Bed Store on 35th Going Going Gone

I see the bed store which has been there for yours has moved from the corner of 35th and Halsted right under Bridgeport's own version of the NY Tines Square sign. It is all cleared out so it does not look like its being remodeled or anything. Can we even hope for something decent to open up? By the way for New Years we should let the ball drop from this location lol

Hi, I am a former teacher with 10 years of classroom experience in K-4th grade. I left teaching to have my baby girl, now 3.5-years-old. After she turned 1, I started working as a nanny, first for a family with 3 children (2.5 months, 4 years, & 5.5 years), then for a family with 2 children (2.5 months and 2.5 years). I am currently looking for a new opportunity because the family I was with moved out of state. Ideally, I am looking to provide care for 1-2 children in my own home (in Canaryville, near 47th/Halsted) along with my own daughter. However, I am open to other options. I would love to discuss with you what your needs are and how I might meet them. I am able to provide a complete resume with references and I can be reached by call/text at 312-437-0606 or by email at nadiaes@yahoo.com.

Cool Site Showing Voter Turnout

I realize a lot goes into a decision to vote for one candidate or another. I realize a lot goes into a decision to vote for one candidate or another. As many of you know, I have been very active trying to get elected officials to address health and safety concerns in Chicago viaducts (www.chicagoviaduct.com or twitter @chicagoviaduct.com). I can't help but think of all the railroads and viaducts in some areas where there was dismal support for Rahm Emanuel during this recent election. Englewood is one area lacking support. It's a strong African American community and is the same area where Demario Bailey, 15 years old, was killed (@64th and State) over his winter coat while on the way to a basketball game. Let's get better lighting, improve roads conditions inside, increase patrols, make reporting viaduct concerns more efficient, hold railroads and city services accountable, and clean things up. Better yet, please read the comments left by citizens all over Chicago. We have been at this for 6 months now. Take back our viaducts, take back Chicago!! Please share our petition at www.chicagoviaduct.com for #health and #safety!! Thanks.

Looks Like A Runoff!

With 36 of 38 precincts counted, it looks probable that there will be a runoff between Daley and Kozlar -- presuming there isn't any last-minute hanky-panky. Maureen Sullivan's supporters are going to be a big key. Enormous dollars and efforts are going to be expended by the machine, but an alliance between Kozlar and Sullivan supporters would be formidable. No matter what happens, Kozlar, Sullivan, and the voters in the 11th Ward have taken a major step forward in restoring democracy there. Congratulations!

  • JP in Bridgeport lifetime bridgeport resident

I totally agree with Michellle's statement that if Kozlar wants Maureen voters votes then give her a position in helping our community and let's work together so we can all win.

  • Rebecca Mantz Friendly neighbor

Kozlar is from Bridgeport right? I agree though, he is genuine and passionate. We need someone like him who will listen to us as community members.

I agree with this statement. Found it on another page about the election for Alderman.

All you Daley Thompson people keep talking about age and inexperience. What about my nephew who joined the Marines at age 18 right of high school? It's ok for him to defend your freedom but it's not ok for someone who's 26 to run for Alderman? You people are a bunch of hypocrites. I'm voting for John Kozlar!

Hi Everyone! I'm Pam from Gold Coast! I know I'm posting a little out of my neighborhood but I just wanted to say thanks and recommend my Dog Sitter who's local to your area and who's taken such wonderful care of my beloved Golden Retriever Max for almost 2 years now since my back surgery left me unable to care for him. Max is 16 years old and I know he wouldn't be around today if it wasn't for Kevin's compassion and care. Max could not get up on his own until Kevin took him in after my back surgery and helped strengthened his legs so he could get up and walk on his own again. My back condition keeps me from having Max back home at my condo but I assure you, he loves his new home and all his new friends! I visit him every week and couldn't say more about Kevin and how passionate, loving and accommodating he is to all off his clients. With that said I will leave you with a photo of Max and his best buddy Ragazzo! If you would like more info contact me or contact Kevin at Dogouton35th@gmail.com

  • Keep cool baybee. You have to realize your post is just vague enough to read like spam. It also looks fishy when this is your first post. I'm glad it isn't spam. I'm even happier your dogs receive excellent care. Kevin sounds great, and good for you for taking such good care of your doggies.

Daley Thompson has said he was against the heliport, but I just found out he is getting money from the owner's family of the heliport to fund his alderman campaign! Removal of turn lanes

Have there been discussions / postings about the removal of turn lanes at 31st & Halsted and 35th & Morgan? Following the latest repairs / road work at these intersections, turn lanes were removed - the lane to turn westbound onto 35th St. from northbound Morgan St. and the lane to turn westbound onto 31st St. from northbound Halsted St. Removal of these turn lanes has a significant impact on traffic since these are both busy intersections in the neighborhood. Also, they didn't remove the eastbound turn lanes from the southbound direction of Morgan and Halsted, so it makes even less sense to have removed the westbound turn lanes.

