Kittens available for adoption

Hi everyone, I have 4 kittens available for adoption approximately 14 weeks old. They are all vaccinated, spayed/neutered and FEL/FIV negative. These kittens were part of a Trap Neuter Adopt program and completely socialized, friendly and sweet. Four kittens total. 3 Males and 1 Female. 1 Male is a beautiful silver tabby with leopard spots, 1 Male is destined to be a huge orange kitty with green eyes, 1 Male is a orange and white long hair, 1 female Tortie.

Tree House Bucktown is handling their adoption paperwork. Contact me for more information.

You can see more pictures and video here https://www.facebook.com/rhonefosters

  • I would love to take one but will be moving in the next couple of weeks. Still haven't found anywhere but maybe when I do find somewhere and get settled in I will see what you have for adoption. All beauties! Thank you!

The Best I've Found So Far: New vs. Old Chicago Ward Maps

The Chicago Tribune has a great link for those of us what are still wondering what the redrawn Chicago Aldermanic Wards mean to our neighborhoods.

http://tinyurl.com/NewChicagoWards

p.s., Dear Everyblock Moderators, please update the boundaries for the 11th Ward

  • Oops, I apologize for calling out the moderators. The new Ward boundaries do not go it to effect until January 1, 2015.

  • On January 1 our Ward will look like the strange silhouette of a Nightmare Before Christmas character. Who draws these things?

UPS Store to open

Saw that the apartment building with the 2 storefronts that has taken forever to get going between 33rd Halsted and 32nd will be hosting a UPS store. I don't know about everyone else but I'm happy with this. Not having a car this will be an easy drop off for me. This is an example of what we need in our neighborhood. Hope it pans out!

  • Erik H Loyola & UofC alumnus, Chicago Loot Drop charity

Anyone know if this is intended to be a permanent store, versus just a temporary store for the holidays?

  • Kevin S. #Bridgeport #Southside #Chicago

Erik, I would think if it was a temporary store it would have been open since around/b4 Thanksgiving. Both Fed Ex & UPS have been crazy time busy since then. I deal with both companies every day.

Please Help

I need to find an apartment by around December 15. I need something either month to month or a three or possibly 6 month lease. Two bedrooms would be great, but if not, will make it work. Also, can't spend a lot of $. Have lived in Bridgeport for about 15 years. Just need somewhere to relax, catch my breath and let winter pass. In my mid to late 50's and have a 30 something son with me. Also, need something with no stairs or can handle just a few. Thank you.

I think there is one on S. Lituanica around 32nd Place - might be first floor and says $800.

I watched the video. Now I need to ask a few questions, what block did he grow up on? Did he ever once go to a caps meeting? When did he ever pitch in and get dirty for clean and green? I grew up here 55 yrs and never recall him up until a few years ago and when I noticed him my first thought was ok he's gonna run for something, Next the video says he's gonna stop crime, I've been at every caps meeting and never once seen him! Sorry my vote will be elsewhere for this election along with the other 90% of this ward! It's defiantly time for change!

I had enough of the Daley Thompson and Maureen Sullivan bickering

I went to John Kozlar's fundraiser last night and it was about time we have someone running who is POSITIVE. His speech was beautiful and showed his true care for our ward. I could not believe the amount of people that were there and showing their support for him. I am behind Kozlar 100%. Give him a look, real neighborhood guy from our very own community. Comes from a great family that I met last night too. I'm speechless at the energy that I seen last night and am fired up to help! Here's more information on his campaign www.johnkozlar.com

Free Cat Spay Neuter at PAWS Lurie through December

Through December for any Chicago residents cat!
by appointment: 773 521-7729

http://www.pawschicago.org/spay-neuter-clinic/gusmobile/

  • doesn't Paws at Luri neuter all FERAL Cats for free anymore? I know the used to 5 years ago and anyone who was on Welfare could get their animals neutered there for free then also. I know because I had an abandoned female kitten neutered there for free. I still have her . She is 5 now.

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

PAWS changes their prices often, as well as the areas which get discounted prices. Currently the package for feral cat fixing is $20, which includes the sterilization, ear cleaning, wound cleaning, antibiotics, etc.

I've known people who could not afford even that, and then they had a 'Volunteer for a Voucher' program wherein the individuals did volunteer work for PAWS and then got a voucher for the needed service. I don't know to what extent that is still available.

