Voter Registration for the Feb 24th Election Ends Tuesday Jan 27

Voter registration for the February 24th Municipal Election will be closing on January 27th. If you will turn 18 before the February 24th election, moved from your previous address since the last election, or have not registered to vote, you must do so by January 27th in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election. For more information on how to register to vote, please click here:

You can also register online here:

  • An alderman calling himself an alderman????? THE NERVE!!!!!

  • Paula, Belmont Terrace 9-year resident

Minerva is completely obsessed with defaming Ald. Sposato before the election- you'll find many examples of this all over EB. She even hijacks threads, changing the topic so she can continue her vicious campaign against him. Pretty shameful in my book.

Jeff Berkowitz Interviews Alderman Sposato, 2014

Great information about the state of our local schools and our leadership telling us we cannot have an educational choice.

Great information about push for higher minimum wage, even though the demand and supply does not support it.

Great information about creating opposition for the sake of creating opposition.

Does this point of view match yours?

"HA, I AM A TROLL!!!!! LOL!!!"

You are sick for breaking into my computer just now, forcing my new tab to open with the above message on the address bar. Get a life!

  • Minerva From my kitchen table to yours.

Robin, I know you are enjoying this, so go ahead and have a laugh at my expense.

Obviously this was EB TROLL, trying to scare me off, as it was done before on NextDoor.com, just in a different way. The words were chosen well to make the link, don't you think?

Well, I don't like it, not even a bit!!!!!!! This has been an important computer for my family!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have caused me a headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, you have won this round!

Hera - I am not enjoying this at all! I am not a believer in schadenfreude. Your privacy has been violated. You should use the link I gave you and file a complaint with the FBI. You should find out why your firewall failed, and get it fixed. No one deserves to have her/his privacy violated.

Bulls/Sox Academy and Parks

It would be great to be able to evaluate our parks' programming much like we do it for restaurants and other service providers. This way we could have a better chance to weed out the bad and to bring in the great.

One of outstanding park programs found in the suburbs is the Bulls/Sox Academy. They offer fundamental camps, summer camps and more. The nearest location is in Park Ridge. Hopefully, we can manage to eventually bring the offering closer...

Neighborhood Infrastructure Menu Program

The following is my response to an e-mail request. I am reluctant to send an e-mail back, because my private info would be disclosed. Let me know if you need anything else.

The actual final expenditure detail by ward by year is located at:

The 2014 file is called 2014 Program, found close to the tab's bottom on the left side.

My past links referred to a pdf file instead of the Capital Improvement Program tab, which became obsolete with any subsequent same-year data update.

Once the chosen year file is open, hold CTL key as you press F key. Then enter Ward: 36 to get to the first line of the ward detail. You will find that all 2014 Ward 36 dollars were spent on infrastructure, mostly street resurfacing. No park district expenses.

To find Ward 36th's park spending, you have to go to 2013 and 2012 Menu Report. In 2013, both Shabonna and Hiawattha playlots got $310,277 in total. In 2012, Shabonna got $85,301. These park playlots got multiple sources of funding, grants and ward matching.

Thank you for posting this "Minerva". Copies of yearly menu expenditures are always available through the city or our office.

After last years severe winter the streets were in very bad shape so after speaking with members of the community we decided to use the bulk of the 2014 menu funds on street resurfacing. In 2012 and 2013 I allocated funds to improve our local parks. For Hiawatha Park we worked with the Chicago Park District and split the cost 50/50. For Shabbona Park we worked with St. Rep Arroyo and the Chicago Park District to split the cost 3 ways. These park improvements are not only great for the children to have new playgrounds but help improve the neighborhood as a whole which will help attract more families and businesses to the area.

Again "Minerva" thank you starting this conversation and your continued support!

Intro and Observations

I wanted to introduce myself to the community and share some observations with my fellow neighbors. I wanted to introduce myself to the community and share some observations with my fellow neighbors. I live by the Addison and Pulaski intersection (I believe that's Avondale/South Old Irving Park area), I live with my partner and his family. I had moved from Albany Park, where I was a witness to a shooting, and coincidentally I also witnessed the shooting by Addison and Pulaski last month (talk about wrong place at the wrong time).
Before I moved in with my partner he assured me that his neighborhood, or at least his block was safe. However, I'm starting to notice that, that might not be the case soon. For one I have noticed increased tagging on buildings on Pulaski, more specifically the old Frame building they are currently remodeling, the black door next to Windy Cindy Market, and many more.
More recently, this past Sunday (January 18), while driving back home we scared off two guys on our block. One ran off into the yard of a house and the other tried to casually walk away. When we drive back around they had already met up again and were walking south on Karlov by Eddy.
I have also seen an increase hit on my RSS feed for crimes in my area, around Belmont and Kedzie, and that is really starting to concern me.
I would love to get to know my neighbors a lot better and see if we can come up with a way to ensure our neighborhood doesn't get any worse. I am open to any idea; meeting up, flyers, whatever it takes.
Anyway, that is it for now, hope y'all have a great Friday.

Why Aren't Our Children the Central Point of Campaigns?

When most people decide to have children, they do it with the understanding that the children will become their focal point, and thus the family decisions and plans will be centered around benefiting the future generation. When most people decide to have children, they do it with the understanding that the children will become their focal point, and thus the family decisions and plans will be centered around benefiting the future generation. However, little local campaign coverage is being given to the topic of directly improving the educational outcomes for our children, who are expected to inherit a ton of debt.

With that said, I am calling on all parents, especially those frustrated with the lack of local, quality educational services to participate in these elections and to ask tough questions about all of our nearby schools, parks and libraries. Some questions could include:

How can we raise accountability in our schools, parks and libraries?
How can we share the best practices across all of our institutions?
How can we turn the schools, parks and libraries to be more welcoming and engaging?
How can we address the overcrowding in our schools?
How can we bring more hands-on work and in-depth education?
How can we bring more vocational programming?
How can we bring more culture and celebrate our ethnic diversity?
How can we bring multilingual storytime to our libraries?
How do we start a teen center?

Thriving families are thriving communities! Instead of building bars and dollar stores, let's build great family institutions. Everything else will likely fall into its rightful place.

Every spring, this woodcraft class focuses on making, from scratch, derby cars to take part in a memorable derby car race at Portage Park. This event is big and fun for the whole family! Both scouts and the woodcraft students participate in it. Our family was simply blown away by the last year experience! The organization, the presentation, the children's output and the family turn-out was more than pleasing. It was way beyond our expectations. Thanks Mr. Joe and thanks Chicago Park District!

Currently, to my surprise, there are still registration spots available for woodcraft with Mr. Joe at both parks. I would like to encourage our local youth and their families to join this affordable, local program, teaching the life skill of carpentry. Like us, once you try it, you will be hooked and that is my promise!

Woodcraft with Mr, Joe is our local gem. Let's build it up and protect it.

Love it! Colors red, black and silver depict energy, mystery and wisdom. The sleek, elongated shape with extra weight at the end means business, the seed. :)

I thought you were pulling my leg, but you are for real. Good for you! Keep your interest and fond memories alive.

I think you ought to come to the car derby at Portage Park, in mid-March, I think, with your treasure. I think Mr. Joe, kids and the community as a whole would be thrilled to hear your story.
