Kouk's Closed?

My husband and I went there the other day, and it was closed. I peeked inside and the place looked cleaned out. There was no sign on the window with any explanation. My husband called the number to see if maybe there was an answering machine message with some sort of clarification, but the number was disconnected.

Does anyone know what happened??

  • They told me they are going to remodel.

  • EBKitty Stalking around EB

I read somewhere they were remodeling and maybe changing the business model all together but were non-committal about the topic. They had business so it seems incredible they would close. They had regulars. Don't know if they are on this board.

I live in Sauganash but teach at Grissom School (12810 S.Escanaba--in Chicago). We have classes with 41 students. All of the rooms are overcrowed there because the neighborhood is changing from older Caucasian couples to Hispanic families with children. If the parents of the students at your school attend the Board of Education meeting and complain, it will be noted. Teachers are allowed to refer and grieve classes that are overcrowded, but parents who state the problem at the Board meeting will be heard. The teacher's union (312-329-9100) can go to your school and get the facts of whether there are additional school rooms that can be set up to help relieve the overcrowded classes. Also parents can go to the LSC meetings at the school to complain. It is good that you want the best for your child and you should seek out other parents to form a class size committee. If you call the union and ask for Lois Jones (312-329-6245--- who is in charge of the classroom size in schools), you will get assistance in knowing what steps to take. We always say that parents need to advocate for their children. You can always email me for further info at pat353g@yahoo.com. Pat Gerard

Attempted in vain to initiate some sort of change while my sons attended but was told the test scores were high (for Chicago that is...not so much on a national comparison) so therefore class size has no impact. Teachers at the time seemed reluctant to make an issue of it. Little bit of peer pressure there, I think.

So flash forward to last month when yet another national study indicated that class size does indeed impact learning/success, particularly since STEM has been thrust into the spotlight.

Glad my sons are out of CPS...sorry they and many other students had to endure some negative behavior that went unnoticed and unreported because a teacher's eyes cannot be everywhere, especially when there are upwards of 35 bodies in motion.

  • Its NOT the class size that pupils get a better education. Its the teacher that makes the difference.....oh by the way...PARENTS TOO. I feel for the teachers who have unruly kids. Undiscipline kids too.. ...however...having gone to a Catholic school both grammar and high school...average class size were 45+...if thats the case we musta received the worst education and ended up stupid. Maybe CPS parents should start paying for their kids education. Maybe they'll get more involved with both their kids and their education.

Postal issues in Norwood park

Has anyone else been having problems with the Postal Service? Last week, I received no mail at all at my house. One day last week my neighbor received my mail and walked it over to my house, but what is the issue with the mail service? Our block is shoveled and my walkway and stairs are shoveled, so there is no reason for my house to be skipped...Any thoughts?

  • Edison Park CJM EP Neighbor

Report it to the U.S. Postal service at 1-800-275-8777 and get a official case number. Also encourage your neighbors to call in and file a complaint. I have found this places a lot of pressure on the local post office.

They're all related, Jefferson Park the same way. One day we get all junk mail, The next day we get a box full of first class, Go figure. And wish I got a dollar for every piece of mail delivered to my address that was marked for a different one.

What are the best online resources for finding a used car in Chicagoland?

Hi, everyone - My husband and I are in the market for a "new" used car. Besides autotrader and craigslist - what are the best online resources to seek out a used car? Thanks, everyone!

  • When you buy a used car, I recommend to ask seller to provide a carfax report which tells you the history of the car. This helps to know if it has been in an accident etc.

  • We've bought vehicles from eBay.com

Zumba & fitness classes

Five star fitness!

Fly Girl Dance, located on Northwest Hwy in Norwood Park, opened a few months ago. From my first visit I've been hooked. Kim, Mike and Shivani lead great energizing Zumba classes. I'd recommend them to anyone interested in aerobic dance! Check out the schedule on their website. Next Wednesday, there is a free class for Halloween (registration required). I think first timers might get a free pass too. Or contact me I have a couple to spare :)
