I know this is a recurring theme here on EB, but come on folks. I've watched numerous kids and parents walking to/from school nearly get hit by people coasting through intersections by Bell. It's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Do you know the proper way to throw out a real Christmas tree? Can it be put in an alley next to the garbage/recycling cans?
My neighbor asked me this question and I'm curious what the answer is.

Darnit. I noticed the restaurant closed. I'm a bit surprised as it was always pretty busy. Anyone know if something new is going in? I hope so. I don't like the empty spaces on Diversey right now.

Would anyone have or know of a monthly parking space for under $140 per month between Grace(3800N)-Montrose(4400N) and the Lake to Graceland Cemetery? My nephew is starting his lease in the 800 block of Cuyler next week. Posting here because I can't seem to get the Buena Park neighborhood to come up for posting. Thanks so much.

I just walked by the Town Hall apartments on Halsted and Addison and noticed what appears to be a new restaurant getting ready to open up in one of the retail spots for that building. Does anyone know if this is actually a new restaurant and if so what the scoop on it is, or is it perhaps some facility that is there for the tenants of the building? It seems to look like to me it may be a restaurant because it also has bar seating and the decor of the place as well.

I watched a flat bed truck race up my alley (3900 block between Hoyne and Hamilton) with a black Jeep looking vehicle hanging off the back at 3:20 am,Monday Jan 23, 2012. When I ran to the alley and put a bright flashlight on the truck, the driver made a very wide turn westbound onto Hamilton knocking over several dumpsters in the process.
I called 911 and gave a description of what I saw, when I turned the scanner on, I heard the call go out across the 19th district, but didn't hear another thing about it.
If this was you vehicle stolen, contact me via EB and I will get back to you.

...maybe, maybe not, it will be for the voters to decide. But for the first time in several election cycles there are challengers to the incumbent in next month's election for 44th Ward Alderman. Come learn about the candidates and ask questions next week:
1. Monday, January 19 at 7pm at the next Southport Neighbors Association meeting. It will be at the Mercury Theater.
2. Wednesday, January 21 at 6pm at the Hawthorne Neighbors Meeting. It will be at the Annoyance Theater
Here's a chance to find out where the candidates stand on issues important to the community and ask questions.

Anyone know what's going on or happened on Irving by Paul Revere Park? Streets totally blocked and many emergency vehicles.

Seems like every other new restaurant in North Center/Lincoln Square gets covered by DNA Info or Chicago Reader or Chicago Mag, but there's silence on this one.

Just out of pure curiosity, does anyone know if a business is going in the former space across Lincoln from the CVS? I work in the area and somebody was asking me about it...

Moving to Lincoln Square/north center area Feb 1 and we have about 1,500 sq ft of hardwood floors that need to be refinished and stained.
Can anyone recommend someone to do this work?

I couldn't find the inquiry from about two weeks ago, but someone asked about a trusted cleaning person and I'd like to recommend mine-who has been with us for 7 years. If you comment to this post I will pass you her information. (I ran it by her today). Thanks.

In the past few weeks I have noticed a number of trees removed in North Center. Does anyone know if the removals are related to the emerald ash borer? Are more trees in NC scheduled for removal? Thanks
Below is a link to an interview Amy Crawford just did with Avy Meyer's of the Northtown News Network.
The video is about 7 minutes long and worth watching if you are a 46th ward voter, or even if you have a friend that votes in the 46th let them know. Amy is better for our community.

A neighborly reminder to please STOP at stop signs, especially ones on Elementary school corners. A driver blew through a stop sign this morning at 7:55 in front of Audubon School at Cornelia and Hoyne. Between 7:50-8:05 that intersection in particular is packed with children walking to school!!
Please, please, please don't race through them- or fail to stop completely. Getting where you need to go on time should never trump a child's well being.

Demolition has started on the 2800 block of N. Lincoln Ave. Does anyone know what's going on with this block? Powells bookstore, dry cleaners, and muskies are all available for new business/construction. This could be a great opportunity to add to the new businesses that have popped up in the last year on this block, Beermiscuous, Popcorn Asylum, Gyros on the Spit....

Lately, I dread each snowfall because I know it means the return of the snowblowing fools in the 2800 block of N. Orchard. Lately, I dread each snowfall because I know it means the return of the snowblowing fools in the 2800 block of N. Orchard. To give some background, snowblowing in this block typically occurs between the hours of 12am and 4am, so no, not even remotely a "normal" time to use a very loud machine. My guess is that it's a service used and they come at whatever time they feel like, then plow the entire dang block at these odd hours. It's not even the sidewalk, it's the garage areas behind the houses, so it usually takes a while. I'm a heavy sleeper, and it continually wakes me up and keeps me up because it goes on for an hour or more. Last night at 4:15am, I finally had it and called 311 and was transferred to 911. They sent a car out. I feel bad "wasting" our 19th district resources for something so trivial, but this is ridiculous! I'd like to believe that no normal person says "yes, 3am is an awesome time fire this puppy up to clean an inch of snow that my car is going to drive over!" Has anyone had similar experiences? Aside from wearing earplugs and filing noise complaints, any suggestions on how to handle?

Does anyone know whats going on at 4020 N. Lincoln? It's the storefront across from Starbucks that has had signage in the windows for years saying "Expressions, coming soon". I heard from the owner of Coles Appliances next door that it is being built out as a Peruvian restaurant. Does anyone have the scoop?
Besides 311 I don't know what to do to help this poor fellow. It unnerves me to see a busted out window of this car parked on Cornelia & Hoyne. This is the 2nd instance that this vehicle has been broken into with glass shattered all across the street. Either the owner has very bad luck or someone has some vendetta.

My wife and I just purchased a brick two-flat which we will de-convert into a single family home with an addition. We have worked through the bid drawing process with an architect and will now invite contractor bids. Our goal is to submit for a permit asap and begin construction when weather will permit.
We are looking for references for proven and hungry contractors who have done similar work and have achieved excellent results. Do you have any to share? Many thanks in advance.

We had a man and woman buzzing every door in our building Monday night in East Lake View, Belmont Harbor area. Luckily no one was dumb enough to buzz them in. Anyone else run into them? Awfully cold night for soliciting after dark by any of the regulars, like cable, cell and satellite promoters.

Anyone notice increased helicopter traffic over the past couple of months, especially on the weekends? I am used to the normal activity (police, news, Obama visits) but this is super frequent and is flying pretty low to and from downtown. I did a quick Google search and I think it's a red helicopter operated by a tour company that includes Wrigley but not sure which specific company. If anyone knows which one it is, let me know and I will contact them and the Alderman's office.

Does anyone know what is going on with the southeast corner of this intersection? A few lots farther south on Lincoln I see they are building something though... anyone have insight or knowledge...
