Banfield Noooo!

For the love if God! Sitting in Banfield waiting room for over hour and when they get me in the room their gonna shame me into bankruptcy. Please someone give me a vet in logan area that is good and reasonable please

  • Ramona Z. homeowner in Logan Square

Animal Ark is good, Logan Square animal hospital not so good, I have had more than one bad experience there and they have bad reviews on the web. I would say they are ok for shots and other minor things but don't go there if it's serious or if the dog needs surgery. Animal Ark is about the same in price as others in the area but cheaper than chain vet clinics.

  • Jen

I also find village west vet to be reasonably priced.

Code 0964100G Violation

Just got a ticket in violation of code 0964100G STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC SIGNAL which, after further research, is for parking too close to a stop sign. Just got a ticket in violation of code 0964100G STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC SIGNAL which, after further research, is for parking too close to a stop sign. Apparently the code states you have to be 30 FEET from a stop sign or traffic signal, however, I can't actually find the code. I plan on attempting to contest it. This just seems like some BS way of creating revenue, especially when there are no signs posted or markings on the curb and there are and have been several cars parked just as close to the stop sign or in the same exact spot for years, and I've never seen a car ticketed ONCE. I'm mad. Anyone have any suggestions for anything I can do to be productive? Otherwise, I will just stew in my anger and out $60. This was at the stop sign at Spaulding and Schubert, near the blue line.

  • Ramona Z. homeowner in Logan Square

The rule can be found in the Rules Of The Road. Everyone licensed in Illinois should have read it so I'm guessing protesting the ticket won't work. Everyone that parks within 30 feet of a stop sign can be ticketed so basically if you don't get a ticket, consider yourself lucky.

  • East side of the street, north of the alley, but south of the stop sign? if that's where you were parked, I've seen ticketed cars there often. that's not a legal parking space.

Motorcycle/Scooter parking downtown

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with parking a motorcycle or scooter downtown? I was planning to approach a couple of the garages around my office, or ask building management about the loading dock area. If anyone has any experience I would love to know.

  • Brian F Long time resident of chicago

Bikes don't need a permit. Find a permit street and just park.

  • I'd be very weary about your bike getting stolen if you're street parking it anywhere in this city.

Construction "site" at 3060 W Armitage Ave

I live in the building there and the dump and mess that has been left from construction for the bank on the other corner of the street is insane. Anyone on here work for the city? I am positive they do not have permits and have no right to be using the extra land as a place to store their junk. I'm tired of the noise and tired of looking at it! Something has got to be done. That, on top of the graffiti all over the place, is driving me nuts!

  • Any word? Construction still happening. S#it pit is still there. Now our building shakes, it looks like they are going to build something next to us now. Oh joy, more noise.

  • PR

They had a permit last year to build a building identical to yours on that site. I assume that's what they are starting. Lets hope it doesn't drag on for two years like the construction at the other end of the block.

Does anyone here want to see our Alderman put up signs on existing poles that say "Respect Our Community, Do Not Litter" ? I saw these signs in Andersonville when I lived there and I believe they actually helped. Right now, I'm not sure the folks here are aware of the benefits of not dropping their trash on the street or in front of their houses.

Also, the Chase grammar school should start a no litter campaign in their early grades. It just takes a guest speaker to come out for 40 minutes once a year. That's how I learned not to litter back in the 70's. Since then, the awareness seems to have dropped off.

I'd love to here if anyone has discussed or thought about solving the litter problem in this area.

  • As an parent of a student at Chase school. I can say that they have a great anti litter program. There are several garbage cans outside the main entrance and surrounding the school that are emptied on a daily basis. The students are reminded not to litter on a daily basis and they have a clean up days.

Actually, legislating is supposed to be their primary function. That is the design of our city government, strong City Council- weak mayor. But for over half a century we've endured the problems that come with a mayor running amok thanks to the practice of having aldermen/women act as middlemen for city services.

This is what bogs them down and why big ticket issues like the parking meter privatization, TIF, pension contributions, etc do not get the attention they deserve. Those debacles are why the City is broke, and can't afford to provide basic services to the level we'd all like, such as providing more trash cans and pickup. It is not the alderman's job to provide trash cans just because someone requests them, if so we'd have trash cans on every corner and be paying out the nose to have them serviced.

All that said, that is a big intersection and seems like a candidate for trash cans. I am guessing the park construction is the culprit, and once that is completed they will return.

Go through 311, that way you also get a tracking number and can follow up and make your case.

A peek inside Masada?

Was walking by the always-almost-about-to-open Masada today, and caught a peek inside....

  • I'm not particularly interested in how fabulous the decor would be. And yes I agree Scott the front has been an eyesore for years. What counts for me in a restaurant is how good is the food?… bells and whistles are not necessary in an environment where food should be the forte.

  • Jon

I understand and respect how they are financing this, but after 6+ years of build up, I've lost interest. Maybe my kids can enjoy it someday. I guess all I was hoping for is to not travel so far for Sultan's Market, but when i hear 'tapas' style, I'm assuming it won't be like that.

The interior is big, and it looks great. I was impressed with the level of detail of every aspect. Shadi and his mother, who was also there, were very polite. They allowed me to take a few pics inside, including a menu written out on a dry erase board.

The place looks great, and just about ready to open. Even the kitchen was set up. The menu looked pretty great also. I'll post a few pics here for you guys to check out.

