The Riot Fest!?!?

My mom is 70 years old and it sucks she can't enjoy the park she pays so much property taxes for!!! I guess it's the hell with Latinos!!! And I like to know why all Puerto Rican festivals don't have a liquor license but the Riot fest did?!?! Is it cause it's mostly whites attending?!? Just wondering?!?!?

  • MakeChicagoSafe- You mentioned in your original post that your 70 year Mom is paying high taxes. Immediately you were given advice on how to handle that. Did you thank any of those people? No.

MakeChicagoSafe- You mentioned in your original post that your 70 year Mom is paying high taxes. Immediately you were given advice on how to handle that. Did you thank any of those people? No.

Then you mention how "why all Puerto Rican festivals don't have a liquor license but the Riot fest did?!?!" and bring race into this discussion. It is clearly mentioned that PR Fest had a liquor license for a beer tent for the last 2 years.

And now you are writing about Riot Fest is a main force of gentricification of HP. Really? HP is a diverse neighborhood and that is why I have lived in the vicinity for over 18 years. Why are you using phrases like "the occupation of Hispanic and black neighborhoods by white people is for their own good because there was and is something wrong with them!!!" HP was originally settled by Germans and Poles hence the name Humboldt Park.

Your screen name is "MakeChicagoSafe" and I honestly don't know if that fits you from your writing. What are you doing to improve this neighborhood? Even if you may disagree with RF, you have to admit they are doing some good work with various donations for this neighborhood. This information has been posted on another thread if you are inclined to read. If you are looking for places to spend some of that energy how about attending some CAPS meetings, HP Advisory Council, helping local Seniors put freezes on their Property Taxes, Casa Norte (they help homeless teen youth) or many of the other organizations in the neighborhood.

Enough has been posted about Riot Fest, let's spend our energy elsewhere.

  • This was originally posted by Mike on another thread regarding Riot Fest:

Here's a little reading for those who don't think Riot Fest is worthwhile or giving anything back to the community. If you can't see the benefits, it's just because you don't want to, because they're definitely there, and they're a great asset to the community.

Bullhorn! Spaulding and Division, ahhhhhh!

I'm gonna rip the bullhorn out of that kids hand on Spaulding and Division. I asked these idiots to stop with this yesterday, but no. I'm not traditionally a complainer and I love Riot fest. I wish I could hear crazy loud music, but I don't. I can't hear anything but this little jerk yelling, "Riot fest parking, riot fest paaarrrrkkkkinggggg!!!" down at the most unfriendly church parking lot ever. Blocking off the street??? making a tidy profit and a Sh*t ton of noise. My goodness, way to take advantage. I don't want to hear a peep of complaining from that group EVER! I'm done venting now, but I might call 311.

Radius of a No Loitering sign..

I need to put up a No Loitering sign on my fence. Does anyone have any experience they can share? Can they just cross the street and be cleared from the sign violation? I've asked these guy's to find another place to sit around and now since they have absolutely nothing better to do. .. they actually PURPOSELY make it a point be there when I get home from work to taunt me and my family...has anyone ever had success getting their loiter's arrested?

Prayer Vigils against violence at Crystal & Keeler

Hi all, about fifty neighbors and supporters gathered at Crystal & Keeler for a prayer vigil this past Wednesday, the one before that, and the one before that! Alderman Emma Mitts came out to show her support, and DNA Info covered the vigil: http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20140821/west-humboldt-park/humboldt-park-elders-new-neighbors-mourn-after-11-murders-2014.

We are looking for a choir to join us next week! Please contact me if you think you might be able to lend your support.

A new facebook page was created as a brand new forum to continue a long history of community organizing in the neighborhood: https://www.facebook.com/4100CrystalBlockClub
