City Shelter Dogs/Cast to be Killed Even Faster-- Thanks to City Council!

Just read this Ed's column (Paw Print's) in the local City Newshound:

http://www.citynewshound.today/a-petition-on-behalf-of-chicagos-pets/

The article reveals the resolution/ordinance that the City Council approved,
which will shorten the days dogs and cats are allowed to live before they are
killed (for dogs, from 5 down to 3; cats given 0 days, unbelievably)!

Here also, is the petition's direct link:

Please sign it and demand that the
city council rescind this resolution (that was supposed to be vetted before
us-- city constituents-- but never was)....

Let's let them know NOW, they made a huge mistake in ignoring us!

Please consider this everyone--
Is it O.K. for city shelter dogs and cats to be killed even faster (than the measly few days they previously have been allotted)? Is it fine to force them now to lose a couple more days of life-- AND the hope that they could find a home, or that their owners would have a couple extra days to find them before they are put to death?!

If you too, find this abhorrent,, please do sign the aforementioned petition, and please do contact--at least--your alderman and mayo, if not all of the alderman-- to let them know--personally-- how you feel about this devastating action against innocent animals:

Lnk to all 50 city alderman's emails):
https://chicago.legistar.com/People.aspx

http://www.citynewshound.today/category/paw-prints/

  • I can't believe this, cat have zero days ! What the hell is Chicago that cold and heartless, all my cats and dogs have been adopted. Now they are just going to kill cats as they get them? I am ashamed of my city.

  • Do they check for microchips???

SW-side Continues to Bury Head in Sand as Gov Quinn Gives $50,000,000 for Trails

As a former resident of Archer Heights and a former board member of the Archer Heights Civic Association, .... I told you so!

When will the leaders of the Sw-side wake up? When will the people of the SW-side (Archer Heights, Garfield Ridge, Clearing) wake up? As a former resident of Archer Heights and a former board member of the Archer Heights Civic Association, .... I told you so!

When will the leaders of the Sw-side wake up? When will the people of the SW-side (Archer Heights, Garfield Ridge, Clearing) wake up? There was a reason why I championed for a bicycle and nature path for many years. There was a reason why I repeatedly sought to meet with Ald.Burke, Ald. Zalewski, Cong. Lipinski. There was a reason why I repeatedly tried to get the 'leaders' of the AHCA to support a bicycle path. If only for the reason to give energetic youth someplace to blow off steam rather than by breaking into garages and other 'crime'. But then the local papers wouldn't have much to write about.

Everyone knows (or they find out the hard way after years of trying) that to get anything done in Archer Heights one needs to have the 'leaders' figuratively present the idea on a platter of promissory votes to who ever is the alderman at the time (pick one from the above). The more pomposity the better. Yes?

One prostitute, two prostitute, three prostitute, four. Apparently there isn't enough time between counting prostitutes on 47th & Cicero or trying to get a 'senior discount' from the local politicians to champion any other cause.

The SW-side, Archer Heights specifically is the land where politicians go to retire before they retire. It's a community where one with just a HS education is comfortable. Check out the last census. Wasn't Gov Quinn a guest at the AHCA meeting earlier this year?

A bicycle path people. It's easy. Have the conversation, interest and preliminary design on the shelf ready to go for moments like this!

Candidates of the 23rd ward, 2014 elections ... where do you stand on this?

  • Chet 606 Rogers Park, NOHavana, CE

Wow! The SW side, specifically the 23rd ward, came out of a tough aldermanic election. Now finally we could move forward with the rebirth of the SW-side. OK Alderman Zalewski, show us your true colors.

    Everyone, please take this survey!

Our cable TV is too expensive.

Our cable TV is too expensive for what we use, and it just went up. We need good Internet for work and school, but we only watch a few channels these days. I was researching options. My buddy told me about a site that finds service with TV channels you watch:www.10channels.com. It found a TV/Internet combo that would saves us $40 with a switch to Direct. There's also a good option for ATT.

I want to call the number and make the change. Just wondering if any of you have Directv or ATT Internet? Any advice is helpful.

