mail delivery at 10:30pm ... what?

sitting in the living room, heard someone on the front porch. poked my head out the front window to see 3 postmen (i guess) delivering mail to other houses down our block (kenneth & irving). my husband didn't believe me, but lo and behold...we had new mail in our box. what?

  • SPIRO 1983 sergeant 19

Charles is the best mailman I agree...he would always talk nfl and nba with us to..he used to go to bowser dog for lunch...

  • yeah our mail in OIP has been coming regularly between 8 and 9pm. We've definitely been skipped many days as well, usually Monday fairly consistently. I've seen it delivered across the street late morning/early afternoon so I was guessing we were the end of the route but sounds like this is more common than I thought!

Considering a move to Old Irving Park

Hello, I'm considering a move to the Old Irving Park area. Maybe Portage Park too depending on where I find a house. I'm wondering how diverse the area is, the commute downtown via train, etc. I've been in Ravenswood for over ten years and love the diversity (ethnic, mix of singles, families, straight and gay, etc.) and ease of commuting downtown (brown line or metra). I've driven around the area and visited some houses for sale but that does not give me the scoop on the neighborhood. I'm looking forward to feedback from people living in the area. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Catalytic Converters

This past Friday evening a friend of mine had her catalytic converter stolen. When she filed the report she was told hers was the 4th in a week. We are around the Irving & Kostner area.

If this ever happened to me, first I would contact the CPD, then all of the local TV news investigative reporters and the Attorney General's office. Seriously, how much time and money do people have to waste to replace their own stolen property before law enforcement will pay attention and work on the issue? Not enough police, not enough this/not enough that and too many excuses on the part of law enforcement. (And I'm not just referring to CPD, we've needed more police officers in the 17th District for years.)
Take a stand, don't accept the excuses and let the bad guys line their pockets with your hard earned dollars! I hope my post is inspirational to one or many of you to take action and fight for what you earned, what is rightfully yours. (Within the law of course.)

  • Careyann, why the Attorney General?! Reporting a catalytic converter stolen doesn't make the news, what YOU do about it does. You form a block club, you set up a community task force, you get proactive and you'll make it newsworthy. You'll also stop the thieves. It's not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Irving and Pulaski

In the past few weeks the intersection at Irving and Pulaski has gotten really backed up in the mornings - particularly Pulaski headed south. Maybe it's my imagination...wondering if anyone else has noticed or knows if they changed the timing on lights or anything else that may be impacting. It's crazy how one light can kill your commute!

I opened a 311 request and it was closed this evening with the following status:
Work Assigned to Traffic Signal Repairman
    Final Outcome:
    Service Retime Controller

Will be interesting to see if anything has changed when I'm driving through there tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath but if so, someone deserves a reward for record time customer service. :)

Ok local residents [who were never asked in the first place,] do you think Waveland is an unnecessary road that allows unwanted access to residential streets? Seems to me to be one of OUR main access points since all roads lead north from here!

"$1.2 million capital campaign to construct an Athletic Field / arena" - an ARENA, no less, with no resident input?

So let's get this straight: close a street, take down approx 10 trees, build a bus turn-around on a residential corner, extend the field into a soccer/football field with a baseball diamond at the other end, a sports "arena" with no parking, rent it out for nights and weekend with no toilet facilities, no bleachers or seating?

And the Champion Alderman Arena thought it best NOT to mention this to the residents?

  • Jill, you are violating Everyblock community guidelines. And those of human decency. On Election Day. Hopefully, EB will be pulling your posts that violate their guidelines.

  • "you sure are negative behind that alias!" - written so eloquently from someone posting behind an alias. My place of employment has little care for me posting constructive comments and opinions regarding the neighborhood/ward I reside in. Attack me all you want, you will not change my convictions or dedication to being part of the conversation. I thank my neighbors who welcome this discourse, even if we don't always agree :-)

1. Although we were told otherwise, and Alderman Arena insisted over and over that this meeting was planned all along to happen now, we still feel that the meeting happened now because of pressure of neighbors after finding out about these plans. There is still a strong distrust.
2. We were assured over and over that if we agreed to this proposal, the park district would run the new park according to neighbors's wishes, would NOT be rented out to adult leagues EVER, and would only rent out to youth leagues during times that the neighborhood agreed too.
3. It would be a park. I doubt that it would run according to neighbors's wishes. Do any parks run according to neighbors wishes?

