wide -$75,000,000
Department of Diverse learners Support and Services -$88,000,000

Fireworks illegal?

You'd never know fireworks illegal....there going off all the time now. I don't care for the noise, the mess, the danger....better things for my neighbors to spend their money on.