Lowering my cable TV Bill.

We finally finished renovations to our house and just moved back in. I'd like your advice. We bought a new connected TV and would like to simplify our tv package with some streaming services. I learned from: www.10channels.com that all the channels we watch are in a basic TV package. We would like to downgrade our package or switch to Comcast bundle w/ high speed internet. It also mentioned SlingTV as a good option for us. Who has the best internet in our area and what are some good streaming providers? All ideas are welcome.

  • Hey Doug, i have Direct TV and AT&T and they both work great! With my Business I offer essential services such as Com-Ed, Peoples Gas, Direct TV, Dish, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and much more at discounted rates.Let me know if you are interested and i can give you more details. Have a great Day!

  • Hi Doug. thank you for sharing. I clearly am in the same boat as you because I pay so much for tv services and don't watch that much. I use comcast and could switch to a lower package and still get everything I want. Thanks for sharing. good luck.

(beyond watching out for local lost/stray animals in your neighborhood, adopting pets, donating $ to animal causes, volunteering at shelters)?

Then, I invite you to check out-- and join (it's free) this very rewarding website I discovered and joined last year, called ANIMAL PETITIONS (Humans Defending Animals from Other Humans):

http://animalpetitions.org/

You might not think 'signing' petitions helps anything, but that
is simply not true....This site gives feedback on success stories
due to petition-signing; it thanks other animal activists and
legislators and others who can help intercede for animals; it helps
push through laws to protect them, beyond highlighting
important current issues and causes needing our attention, it helps the future welfare of animals.

When you sign up (free), you get at most 2 weekly emails of
the various petitions (some overlap). It takes minutes to sign
through the list (I just use a short nickname and last initial, then
cut and paste my address on the 2nd line-- its fast).

I can attest, that signing up and signing these petitions will leave you with a sense of accomplishment on behalf of helping animals everywhere (not only dogs, cats, but wildlife, nationally and world-wide, while informing you of the world-wide state of animal welfare, plus stopping crimes and hold animal abuse criminals accountable.

And, though the various stories are sometimes shocking and heart-
wrenching, you CAN and DO help animals by 'signing for them' and giving
them your voice on their benefit.

I hope you will join me in this great way to volunteer a few minutes per week for the love of animals....

Heard this report recently about the growing trend of transporting the highly touted, yet volatile 'fracked' oil (not like heavy black crude, but a very unstable compound of oily extract embedded with explosive gasses--e.g. methane, etc.).

The old DOT 1-11 train tankers (built in the '60s to transport products like corn syrup) have been carrying Ethanol shipments and now this 'new and explosive oil', increasingly.

I urge you to read or listen to this report and consider contacting your state representative (e.g. Lipinski) about your concerns (if you have them). I know, I know..."the odds are.that it won't happen here...". But tell that to the relatives of the 47 people who died in Canada not to long ago, in just such a tank-car explosion-- 5 of them incinerated beyond recognition! Plus, similar explosive accidents in AL, VA, W.VA) involving these trains.

At the very least, the next time you're out walking or biking or driving, and you get
stopped at one of our local train crossings, consider standing WAY back, or turning around and heading for the viaduct!

And, as aggravating as being held up in traffic by the train is, this explosive 'oil'-transport issue sure trumps it!

  • I will say nothing more

  • Sorry I gotta say one more thing. I just met ABC_123 and believe me SHE is not Paulino

  • Ohh...I have something to say:

Excerpt from Editorial in Chicago Tribune, 2/25/15, p.18

"Many of the incumbents who benefitted from the mayoral-linked political action committee Chicago Forward were successful. The committee dumped last-minute money and resources into more than a dozen races, including that of Ald. Michael Zalewski...; Zalewski cruised to victory along with Emmanuel allies...".

'contributing' to this site, when the only thing he contributes is his diatribes, put-

can read through (quickly!) all his sordid commentary.

Now, you can join me in MUTING him-- and all his Frankenstonian creations here:
(and you can MUTE and ALL his names by clicking on each and every one-- they will take you to each tagname page, you just scroll down, and you will see at the very bottom, a button to click to 'mute' him-- and having to see any further comments he posts under these various tagnames.

