Hope there not going to use the alley as a commercial entrance or allow cars through the alley preventing the Police, Fire Department and Ambulance from any life threatening situation or even prevent some other city services or the utility companies from passage through a grid lock neighborhood.

Let's call our Alderman Ariel Reboyras and complained, so please call him starting MONDAY at 773-794-3095 before the zoning change or he gets his license!!

shots heard at merrimac?

Around 8pm I was facing my N side window and heard shots in the direction of Merrimac Pk. Can anyone verify this? About 7 shots in no pattern but all lasted about 15 secs. First was loud then last ones were a little more distant but close. I am by Waveland and Naraganset. I didn't hear any sirens and it was not car backfire or fireworks. Thanks

Ald. Nicholas Sposato's Service Office From the 38th Ward to your kitchen table

What's wrong with the above account which commented twice today in a Portage Park thread. The above account was open in 2012 and up to May 2014 events held in Ald. Sposato's 36th Ward were occasionally posted. When did Ald Sposato take over the 38th Ward? Guess Sposato doesn't need to earn the support of the 38th Ward voters he just moves in. Hay Nick how bout showing 38th Ward voters and 38th Ald Cullerton a little respect?

Me, I moved from the 36th Ward to the 38th without leaving my house! I saw Nick beat the machine in the 36th, and I was proud of him. Plus he has the cajones to stand up to Rahm. So now I will support him. It's that simple.

And, regarding the flood posts above, I remember a well attended public meeting after the floods. Nick was there and some experts talked about the solutions.

I want to hear more about what people LIKE about the candidates they DO SUPPORT, not a lot of nonsense/negative stuff. People, if we keep it positive we make a better neighborhood. Thanks.

They have threatened me and my dog while walking where I even wet my pants. I have called the police and waited 4 hrs. on the nite of the incident of threat with no response. They want me to move since I am the first neighbor speaking out for the rest who are sooo tired of all their drama in sooo many years. The police know them very well since they have been there on many, many occasions but not with me. I heard that making a complaint with Arena won't get me anywhere from previous complaints people made on different incidents. Will going to the Caps meetings help me? I will not move since I love my apt. and the area and all the neighbors except for them. I will not bow down to them.

First of all, you do not have an alderman you did not elect you are still represented by the alderman you elected until May . Second , you unfortunately do not have a say in the redistricting of ward boundaries. It is done behind closed doors supposedly according to the census . Third, this was done almost immediately after the last aldermanic election so.....way to stay informed and in touch. And finally, Alonso is NOT Alderman Sposato's guy at all. For the record you can NOT go to any alderman office and ask any questions about elections or candidates or anything of that nature. It is illegal for them to answer. And it will do you no good to go to the 36th ward office as it stands now because (a. It will not be the office or the alderman when the new boundaries take effect and (b. That alderman represents another ward that you do not live in.

Commercial transportation for seniors who can't walk well

If you have senior who can't walk more than 25 feet with a walker, and can't use stairs anyone have first hand knowledge of a company that can come over scoop the senior up get them into their van transport to a local doctor's visit then bring them back after the appointment and deposit the senior back into their place at home? The senior isn't obese or crappping their pants, or have any medical devices connected to them. They just aren't as mobile as they once were, but do not use a wheelchair, yet.

  • You can also contact the Norwood Seniors Network 773-631-5673. They offer transportation services, as well as many other services for seniors in the community.

Hi there neighbors! We are looking to adopt a puppy next month and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion or past experiences to draw upon to help me decide where to adopt. Here are a few facts about us:

-We will only consider adopting. We do not believe in "designer" dogs.
-We have a large yard with 8' high fencing.
-We are adamant about getting a young puppy so that we can peacefully introduce it to our 2 cats and 4 chickens. The dog MUST get along with the other animals and be able to be in their presence unsupervised without threat.
-We are looking for a large breed with protective instincts.
-We are looking to spend no more than $300 for adoption fees.

If you've adopted, I'd love to hear what your experience was. Did you have a good experience? A negative experience? Why? Any HELPFUL comments are appreciated. All off topic comments will be ignored.

Thank you!

Stinky basement foul smell moving through house?

I noticed a smell in my basement a few weeks ago. I really just thought it was a dead mouse / rat since we have that issue going on. So I have been looking for a dead decaying rodent. No luck.

I read on here that the smell may be coming from the floor drain pipes? Can anyone give me more information. The smell is starting to reach the living room and kitchen in the past weeks. Thanks

  • p-trap is below the wash tub. It holds water in it so air doesn't flow from the drain pipes in the floor up into the basement. If the p-trap becomes empty in a week it's probably leaking at it's base. turn the water on in the sink for a minute. Put a bunch of toilet paper right under the p-trap. Come back the next day or two and see if the toilet paper is wet.

  • Mmm easy enough. Thanks!

Jefferson Park Transit Center To Get $25M Renovation

The $25 million renovation of the transit center at 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave. — which includes stops for nearly a dozen buses, the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line and Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line, is expected to include an improved bus turn-around, new canopies, lighting, escalators and stairs, officials said.

http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20150123/jefferson-park/jefferson-park-transit-center-renovation-get-5m-from-tif-districts

The Renovation will be funded in part by $5M from the Jefferson Park and Portage Park TIF Districts.

During the station renovation, a new crosswalk will be installed across Milwaukee Avenue, Brugh said. Plans for the crosswalk have been in the works since May 2013, when 45th Ward residents set aside $125,000 of Arena's discretionary budget for the project.

  • There have been more than a few times when I've seen a rat here and there crossing over the railroad tracks upstairs by Metra. The problem has not gone away. Can someone please take ownership and fix this problem please?

  • Whats wrong with rats on the railroad property? There's deer too.

I have seen only two threads asking for good quality meats and veggies. I see far more complaints about how much low quality food costs. Including one about finding cheaper meat compared to jewel. You get what you pay for. We get ours from the family farms that come to the farmers market. All of the meat is ethically raised and processed. The costs are only slightly higher. A pound of chicken runs $6-$7. The veggies are non-gmo and little or no pesticide.

Whole foods step 4 is also a good choice. However, even step one is far better quality compared to jewel. The up front cost to switch to non-gmo and organic food was costly. Now that it's done our food bills are very reasonable.