It looks like traffic going South between 35th Street and 31st Street is going thru in the mornings. The problem is the 8 Halsted Bus going South still makes the turn at 35th and Halsted reroute to Wallace then to 31st. Then there's the one bus that does go the regular route. I get the bus at 33rd and Halsted. I either have to leave early wait for the bus going North, pay another fare and either catch the 8 Bus going South or take the 35th to the Green or Red Line. And if I'm lucky catch that one bus that still goes the regular route. I'd rather walk to 35th and get a seat than go to 31st and wait with about 20 other people that are waiting there.
When the bus is on the regular route in the mornings there is not enough room for people. Last year we were able to get the articulated busses and that worked for everyone. I could barely get a seat at 33rd. After we pick up abut 10 people on 32nd and another 15 or so at 31st there is no room to even stand. Another thing is that a lot of times I look at the phone for a schedule one bus will leave at 7 the next is 20 minutes after that. I've tried calling asking for the longer articulated bus. I keep telling them more people have moved to the area are using the bus to get to and fro. It's getting to be almost crowded on the weekends now. It's not like it was 10 years ago or more when every kid left for the north side and hardly anyone waited at the stop. Can everyone please join me in calling the CTA at 1-888-968-7282 and asking for the articulated bus and more stops. And also as long as the other traffic is going thru ask them to go the normal route. Maybe if more people call we can get some decent service once and for all.

Glad I'm not trekking up to Loyola anymore, then, Salty.

What is going on at the S. W. corner of 35th and Racine?

I know the lot is on the list of properties owned by the City, but I'm unsure what's going on there. There are a bunch of trailers--some with what look like animals from an old carousel on top of them. Anyone know if the City has plans for this lot and, if so, what they are? Just curious.

"Did you see all the amazing public art, streetscaping, business development and infrastructure modernization projects in Bridgeport this year, which put us miles down the road to end blight? To the tune of $11.5M? Yeah, neither did I." - Grace M.

Folks, I really hope to see you Thursday night.
My wife Lynn and I are working w/ friends to bring the TIF Illuminator Project to Bridgeport. Regardless of political leanings, Chicagoans needs to know this information.

My friends and family are incensed by the deplorable conditions of Halsted and the lack of local leadership/accountability. By my count there are 120+ vacant, dilapidated or empty commercial plots along Halsted, between 49th & University Village. Our TIF Districts, including the one along Halsted, drained $11.5 million from us in 2013. That’s money intended to stamp out encroaching urban blight. Have you seen $11.5 million in local development? Neither have I. Those millions were only the take for 2013. Some local TIFs began in 1996 and wont expire until 2020.

More worrisome is a sneaky, trick called “PORTING.” Porting allows our $11.5 Million to flow straight downtown to fund the poorly planned DePaul Entertainment District, w/o local input and only a hand-shake between Mayor & Alderman ...a VERY real possibility. Early projections of costs for the District were $1.1 Billion. However, the SunTimes reports skyrocketing cost and Emanuel scrambling for money.

Now that you’re angry let me suggest the start of a solution.
- become educated on the TIF process
-demand the support of full transparency in the TIF process as a basic requirement of ALL elected official.

The first step of educating ourselves is what Thursday night is all about.

To be respectful of everyone’s weekday evenings the presentation starts at 7pm sharp and is only one hour in length.

  • UPDATE: last night Tom Tresser let us know that adjusting for the newly drawn 11th Ward boundaries the Mayor & Alderman's TIF Districts siphoned $16 MILLION out of our neighborhood in 2013. Of that $16 MILLION, $4.5 Million simply disappeared into random city accounts and will never to be seen again. What could you have done with $4.5 Million to help rebuild the neighborhood?

  • - All that was required to make this $4.5 Million disappear was a simple hand-shake agreement between Alderman James Balcer & Mayor Ramn Emanuel. Where did our money go Jim Balcer? Local school budgets were cut, the police need patrol officers, the library is open reduced hours, our streets are...

Local school budgets were cut, the police need patrol officers, the library is open reduced hours, our streets are in disrepair, NOTHING has been done about the ruined viaducts between Bridgeport and Armour Square and again into Chinatown. What about the incredible blight along Halsted? This has happened on your watch Alderman Balcer. This is a permanent stain on your leadership.

Indoor running track in Bridgeport?

Hi Bridgeport. I am wondering if there is some sort of free or reduced price indoor running track in the neighborhood. I am looking to get some exercise but don't like running outside in the cold or paying for a gym membership.

  • I know a guy who knows a guy whose gotta key to one of dem warehouses offa Iron. You can run around dere for da right price.

  • Chicago park district has treadmills. 3-6-12 month memberships are all VERY affordable.

  • Wow, thank you. That's a very good idea.
