Steady Eddie: Your whole analysis is off because you are lumping "people of color" together as a voting block. Karen Lewis was a surprise candidate to begin with and there is no evidence indicating that she would have strong turnout in Hispanic wards. The same can be said of Garcia and African-American wards. The backing of the CTU is about the pro-labor vote. Whatever you may say about "CTU-subservient" candidates and any particular union, the truth is that many who do not belong to unions aren't thrilled with politicians who ride roughshod over unions. In a time when the inequity of wealth distribution is greater than any time since 1920, you don't have to be progressive or pro-union or socialist or espouse any particular political philosophy to ask yourself which candidates really understand the bigger picture. All you need to do is to look around you. Better yet, look at the map of how median income has changed in Chicago communities from 1970-2010 at https://voorheescenter.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/a-deepening-divide-income-inequality-grows-spatially-in-chicago/

This is not the prosperous and economically booming city that I grew up in. Chicago is no longer a city with a growing middle-class spatially spread across the area. Of course, this is not a local problem. And it is not the only issue by which to judge the two candidates. But, given the bigger picture of the wealth inequity that is strangling our economy and making our candidates beholden to the highest bidder, I have to ask myself which candidate wants a more democratic city government and has labor interests in his heart.

Water Metersave Program

I had the new water meter installed in September of 2014. When my payment credit ran out (rather quickly), I got a pretty large bill. Our usage averages about 50 gallons a day. Our bill figures to 169 gallons a day. Found out the water dept. automated phone system has a different meter number than ours. Was wondering if anyone might know a shortcut to the maze I am about to enter in order to correct this and adjust 6 months of billing.
Thanks

  • me

Dan, this is good to know since my credit also ran out rather quickly ...in only 2 billings! I'll have to check my meter numbers. Never thought of that. There are only 3 people in this house and 2 of those work all day so where is all the water being used? All I can suggest is to contact the media if you don't get very far in your efforts. Good luck to you and let us know how it turns out.

  • Kath Kath

I know that when they came and installed ours they showed me how to read the meter. There is something on the meter that can tell you if water is running or not. If it shows water is running (which also means the meter is running) when there is nothing on in the house then there is a leak somewhere. You may want to look at your actual meter and see if it's running all the time for a leak somewhere. Otherwise they overcharged you.

Fioretti, Don't you know when to drop out. Rahm 46% of vote so far. Fioretti 7%. 46 plus 7 equals 53% could have been to Rahm. Now more months to waste on campaign adds. Rahm your English negative campaign on Chuy let Non English speaking people see Chuys face all over the place and didn't have a clue if it was good or bad and Chuy learn how to say the word afford. Both F's should be heard.

  • @Merc- Fioretti's voters despise Emanuel. They would vote for Garcia, Wilson, or Walls before they'd cast a ballot for Emanuel.

If you think the majority of Chuy's voters don't speak English you are as clueless as your buddy Emanuel.

What's happening with can openers?

Electric and handheld can openers are not opening cans without flip tops. Neither my husband or I are having much success. Anybody else having this problem, explain your situation. If you're having no problems with this, let me know what you are using to open cans and perhaps include the brand name. What gives???? I'm baffled!

  • I'm disabled and that's just a little thing in life that annoys me. My other problems can't be fixed here.

  • I purchased the Kuhn Rikon via QVC and just used it. I was hardly turning and I didn't even hear a puncture, I didn't think it was working because there was nothing to it. I decided to check it and it worked. I barely grabbed the edge with the little lifter and the lid came right off. Thank you everybody for your ideas and I'm so glad I asked.
