Milwaukee Construction Updates

Has anyone heard about any updates to the Construction on Milwaukee Ave? Completion dates, etc.

  • The fence they have across from Grayland stop and the tore up street and sidewalk across from the bar looks like that will be that way for a while. I know they have been working on the other side of the bridge.

  • Milwaukee will be repaved down to Addison.

Misericordia Candy Days This Weekend!

Misericordia Candy Days are Friday and Saturday this weekend! We will be at Six corners and are looking for some help. If you can walk the street for an hour or two either day, please stop by the green Jeep cherokee parked on Irving Park Road and talk to one of the Heneghans. We will be there from 7 am to 6 pm. Thanks!

Chicago Public Schools SY14-15 School Budgets Informational & Training Sessions info

Thu, Apr 24, 2014 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Hey fellow LSC'ers and public education friends,
CPS sent an email with the SY14-15 School Budgets Informational & Training Sessions info. These sessions are where CPS will reveal the operating budgets for our public schools for the next year. Last year, our neighborhood high schools lost several million dollars in budget money and this year doesn't look to be much different than last. On April 24 at 6pm at Schurz High School, join the informational session for the NW side and let CPS know how you feel about educational budget cuts.

has anyone heard anythng about the thai center that is suppose to go in the old 17th district police station? they were suppose to open more then 2 years ago. A couple of months ago they put up a sign that said coming soon but someone took the sign down

Arun Sampanthavivat was suppose to be opening a thai restaurant there and community center.

  • The sign wasn't taken down, it blew off when we had high winds.

  • Susan 3800 block N Ridgeway educator

This is a question for Marge Laurino. She was on a WBEZ show w Arun quite a while back talking about the help and support she'd given him to do this project. She should be asked how much of our tax dollars have been spent on this.

  • LauriNO is of no help. Never do I get a straight answer from her or her office. I just thought if someone heard anything they would share

Stolen item from garage

I had my CD case with about 80 CDs stolen from my car when it was parked in my garage on the 4100 block of N Tripp. It's very strange because nothing else was taken or disturbed. It looks like they got in from the door leading into the garage from my backyard. If anyone hears of anything similar or finds a large black CD case, please let me know.

  • Wicked Fast BMW Average Chicagoan who loves her city

I wish we could participate but alas we are in the 39th ward and we don't have anything like this. We have an alderman who doesn't really care to interact with us and of course if far too important to be on any social media site where her voters might actually hear something from her and be able to give input. Would it be easier to elect another alderman or to get redistricted into the 45th?

I'm pretty sure you too can nominate things at the survey monkey website. Of course you're voting on 45th Ward stuff but still.

Christmas is over!

Seriously people-- please take down your holiday decorations! Deflated Santas... sagging snowmen... plastic candy canes... and OH the lights! There's even a house in my neighborhood with a Halloween banner still up.

Don't put it up unless you plan on taking it down in a timely manner. Do you need my help? You might get it--want it or not. 4700 blocks of Berenice and Grace-- I'm especially talking about YOU!

  • My elderly aunt left her tree up year-round because she made the ornaments for it by hand and it made her happy. Now that she's gone, it's something that makes me chuckle in amusement when I think about her. It was her only eccentricity.

Unless there's an HOA rule that's being broken, I think you're probably stuck with seeing the Christmas decorations until next Christmas.

  • That's a cute story, Nick-G. I suppose we all have our eccentricities to a certain degree. I imagine I would leave my Halloween decorations up year-round inside my home if I thought I could get away with doing so.

Leaving decorations outside after a reasonable period is just being lazy.

Six Corners Sam, perhaps an anonymous letter or flier can be sent to the offending parties announcing the change of seasons and the end of certain holiday times.

New Restaurant at Six Corners

Went to this new restaurant at Six Corners (on Cicero south of Irving Park) this morning and the breakfast was delicious and prices very reasonable. They're open everyday, 7am-3pm.

Some of us had an impromptu lunch gathering there a few weeks ago. We all enjoyed our food and the great service by the owner and his son. Hope everyone gives it a try.

Got a Basement to rent?

Looking to rent a Basement or basement apartment that is absolutely clean and dry and ideally with high ceilings and that is absolutely private and secure. I am a realtor with a home staging business on the side, dedicated to helping my seller clients, and I need an affordable space to store my inventory ( some furniture and home accessories and artwork) I would ideally be able to hang artwork on walls. I'd be a great tenant.

  • Jen Baron JBaron

Aidan33- I am just looking for storage as my original post says, I have a home staging business and I need to store my staging inventory only. Ideal is a secure, private basement. $600 sounds reasonable, but I'm looking for something more affordable . Thanks for your post.

  • robin in WRP Tired, very tired

Adrian - would we able to bring in pallets?