OK, I'll admit that the warmer weather got me thinking 'gardening' mode... I had to 'make and take' a red wiggler bin to get full credit for Master Composter degree and the winter had them 'especially happy' in the basement so I have two huge bins ready to share. You need a plastic tub with lid that has 1/4 inch holes punched in top for air and then we tear up newspaper, throw in a little garden dirt, wet so it is like a 'rung out sponge', and put in the worms. They eat 'left over' lettuce, coffee grounds, etc (except onions, peppers, citrus). Easy VERY EASY to care for in basement or garage (some people keep them under the sink..no smell)
This is the best 'soil' you will find and excellent for seedlings. You separate the worms from the 'soil' (I can tell you how) and use the soil in your garden, house plants, etc. YOU MUST NOT put the worms in composters or soil outside as they are not native and they eat constantly and will eat all the surface plants.
If you are interested, please let me know and it will be another reason for spring to come quickly!@

  • I'd love a second chance. I'll send you a,message Wednesday or Thursday when I have a better idea of my schedule.

Logan Theater and TIF Money?

Did anyone read the health inspection about the restaurant on 2900 W. Armitage? It is nice to read about new places. This was a new one for me.

  • True, kslatte, I shouldn't prejudge. Looking forward to seeing what they have to offer. If anyone hasn't been to Table Donkey Stick down the street, I would highly recommend it. On Monday nights, they have a special $5 menu to let you sample some of their great flavors. And they just rehabbed the front to include a very cool bar space. Excellent on a winter night like tonight (ok...just feels like winter)

  • Saw they spent some time over the weekend painting the brick facade...and they've added some wood framed new windows along the front.

City of Chicago/Integrys Electric Aggregation Program- Opt Out: Y or N?

Hit and Run on Logan Blvd and Sacramento?

At about 10:20 tonight, I heard a car screech to a halt and someone screaming. When I ran to see what had happened, I saw an injured man being loaded into an SUV which proceeded to speed off south on Sacramento. Several police cars followed. Anyone know what happened?

  • Hayek Not FDIC Insured | May lose value

I'm confused... that doesn't sound like a hit and run at all.

It's either the driver who hit the man doing the right thing and rendering assistance (depending on the injury) or a kidnapping, Bourne Ultimatum style.

  • Right. It didn't appear that the person loading the victim into the SUV was trying to render assistance. It appeared that his main interest was trying to leave the scene with the victim ASAP. My husband believed it was a kidnapping, but it didn't appear that way to me, either. It was bizarre and unsettling, which is why I'm wondering if anyone out there can fill in the gaps.

Nick had to fight them off alone while the owners watched.

After the initial attack, one of the dogs managed to get loose a second time.

One pit bull was white female, about 80 pounds, hanging teats, recently had a litter; the second, sex uncertain, white with brown and black spots on her back, with some kind of doggie backpack. Owners were two white males, heavyset, scruffy goatees, very short hair, balding, in late 20's to mid 30's.

We plan on attending next CAPS meeting about this, but wanted neighbors to be on the lookout.

  • @alias_b: So you think saying that a person should get an RLC ticket for running a red is just like wanting to police a concentration camp. Good to know your perspective.

I definitely suggest watching the video if you get one of these tickets. I got one of these and was thoroughly outraged, until I reviewed the video and realized that what I assumed would be my triumphant vindication via footage showing me cautiously stopping and then making a right turn...

I definitely suggest watching the video if you get one of these tickets. I got one of these and was thoroughly outraged, until I reviewed the video and realized that what I assumed would be my triumphant vindication via footage showing me cautiously stopping and then making a right turn on red, was mostly in my head. These cameras have unquestionably made *some* intersections safer. whether the contract was awarded fairly/competently and issues of which intersections are appropriately are separate issues. If I had my way I'd ticket everyone who so much as blows through a stop sign, and it would have everything to do with quality of life and nothing to do with revenue. But, police, cameras, street lane and crosswalk striping, etc all cost money. When I was learning how to drive in the late 80s there were cops ticketing for traffic violations on a regular basis, several decades of police department staffing cuts have really taken a toll on basic civility on the street IMO.

Tuckpointing need for 1906 built 2-flat building

I went back in the archives (2011/2012?) and there was just a thread in March, but in reading it I think my 2-flat needs more work then that. Recommendations please? (Thanks!)

  • I love Marion restoration. They've worked on my 100 year old home's brick...and do a wonderful job.

  • I found a good guy who did ours for a fair price. He's going to be coming back to our block to do more in a week. pm me for details

  • DL Police officer

Lupo Masonry is highly recommended. They are from the area and have been in business since 1951. They do a lot of work in the area and are very professional 773 501 6930

Cheap hat source?

Hey all,
I'm in dire need of a cheap, black fedora -- any condition or quality -- by tomorrow. Is this something that can be found in the neighborhood? Maybe the thrift stores? Mega Mall? Any of those shops up on Milwaukee north of the square?

I'd prefer not to spend a lot, as this is just for a blues brothers thing.

Any tips would be great!

  • Target has them, and cheap.

  • Albany Bark Mel give 'em Hell!

You can get cheap hot sauce at Tony's, Franks starts at $1 and is great on pizza.

Help! Who keeps copies of their Redeye

So I found an article in Wednesday's Redeye about reselling some items but of course it went in the recycle bin and is GONE. I was wondering if someone still has their copy and can find the article. I went on their site but of course could not find what I was looking for UGH. Thanks so much
