Tree Cutting 60644

Does anyone know why so many random trees are being cut down in Austin, especially on tree lined streets closest to Austin Blvd. It seems so random. Tree trimming crews descend upon the community each spring and trim the same trees repeatedly throughout the summer. Does anyone know why so many random trees are being cut down in Austin, especially on tree lined streets closest to Austin Blvd. It seems so random. Tree trimming crews descend upon the community each spring and trim the same trees repeatedly throughout the summer. They butchered the Maple tree in front of my neighbors house while she was at work a few times in one summer. It was literally only half a tree before they stopped. In addition to our crime watch we now have a "tree watch" on our block. Retired neighbors or anyone at home keep a look out for rogue city crews. It sounds funny (or like a weird metaphor) but now the crews are taking down young and mature trees and leaving stumps behind. Called the alderman's office...no response yet. Is this happening in any other areas?

Idiots taking red lights

So I recently moved to Austin and there has been 2 occasions in which cars take the red light and have almost been in a car accident. The first one the lady driving braked on time as well as I did to prevent an accident. A few minutes ago the idiot driving didn't even attempt to brake by Jackson and Kedzie he took the red light at a high speed. My light was 5 seconds from turning red and his...

A few minutes ago the idiot driving didn't even attempt to brake by Jackson and Kedzie he took the red light at a high speed. My light was 5 seconds from turning red and his was solid red not yellow turning red. To top it off there was a cop car a few blocks behind and a few blocks ahead and I guess neither saw that turd. I know some ppl are against red light cameras but after these incidents I support red light cameras all the way.

Gloria, Well I can already see this neighborhood sucks. Not only with the people who don't respect laws but everything else. I love ordering food and having it delivered to my house and the delivery choices around here are wack. There seems to be a liquor store on every corner, no lie. Going back to the main topic, if it's only winter and it's like this I can already imagine the summer all the drivers and pedestrians that will not obey traffic signs. Sadly there's people like that everywhere I lived in Wicker Park, West town and Belmont Cragin and there's irresponsible drivers everywhere. It's even more sad when stuff like this happens near schools. There was one time I was a block away from approaching a stop sign and a boy was going to cross and decided to wait to cross until I reached the stop sign thinking I wouldn't do a complete stop.

Daniel, I completely agree with you on how the red light cameras should be governed and how drivers' licenses should be taken away if they don't want to respect the rules of the road. I also understand the circumstances in which a person unintentionally would take a red light, but we are in Chicago and the possibility of changing the way red light cameras work seems distant. I feel that the city is more concerned and focused on ways to make more money than anything else.

Personally, I think the amplification of the problems here are proportional to the pessimistic outlook of those would be good neighbors. While there are those who are surely a menace to any society we have our share of tireless citizens; we just need to figure out how to take small victories and keep things moving in a positive direction. No good neighborhood just magically appears it is built on those who make small improvements when ever they get a chance; whether that is reporting criminal activity, sharing a kind word or great idea, to something as small as picking up some trash on the curbside.

Look around and see the scourge of blight in28

All who do not rally to get new representation deserve to live in the deplorable conditions we suffer under,

Do your best to help us break the scourge in 28 over the past 24 years.

    Nobody can deny stats.

The best tools are early voting where one can register And Vote on the same day. Go to the bBoard of elections site for requirements and ID. Going to a polling place outside of the ward is a Good idea to escape the spies and any potential intimidation and retaliation.

Rumors abound about rough intimidation by thugs and how scarey it is. Others talk a out someone showing up at their door asking them to recant their signature to get on the ballot. Those are also fearful.

why west side of Chicago not historical?

I been in Chicago for over 40yrs and I currently live in West Garfield neighborhoods and IM appaul that Obama didn't pick other neighborhoods for historical District. What about K Town, North Lawndale,Austin. We are suspose to come together not stay divided and with Pullman being name makes me wonder do anybody see all crimes in all neighborhoods or do we have our blinders on. President Obama should never have to pick due to his previous address he should put libraries in Chicago westeside,Washington,&Hawaii. We should at least get library in North Lawndle since Pullman beat us out as historical. When we gone fix Chicago instead of remodelling it..ijs smh.

28th Ward: Why We Need A New Alderman

This is first in a series of posts
advocating the removal of Jason Ervin as 28th Ward Alderman.
Point 1: Appointed Not Elected
Ervin was forced upon the 28th Ward by its former undistinguished Alderman Ed Smith. The ward declined dramatically under his tenure. Blight, unemployment and extraordinary levels of violence was the norm.
The ward has had little input into its political leadership. Daley appointment of Ervin has increased its decline, while communities adjacent to the ward...Wicker Park, Austin, Little Village, and Near West, has sustained economic ,community and commercial growth.
Next Point.. Ervin and Public Unsafety

28th Ward Write In Alderman Candidate

What are we going to do?
Allow the worst Alderman in the city to
win by default?
Can we force him into a run off?
Are we going to support write off candidates?
Are we going to allow Ed Smith and the political machine to exploit the senior vote?
Do we toss in the towel?
Do I need to finally list my property and get out of the 28th ward?
Please advise...

  • Did Ervin even receive ANY endorsements?
Who are we going to write in, and when are the write in candidates going to get serious about campaigning?