At the VERY LEAST you will not have to deal with this 'off--balanced' individual who
believes he is SO sharp (when he is nothing more than a little 'Cyber Bully'.

So, without further adieu-- you are invited to join me in removing this guy off this site
(and if he will not be removed by Everyblock by citing of his bully-game, he CAN and
WILL be MUTED-- by me). I NEVER want to read his ignorant comments again.

The following quote IS indeed, an excerpt of one of his past postings on Everyblock.

"My name is Alexander Oscar Campillo Capio aka Gigo. ...I create false accounts like David Divine, Garfield Ridge Nurse, Ty Webb, Maryfromtheblock,Pandora's Rack,abc_773... I just change the names or create new ones since they get deleted. I am also trying to make Goral look bad because I want people to vote for Zalewski."

    Chucks still here--

I get it that they're "two different" sign-ups on this site (as their public profiles here indicate-- which anyone can click on by clicking onto the tagname). That STILL does not mean the same person could not sign up under various tagnames (even IF
they also invented some of those tagnames or actually 'appropriated them/stole them' from others on this site, by claiming so in their comment (at bottom).

And, EVEN IF they ARE 2 validly different people, anyone with some insight can detect that they speak with 'one voice' (& a harsh, derogatory, non-contributive,
    trouble-making one at that)!

Don't believe me, go and read through all their posts & especially attacks on others (usually bullying put-downs of anyone who dares disagree or challenges them). THAT in itself is the definition of a 'Cyber Bully'. and is not only AGAINST EVERYBLOCK's stated policy in running this community blog, it
is a hijacking and a destruction of valid community input and interchange among people.

That is why it is at this stage, a MOOT POINT whether they are the same
or different. The original fellow who posted this, used BOTH those tagnames (so, he
either invented them, stole them or IS them under false pretense).

Any which way, the commentary posted through the election cycle was EXTREMELY negative (and much if not most of it was perpetrated by this person & these tagnames as reprinted here):

Isn't it interesting Chuck, that BOTH those tagnames you refer to that I recently muted, are staunch Zalewski supporters too. You must be aware of that....

My Everyblock topic is the same headline used on Sunday,
in the Chicago Sun-times, for a column written by the newspaper columnist,
Mark Brown. Here is the link (once again posted, for others) to read that full article:

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/7/71/384388/southwest-side-alderman-resorts-race-baiting

I realize at least one commentator here already posted it, but it is important enough
to bear repeating; & remind constituents of the 23rd Ward that the incumbent
alderman is SO utterly corrupt, that has to be singled out in a major newspaper, for his lies, treachery, bashing of fellow aldermanic candidates and inciting racism to boot-!

It is clear, Z-- is beyond the point of redemption and he and his pathetic politics has got to leave this ward.

He deludingly must consider that-- repeating his corrupt tactics (similar
to his behavior in the prior election cycle four years ago) served him (and him alone) in the past, so, these vicious tactics bear repeating (and also, dreaming up even new ways to attack and bring down his opponents; even if it means falsely defaming them or attacking their very livelihood)!

My gad already, when are we going to wake up in this Ward?! This man should have been ousted long ago (and I said so then; he should have been removed when the corrupt Daley mayoral legacy ended-- who he was a lock-step lackey for, even as he is now is the same, for the Rahm-bomb game).

It is obvious, his lack of attendance at several ward candidate programs was a spit-in your-face, 23rd ward. As long as he can hold on to his 'tiny fiefdom', he doesn't give
a whit (even if he had any wits, except for corrupt politicking) about you or me, or any respect for his challengers names or reputations. as his cartoonish, buffoonery passing as mailers has shown.

Why he even stooped to inciting racism as 'a campaign slogan'! How pathetic can a politician be? Well, the irony is we already KNOW...

    Up2up2me:

It's hilarious that you're citing a comment as a fact to invalidate what I have to say. A comment is an opinion and certainly not a credible source.