  • Erik H Loyola & UofC alumnus, Chicago Loot Drop charity

Shoot, at this point I'd settle for just an explanation of why they need the right lane blocked off on 31st still.

  • MLP19 Keeping an eye out

I realize now that they are still doing an extensive amount of work at 31st & Halsted, but I'm still curious to see whether that turn lane will reappear when the work is finally completed.

  • Erik H Loyola & UofC alumnus, Chicago Loot Drop charity

Yeah,I guess every time I think they've finished working on a given part of that area, it's blocked off again a week later.

But Maureen Sullivan said in clear, plain English that she supports Bob Fioretti for Mayor. That he's got the best record for working families.

This ward and this city absolutely cannot afford four more years of Rahm Emanuel and pay-to-play politics.

In fact, this ward cannot afford any politician at all. What it badly needs instead is a representative. Someone who speaks plainly, has no conflicts of interest, and whose platform has not changed to match the opposition since the start of this race in August.

The ONLY candidate in this race who can say that is Maureen Sullivan.

When our elected leaders have gigantic conflicts of interest, and when we accept weasel-worded answers, we give away our representation under the law.

That representation is precious, and we should protect it! Never give in to pay-to-play!

Because it means they get paid -- and we get played.

If I remember correctly he was prosecuted and, even with some of the best attorneys in Chicago and by all accounts proof that his NPO fed and helped thousands, he just narrowly avoided jail time by agreeing to repay a very large sum of money.

Chicago Forward: Paid Political Canvassing

I just got off the phone w/ a telemarketer canvassing for Patrick D. Thompson. He was polite enough but his script was a little light on facts. I guess that is to be expected of paid canvassing. They generally don't live in the area. Is anyone else getting these calls?

  • But we are allowed to vote. It really wouldn't be a disaster if there were some brawling at city hall. The longer Rahm stays the longer Rahm will stay. How can he be popular? Chicago is just convenient for him.

  • You're comparing a PAC that has $150k according to their last quarterly (CTU), to one that has $1.9M (Chicago Forward). CTU cannot pay canvassers but they do have teacher fighting to prevent their jobs from being annihilated by this administration. Chicago Forward paid people to collect signatures for Rahm and now they're paying people to hustle votes for Rahm and his cronies and rubber stamps

The 11th Ward hasn't changed too much, but look at how the wards were manipulated not for the benefit of the residents, but for the benefit of the incumbents. They drew those maps with the middle finger pointed at the citizens, and I will use the same finger to vote against those who created it.

  • Erik, I disagree that we are a democratic republic. Our Republic is a country of laws and the people retain the power. We elect our representatives, but we the people retain the power to remove them from office should we find they are not performing as we desire. However I have to sadly admit, we are becoming more of an oligarchy as power is being concentrated amongst a few of our richest, both Democrats and Republicans.

  • John Bull Who is John Galt?

What other outcome should we expect in a ward/city/state/country ruled by the arbitrary whims of the majority?

We are considering electing an Alderman to vote on legislation on our behalf. Candidate Patrick Daley Thompson today admitted in the newspaper that if a bad deal for the people comes up in the City Council, and that bad deal is attached to the names of any one of his huge family, he WILL NOT VOTE AGAINST IT, AND WILL INSTEAD LOOK THE OTHER WAY BY NOT VOTING AT ALL.

This is 100% wrong for us! Bad deals come along all the time and we NEED votes AGAINST them. That is exactly how the parking meter deal passed: not enough Aldermen voted against it.

Remember this: when elected, Maureen Sullivan will ALWAYS vote against bad deals for the people of the 11th Ward. ALWAYS. There are NO Sullivans, NO cousins, NO uncles working pay-to-play politics in Illinois, Cook County or Chicago. ZERO.

Which means Maureen Sullivan can and will represent you 100% of the time. Not her family: you.

  • Aldermen are banned from owning companies that do business with the city because it is a conflict of interest and there is a high likelihood for abuse. So how is it not a conflict of interest that Daley-Thompson's law firm acts as counsel for the MWRD? I'm genuinely curious to hear an answer from a Daley-Thompson supporter. What am I missing?

  • Statesman 1st Line of Defense

By those same standards, There were some calls for transparency made of Ms. Sullivan's non-profit organizations on one of the Facebook pages. As an undecided voter, I would like to see her answer them. I'm not a Daley fan, but I'm looking at my options as are many of my fellow Bridgeport neighbors.

In the meantime, we sent out assessment forms to our volunteers to get a better idea of specific viaduct needs (structure, lights, and sanitation concerns) Best, Michelle

What happened to the Bridgeport Vet?

I have been calling the bridgeport vet (Wayne, now that he is alone since Larry passed away) for over a week and there is a message that says the clinic is temporarily closed. Does anyone know why? And also does anyone know if Wayne is going to open again soon? I haven't been there in awhile since my dog and then one of my cats passed on. So I am out of the loop
