Numbers Matter

I am sending this email to thank you for believing in me and donating in the past. It is humbling to receive such a positive and understanding embrace from your own neighbors.

As you may know, prior to beginning my legal career, I was an Engineer. One of the most important things you’ll learn in this field is numbers matter. As we begin this new campaign, there are two numbers I want you to always think about.
100
In 2011 when I made my first run for Alderman, we commanded second place, and less than 100 votes separated us from a runoff. Yes, 100. That number is bittersweet because we were forced to end our campaign but it also showed us that there was a need for change and a hunger for qualified leadership.
18
The success of the 18th ward is important to me. This ward deserves to have experienced, knowledgeable and engaged leadership. One who will work to create jobs, fight crime and build a stronger community. I’m advocating for the promise of a ward that works, learns, and thrives together.
Now, do you see why numbers matter?
What we need is a new vision, and new direction, and a representative that can do more with less! With your help we can seat a new Alderman and make the 18th ward a greater ward.
We can do this!
I thank you for your support and look forward to the journey that lies ahead.
Sincerely,

Chuks Onyezia

  • I thought it was proven last time that you did not even live in the ward. Have you finally made the 18th ward your official and just on paper, residence ?

  • Casey welcome back! i love that you again take an interest in my 18th ward.

Casey welcome back! i love that you again take an interest in my 18th ward.
Have no idea what you talking about. For the record I do live in the 18th ward. this is true now, this was true when i ran 4 years ago, and this has been continuous. your comments on the qualifications of other alderman are well documented, along with your defense of the current incumbent. i just ask that you live in truth. the only thing "proven" is that you don't know me, my family, or my body of work.

instead of focusing on the fictional, lets focus on that i am an accomplished Attorney with over 10+ years of legal experience (since Alderman have legislative duties), hold a masters in Finance (since Alderman have fiscal duties), am a successful business owner, am an engineer (since critical thinking is involved), has secure thousands in grant money for my ward's public parks, am the founder and publisher of my community's only local newspaper, use my legal knowledge volunteering in felony expungment, just hosted a jobs forum that focused on CFD currently open application period, . . .

but i welcome you (and every one) to get to know me i will be at my campaign office Saturday at noon to sit and answer any of your true concerns, and hopefully you will leave knowing that i am extremely qualified and mean to build on my ward's greatness!

Camelot School moves to Emmanuel Baptist Church update.

Last night, the North Beverly Civic Assn hosted a community meeting with the leadership staff of this CPS Contract school at Greater Walter's Church. We heard the "dog and pony" show as well as rec'd beautiful literature on what this school intends to accomplish with "at risk" youths. Sounds wonderful, but we know that all roads to hell are paved with good intentions. I have never felt more proud and empowered to stand shoulder to shoulder with my community as we expressed our concerns and disapproval for the opening of this school. Most of our arguments against it were not based on emotion alone, but substantiated facts regarding our demographics that are not consistent with their mission. I hope they received our feedback in the spirit in which it was delivered. No one denied the need for such a program, we were in disagreement about where it should be.

They stated that they would not open in a community that was not welcoming for their students. We stood up to show our consensus that we would not be that welcoming community and are hoping that they decide to seek shelter elsewhere. The executive director ended the meeting with a commitment to share our concerns immediately with the Pastor of Emmanuel as the lease has not been signed. We are awaiting the results of their discussion.

Meanwhile, I noticed that signs have been put up on Damen restricting parking and white lines have been drawn in the street. It appears they are planning to create a crosswalk in the middle of the block for the students entry into the school. Deception all around. This is not the time to sit still neighbors, we have to move swiftly to impact change. It's not over yet, when money is involved we have to stand firm and demand this lease is not signed. Next stop protest the church and hold them accountable for creating this upset in our community.

I'm not going anywhere, are you?

  • Glad you had success with this issue. At some point this issue has to be addressed on the city and state level. While "Joey H" states that you must accommodate all children, the way CPS is going about it is all wrong. Dangling dollars in front of cash strapped churches is not the way to do this.

Now, you need to be on the lookout for homeless teen shelters because DCFS is dangling dollars as well.

  • Carol R A concerned Mom & citizen.

Absolutly! You are so right about that.
