OP area crime

Appears to be an up tick in area crime above and beyond the typical garage break in or minor property damage.
We need to be on the watch and report suspicious activity not only to police, but also this site so everyone can be informed as to what to watch for and what areas are having occurrences. Warmer weather is here, so street activity will be on the rise.
Comments and additional info on EB posted crimes is also helpful, being that info posted by EB is vague.

  • @OParker - I have no faith in our police department.

  • Apparently there needs to be a murder before they care about someone trying to break into your house. The guy could have come in and killed your sister and nobody cares about that?! Ridiculous.

Low flying jets

A ridiculously loud jet flew just flew over my house today at 2:15 pm. I'm right off the Norwood Circle which isn't the usual path for planes. It was probably flying too low based on how much my windows shook. Did my part by reporting it online at http://www.flychicago.com/OHare/EN/AboutUs/NoiseManagement/NoiseComplaints/Pages/Noise-Complaints.aspx.

Overreacting?

I live on the 5600 block of oketo and the other night about 11:30 pm we heard knocking on our basement window followed by our doorbell ringing. When we asked who it was, a girl said it was a friend and that her name was Samantha. She wouldn't say who she was looking for and when we told her we don't know anyone by that name she finally left. The next night on the news we saw a report of home burglaries that happened this way off of the 290 highway in Elmhurst.

Agreed. Even if the person looks harmless, you don't know who she really is, or whom she may be with. Call 911 always, and let the authorities figure it out.

  • No question. I would call 911. And do not be so distracted that you do not pay attention to the other doors or possible places of entry.

shop and save on devon

Does anyone know when the new shop and save will be opening? It's said coming soon for months.

Never heard of Ada's, sounds like a good addition to the neighborhood. Are they going into the empty store on NWHY across from the Chase Bank?

Never heard of Ada's, sounds like a good addition to the neighborhood. Are they going into the empty store on NWHY across from the Chase Bank?

As for the Shop and Save, I wouldn't be too critical, if we were all experts in opening stores we'd be in that business right? I'm sure it isn't easy and there's always problems setting up a new business. I haven't heard any verified complaints. No one is obligated to shop there if they don't feel comfortable dealing with them.

I'm looking forward to the opening, whenever it happens. I've been to another one of their stores and really liked it. The prices were pretty good.

Shopped at their store when I lived in Lakeview and it was nice. It will be a great addition to the neighborhood. As for the length of time to open, you can blame the old Dominics for not shutting off the water when they left and having the pipes burst over the wonderful winter we had last year. Dominics never did do anything right.

Fox Sighting

Saw a red fox yesterday around 5:40PM on the side of the Kennedy, before the Bryn Mawr exit, in the grassy area. It was preying on a small rodent that looked like a rabbit. I've heard of coyote sightings but never a fox. Has anyone else spotted a fox before? If so, should it be reported to animal control?

  • I saw the same fox on the north side of the Kennedy yesterday a little after 5:00 P.M., meandering westward on the grass next to the highway. Right out in the open, very pretty, but now I am worried about my cat which is an indoor/outdoor cat!!

  • There has been a red fox in the neighborhood for years. Not sure if it's the same one, but I have seen one wandering around in the morning while the kids are heading to school. I've also seen a coyote. It's probably a good idea to keep an eye on your pets.