I am pretty sure I saw a small coyote prancing up the sidewalk on the 4000 block of Kenneth. Has anyone else seen one around here? Obviously it is widely reported that they are everywhere now. I just had not seen one here yet. There certainly are plenty of rabbits for them!

Nicholas Sposato Endorsed by all of Chicago's Public Safety Unions for 38th Ward Alderman

Chicago--The FOP, the Firefighters Union, and the Police Sergeants' Association, the unions representing Chicago's Police Officers and Firefighters, have announced their endorsement of Nicholas Sposato for Alderman of the 38th Ward. Representatives of Chicago's public safety unions sighted Alderman Sposato's record as a Firefighter, Alderman, and a member of City Council's committee on Public Safety as their reason for endorsing Sposato.

"As Alderman I have made improving public safety one of my top priorities," said Alderman Nicholas Sposato. "We need to ensure that Chicago's Police and Fire Departments have the support and resources necessary to do their jobs and keep our communities safe."

As Alderman, Nicholas Sposato has continued his fight to hire more police officers to keep up with attrition and meet the growing public safety needs of Chicago. In 2013 he co-sponsored a budget amendment to reduce overtime costs and hire 500 new officers. In addition to working to increase police presence in our communities Alderman Sposato pushed to have Chicago's ambulance fleet upgraded to a full advance life support fleet in the most recent contract negotiations

"I have known and worked with Alderman Sposato for many years now, both as a Firefighter and as an Alderman and he has always made improving public safety his top priority," Chicago Firefighter Union, Local 2 President Tom Ryan said. "He is no longer serving alongside his fellow Firefighters on the street but we know we can count on him to have our backs and support us in City Hall."

"I am proud to announce today that the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police has chosen to endorse Alderman Nicholas Sposato for 38th Ward Alderman," said Dean Angelo FOP Lodge 7 President. "Nick's record of fighting to improve public safety is unquestionable. I look forward to continuing to work alongside him on public safety issues for many more years."

Any Ideas for the vacant new building on the SW corner of Cicero and Byron?

This is a 4500 sq. ft. building that has it's own parking space; What a waste that it is sitting empty for so many years! Does anyone have any ideas about what they would like to see there? I imagine the rent is pretty steep to match the new building and good size parking lot. I was thinking of a doggy day care, Senior center, or a Pizza place...not really sure what would work in the area. My plan is to finds out some good ideas, then contact businesses to see if they would be interested. Any thoughts?

38th Ward

Northwest Side

Ald. Nicholas Sposato, who moved over from the remapped 36th Ward, deserves to be returned to the City Council by voters in this ward, which runs through Dunning, O’Hare and Portage Park. Nonprofit executive Heather Sattler understands what the city needs to do to fix its pensions. But Sposato, a retired firefighter, has been a strong independent voice on the Council and a member of the Progressive Caucus, and his voice is needed on what too often is a rubber-stamp body. The other candidates in this ward, which has no incumbent, are forest preserve police sergeant Jerry Paszek, Water Department investigator Carmen Hernandez, Realtor Tom Caravette, Council legislative aide Belinda Cadiz and retired city worker Michael C. Duda.

  • Albert F. Opitz Getting ready to move to the 38th

I'm sorry, but Rahm needs opposition in the Council. If all we're going to elect is a rubber stamp, why not just put in a mail drop and we can save money on the aldermanic office!!

  • The city council needs independent thinkers who are neither a "yes" man to the mayor or a "yes" man to the special interests groups. Compromise and collaboration are key to successful leadership. Take a look at the donations received by the candidates in this race and it is clear that a vote for Sposato is a vote for someone aligned to special interests that will have him "rubber stamping" their agenda.
